Neosoul music is a fairly recent evolution in the music industry? It was created in response to the intense messages and imagery created by the gangster rap explosion of the late 1980’s and early 1990’s. While gangster rap was a proponent of violent messages and telling it like it is, Neosoul was a throwback to the earlier days of music in which a more idealistic and gentler nature that encourages positivity and advocates love. It’s almost like the hippie movement/ love movement of the 1960’s with more focus on responsibility, helping others, and overall being a better person. Although there are many artists some of the most notable are: Jill Scott, Erykah Badu, and Musiq. Fora sample listen here.
