PARDONER ANALYZE

In today’s world there are many moral dilemmas that were present in the story of the pardoner. The story was written for the sole purpose of showing people that “money is the root of all evil”. He spoke of lies, scamming, death, and greediness. Throughout his life he has dealt with those topics because he has scammed people for money and is not afraid to admit it. His story is about death and money.
The pardoner takes his time starting with his story even though he knows that story by memory because it is one of the stories that has brought him plenty of money. He prepares his sermons by always stating that “money is the root of all evil” and tries to prove that through his story. After a sermon the pardoner is ready to tell his famous story which he really does not even have to think about.
The story began in a bar with three men talking about how death has killed their friends and they would like to kill death themselves once they find it. The men are drunks, scammers, and gamblers. The pardoner and most people know that in a religion the charactericts of the men are wrong. Yet he knows that he is the same way as them he is confused about what he should be doing in life. The men are told where they could find death by an old man so they follow his word.
The men arrive at the destination and find gold everywhere. The evil begins to show in them. The pardoner is beginning to show the quote by which he lives by “money is the root of all evil”. One of the men plans to kill the other two by poisoning them with wine and rat poison. The other two plan to kill the man and keep the loot to themselves. Yet in the end all three of the men die; they were looking for death and founded through greediness.
In today’s world people would still kill for money. Good examples are wars, bank robberies or breaking into people’s house. It seems if there are promises in life they can easily be broken through money. The pardoner talks about himself in the story yet his actions in life will not change. People that live for money will die for money.
