"Hole In My Life" Essay:
My favorite scene in the book
My favorite scene in the book
When I first started reading the book, “Hole In My Life”, I found the book a bit boring. However, as I got into it a bit more, I got pulled in by the story of Jack Gantos. This book is about an unfortunate young man by the name of Jack Gantos, who tried to do right in his life, but ended up being led astray, which refers to how a single decision can make everything go downhill in mere moments. This is what was so entertaining about the book. I have three scenes, so far, that I could call my favorites. I am picking just one for this essay, however.
When Gantos mentions the class assembly, I had wanted to stop reading at this point, but I kept reading in order to see what the assembly would be about. There are just some certain things the reader would want to know if they read this book, and for me it was what happened at the assembly. Gantos and his class take their seats as the assembly starts. Real prisoners are introduced to the class, and the assembly turns into an informative piece that is supposed to act as prevention for something going wrong in the life of the students.
We have Jack Gantos, and as this assembly goes on, the reader can clearly see that he isn’t taking the assembly seriously. The reason why this chapter is so important, however, is because it acts as an ironic part of the book. Gantos is so certain that absolutely nothing will go wrong within his life, but little does he know that one decision that he makes in his life will lead to another bad decision, which will also lead to what could’ve been his final destination in life and the reason for him writing the book
“Hole In My Life”.
The reason why I picked this particular scene in the book was because it stood out as the most intriguing to me. I, as the reader, knew what would happen to Jack Gantos already. I already had an inside look into his life. This scene in the book made me think, about how little we know about what our future holds. This is the part of the book, so far, that I find the most interesting.
