Short story
Once
upon a time in the city of Chicago lived Omar Hernandez. Omar was a very smart
kid for kid his age, in the 5 grade he would win a spelling bees and all math
contest. He lived a very happy life….in school. Omar’s parents were divorced
and he lived with his mom because she said she didn’t want his father to see
him anymore. His mom was a woman who loved drinking. His father was an
electrician and had his own company. He surely got his smart genes from his
father not his mother. Anyways at home it was terrible, his mother would always
yell at him and whenever he asked her for money for school she would say no,
even when he needed a haircut she would say no. One day at school Mr. Robertson
asked for some supplies the students would need for his class and if they
didn’t get them they would fail the class. Omar didn’t seem worried because in
his mind he knew that his mom wouldn’t give him the money so there was only one
other choice and it wasn’t his dad. He would need to steal them! Omar was
making this a habit. It was his 4th time stealing. As he walked into
Walgreens wearing his old ripped vans because he couldn’t afford any others, he
was nervous. He had never been caught before but he knew that if he did nobody
would care not his mom or his dad. As he walks he stares closely at all the
cashiers to check if they were eyeballing him. The coast was clear… He walked
around for quite a while and just stood in front of the supplies. As he bent
over to reach for them, a worker asked him if he needed help. He was panicking
on the inside. He quickly Replied “No….I’m fine….thanks.” As the worker left he
quickly put the supplies in his pocket, he walked around for another good while
to not make it suspicious but he took to long….As he’s about to walk out the door
he feels a hand laid upon his shoulder. He didn’t want to turn around because
he knew it was a worker. He hears a voice saying “Why Omar? Why?” As he turns
around in shame he notices it’s his father. His father tells him that he didn’t
recognize him with that long hair he had. Omar sheds into tears because he
couldn’t stand seeing his father crying for something he had done. His father
asked him why was he stealing, and Omar replied stuttering “because…..my
mom…didn’t. Want...to give me. Money.” Omars father told him that he should’ve
asked him for money that he would’ve gave him for his supplies. Omar explained
that his mother took away all contact info from him to his father so they
wouldn’t be able to communicate. His father said “You’re not going to live with
your mother anymore! I’m going to open up a court case so that you can come
home with me not that crazy woman!” Omars father went to pay for the supplies
and they left. He took Omar back to his mother but told him not to mention a
word of what they talked about. As the court date came Omar was happy and happier.
On the day of the court Omar was in school but in school he got a notification
that when he comes out to go directly to the main office and not anywhere else,
because his father would be waiting there for him.So then Omar and his father
moved far away from his mother so she wouldn’t find him ever again and Omar was
so very happy with his father. The End
