The photo was taken in 1972 at the Medium-Security Federal Correctional Institution in Ashland, Kentucky. He was twenty-one years old and been locked up for a year already the bleakest year of his life and he more time ahead of him. At the time this picture was taken he weighted 125 pounds his fear being a target of irrational violence haunted he day and night. The constant tempo of that violence pulsed throughout his body and made hem feel small, and week and cowardly.The he with to jail for selling hash, he add 5,700 in cash. He said a 5010b is a youth sentence. It means you can do anywhere from sixty days to six years .He said he want to go to school, with a writing program but he don't have any writing. He find a school in New York graham junior college. It was a two-year school with a focus on communication arts. He sent away for an application he was accepted. December 18th he was stunned. Nearly fifteen mouth after his first night at west street he would be released. He have a place an everything. And a job selling christmas trees until he could find a steady job after the holiay casey called in the information to the parloe board, his release was approved and he walked . I was thinking that is was go to be in jail for the rest of his life. I wouldn’t never get out. He was about to get six years. I’m happy he got out.
