The Miller's Tale

The Miller told the story of a student who's name was Nicholas, who persuaded his landlord's young wife, Alisoun, to spend the night with him. He persuades his landlord, John, that the 2nd flood is coming, and tricks him into spending the night in a tub hanging loose from the ceiling of his barn. Absolon, a young parish clerk who is also in love with Alisoun, is now outside the window of the room where Nicholas and Alisoun were lieing together. When Absolon begs Alisoun for a kiss, she sticks her rear end out the window in the dark and lets him kiss it. Absolon runs and gets a red-hot poker, returns to the window, and asks for another kiss. and when Nicholas puts his bottom out the window and farts Absolon had branded him on his booty. Nicholas's cries for water make the carpenter think that the flood has come, so the carpenter cuts the rope connecting his tub to the ceiling, falls down, and breaks his arm.

Essay Topics: Character sketch

In this essay i'm going to descibe the "Miller" of the "Canterbury Tales", how he impacted the other characters; how his story described what type of person he was, and the way he was descibed and how he was portrayed in the movie and book.
During the journey to Canterbury the characters had each took turns telling there stories to occupy time until they had finally arrived to there destination. As each character had begun to tell there stories one after another, it was the priest turn to tell his story when he was rudely interrupted by the "Miller".
The "Miller" was looked upon as a rude drunk, and a very barbaric man. A man who seemed to want his way with woman but could never have them because of his behavior. The Miller seemed to be a man who didnt learn much literately but knew things by sight or knew things when handled phycically. His pyhsical features also supported his barbaric ways. The "Miller" was a large man who was very physical with things. He was also made to seem as if he was strong and didn't need help when he was lifting or pushing things that exceeded his size.
The "Miller" had impacted the other characters in a way that he tested their patitence; for example when he interuppted the priest to tell his story, which made the "Miller" seem as if he was up front and vegue when it came to his drunken sexual stories. Stories of adultrey and affairs which maybe offended the Nun and Narrator.

The Miller's Tale

The Miller's Tale is of a student Nicholas who persuades his jealous old landlord's much younger wife Alison to spend the night with him. They plan a way to have sex by duping John, the landlord, through an elaborate scheme in which Nicholas convinces him that he has found, through his astrology, that a flood of biblical proportions is imminent. Their safety depends, says Nicholas, on waiting overnight in separate tubs suspended from the rafters, and to cut their tubs from the roof when the water has risen. He adds that if the landlord tells anyone else people will think he is mad (although he says this to make sure that no man tells the landlord to see sense in the matter). This comic prank allows Nicholas and Alison the opportunity to sneak down, after the landlord falls asleep, and make love.

the miller

The Host was telling the Monk to continue the next tale, that’s when the drunken Miller said that his tale should be the next tale to be told. He told the story of an impoverished student who's name was Nicholas, who persuaded his landlord's young wife, Alisoun, to spend the night with him. He convinces his landlord, a carpenter named John, that the 2nd flood is coming, and tricks him into spending the night in a tub hanging loose from the ceiling of his barn. Absolon, a young parish clerk who is also in love with Alisoun, appears outside the window of the room where Nicholas and Alisoun lie together. When Absolon begs Alisoun for a kiss, she sticks her rear end out the window in the dark and lets him kiss it. Absolon runs and gets a red-hot poker, returns to the window, and asks for another kiss; when Nicholas puts his bottom out the window and farts, Absolon brands him on the buttocks. Nicholas's cries for water make the carpenter think that the flood has come, so the carpenter cuts the rope connecting his tub to the ceiling, falls down, and dislocates his arm.

Love & Marriage

The Merchant's tale seemed more interesting. He was the one that was talking about this old guy who married this girl because he really loved her. Then as time passed by she cheated on him with another guy while he was blind. The god of war was helping out the blind man and the god of love was helping out the girl who was being unfaithful to her husband. Another tale where they talk about love and marriage was the knight tales. He talks about a 2 men who fall in love with this girl. Both of them are trying to get with her. One worships the god of war, the girl worships the goddess of love, and the other knight worships the god of Jupiter. They all fight

The Pardoners Tale

The Canterbury Tell was good, but my most favorite out of all the tales would have to be the Pardoners Tale. that tale was the most interesting to me for the most part. i enjoyed reading that tale.this tale was mostly about a group of ypoung people, who had always spent their time drinking, and reveling. and after commenting on their lives, Pardoners that is life style of debauchery, the Pardoner enter into a tirade against themselves they practice. gluttony was identified as the sin that first caused the fal of mankind in eden. as they used to drink, they would also be gambling, which would cause the men to seem very mad and witless as they would say in other words angry or weak. gambling would cause the men to lose wealth and and men of power.
The Pardoner was like kind of wrong, becuase he told people that he preaches solely, he admitted that to them, but he only does that to get money which is wrong he doesnt do that to correct sin either. he was arguing that many sermons are are evil intentions. by the pardoner preaching, he could get revenge back from anyone who had offended him or his brethren. the pardoner always preaches about covetousness, the vice that he is gripped by. the pardoners one and only interest is to fill his pockets. The Pardoner was the type of person who would rather take the last of anything from a widow and her starving family than to give up his own money to someone.
The pardoner accuses his self of fraud, avarice, and gluttony, the very things that he preaches. it would be possible to argue that the pardoner sacrifices his own spiritual goods to cure the sins of others. but the pardoner doesnt really consider his spiritual corruption a real sacrifice, since he loves the money and the conforts it brings him.
this tale mainly shows the disastrous effects of greed.

Compare and Contrast The Miller and Merchant's tales

The Miller's tale was about an old man man that was a Reeve. The reeves and the millers did not get alone very well
I learned that the person i had didnt like the miller because they slep with his wife. But they never like each other because the reeve used to steal from there farm
this story of love and marriage is developed through a few tales in the tale many people show expressions of love and marriage in one tale it shows how a couple was despreatley in love and got married but all a while the lady expressed a theme of love to another person even though he expressed it back the theme of love and expression is showed as serious feelings. But she couldnt mess with any other man because she gave her whole life to that man and she told him she wouldnt leave him. Then when she started to have an affair he made her go and stay with thaty man that she started to see. Then it was another story but this was a old cat he was blind and the young girl he was with started to see another person to but he didnt know because he was blind. But when he got his eye site back he seen what was going on. So that go to show no matter who or what year it is people will still cheat on you no matter what time or year it is.

the pardoners tale

The Host reacts to the Physician's Tale, which has just been told. He is shocked at the death of the young Roman girl in the tale, and mourns the fact that her beauty ultimately caused the chain of events that led her father to kill her. Wanting to cheer up, the Host asks the Pardoner to tell the group a merrier, farcical tale. The Pardoner agrees, but will continue only after he has food and drink in his stomach. Other pilgrims interject that they would prefer to hear a moral story, and the Pardoner again agrees.
After getting a drink, the Pardoner begins his Prologue. He tells the company about his occupation—a combination of itinerant preaching and selling promises of salvation. His sermon topic always remains the same: Radix malorum est Cupiditas, or “greed is the root of all evil.” He gives a similar sermon to every congregation and then breaks out his bag of “relics”—which, he readily admits to the listening pilgrims, are fake. He will take a sheep's bone and claim it has miraculous healing powers for all kinds of ailments. The parishioners always believe him and make their offerings to the relics, which the Pardoner quickly pockets.
The Pardoner admits that he preaches solely to get money, not to correct sin. He argues that many sermons are the product of evil intentions. By preaching, the Pardoner can get back at anyone who has offended him or his brethren. In his sermon, he always preaches about covetousness, the very vice that he himself is gripped by. His one and only interest is to fill his ever-deepening pockets. He would rather take the last penny from a widow and her starving family than give up his money, and the good cheeses, breads, and wines that such income brings him. Speaking of alcohol, he notes, he has now finished his drink of “corny ale” and is ready to begin his tale.
The Pardoner describes a group of young Flemish people who spend their time drinking and reveling, indulging in all forms of excess. After commenting on their lifestyle of debauchery, the Pardoner enters into a tirade against the vices that they practice. First and foremost is gluttony, which he identifies as the sin that first caused the fall of mankind in Eden. Next, he attacks drunkenness, which makes a man seem mad and witless. Next is gambling, the temptation that ruins men of power and wealth. Finally, he denounces swearing. He argues that it so offends God that he forbade swearing in the Second Commandment—placing it higher up on the list than homicide. After almost two hundred lines of sermonizing, the Pardoner finally returns to his story of the lecherous Flemish youngsters.
The conclusion is that they are so greedy that when one of the 3 men put some type of drink that no one can can drink down in a wine bottle. So while he was at the bar the other 2 men was planning to kill him and take all the gold for theirselve. So when he got back as soon as he put the drink down they start stabbing him and he dies and then the 2 men take a drink and they start choking and thought they was going to keep the gold. So in the end it didnt even matter because no one got it and no one got the gold. So the mural of this story is that some people will do anything for gold just to have it all and dont be greedy.

the knight's tales

there are different themes of love in the tales. one thing that the tales have in comment is that most of them have the theme of love at first sighted. when ever the characters meted they felled in love automatically. they also did crazy stuff for love. which i don't understand because the most they knew about the other person was the name at most. and they did unbelievable. like in the knights tale were the two prisoner felled in love with the princess. they were so in loved with her that they when to war with each other to prove who loves her more. its just show how badly they foll in love and what there wilin to do for love

choose 2 or more tales and analyzed what they reveal about how they saw women

Women were seen as trophies backed then men thought that they could win a women just by beating and killing men to win a woman.Woman were mostly seen as nothing but trophes .Men did not know what woman wanted they only cared about themselves.the cantebary tales has lots of examples how men saw woman as nothing and they also show how women felt and what they wanted for a men to do.

The knight tale was about a man that saw a women name Emily and fell in love with her. Then his friend fell in love with her when he first saw her. The two men were fighting for her and one of the men were sent away he came back and found the man trying to get Emily and they decided that tomorrow they had to come armed so they could fight for Emily. The next day they foughted and a man saw they and told them that this is not the places to fight.the man took them to this places where their were alot of men fighting to survive to marry emily.Another example of how women women where seen as just nothings is the franklines tale.

In the franklines tale was about a woman that got married to a knight and the knight went to war and the wife was waioting for her husband to return. One day she went out with her friends trying to distract herself she meet a man that was full of sorrow because he had not found some to love him and the wife told him about how the knight went to war a missed him the man told her that she should leave with him so they wont be fill with sorrow. The wife told him she would leave with him if all the rocks would sink to the bottom of the sea . so the man went to the philosopher and gave him money to make all the rocks sink to the bottom of the sea.when he return the women did not wanted to marry him and the knight told her that she has to keep her promies so he sent her to the men athe man did not wanted her to be with him because he felt soo

The Miller & The Wife Of Baths Tale

The Host told the Monk to tell the next tale, that’s when the drunken Miller said that his tale should be the next tale to be told. He told the story of an impoverished student named Nicholas, that persuades his landlord's sexy young wife, Alisoun, to spend the night with him. He told his landlord, a carpenter named John, that the second flood is coming, and tricks him into spending the night in a tub hanging from the ceiling of his barn. When Absolon begs Alisoun for a kiss, she sticks her rear end out the window in the dark and lets him kiss it. Absolon runs and gets a red-hot poker, returns to the window, and asks for another kiss; when Nicholas sticks his bottom out the window and farts, Absolon brands him on the butt. Nicholas's cries for water make the carpenter think that the flood has come, so the carpenter cuts the rope connecting his tub to the ceiling, falls down, and breaks his arm. Notes: " From Sparknotes"
This story is diffrent form the wife bath because in the story the qeen asked the soldier to find out what a women seeks in for a man. So He goes out and find out so he can come back and give his awnser to the qeen. In the story he goes looking for women and asks them what they seek for in a man.

Compaer and Contrast (Merchant & Knight)

The whole theme of the Canterbury tales is intriguing. The theme mostly consist of betrayal, deceit and hatred towards one another. But in particular to the story, the Merchant and miller focus on love and how it can make thy blind, both literally and figuratively. The Merchant tells a tale of an old knight from Lombardy who had'nt been married yet. But when the knight had turned sixty, he decided to finally be married. He searched for wives, now convinced that being married was a paradise . Yet his brother, advised of the scholar Theophrastus, who advised men never to wed, for servants show more diligence and do not claim nearly as much. To this the knight retorted with Biblical stories that state a man without a wife is bent on ruin. These stories cites the creation of Eve for Adam as proof that a wife is man's support, as well as examples of humble and devoted wives. January, wished to have a young wife of no older than thirty, for a young wife would be more pliable, but Placebo warned him that it takes great courage for such an aged man to take a young wife. He warned him of the misery that can come from taking a wife, for she could be shrewish or a drunkard, facts that a husband will not learn until well into the marriage. Despite the common opinion that Placebo has a wonderful wife, he knows what faults she has. They argue about the merits of marriage, with Placebo predicting that January will not please his wife for more than three years, but Placebo eventually assents to January's plan. January finally decided to take a young and pretty wife, foolishly believing that nobody would find fault with his choice. He spoke to Placebo and his friends about his choice, praising his intended wife. January, however, worries that a man who finds perfect happiness on earth as he would with his wife would never find a similar happiness in heaven, for one must choose between one perfect happiness and another. Justin countered by stating that it is more likely that married men will get to heaven than single men. He muses that marriage might be January's purgatory. Now the Knight,The Knight tells a tale of courtship and chivalry, focused on the deeds of soldiers and princes, the social milieu in which the Knight travels. Even the structure of the tale obeys the structure and hierarchy within society. The Knight does not start with the main characters of the tale, Artimus and Palamon; instead, he begins at the apex of society, describing the exploits of Theseus of Athens, working downward until he reaches the less distinguished Than soldiers. Now the similarities that i find are that, they both thought that love was a grand thing and believed that every man should have a wife, but were later on proven wrong. But the difference is that, The Merchant grew lonesome and hatred toward the idea of love and didn't think being married was worth anytime at all, and that their better off alone.

William Lyles

The knights’ tale is an interesting tale that talks about Palamon and Arsite. They went to great links to get this girl. One way they loved her is by gathering and army. Another way is by praying to the gods. The final way is by having a fight to the death.

The first way they fought for the love of Emily is by gathering and army. They had to take this army to the stadium to prove to the king his love for his daughter. What ever armies win wins her heart.

The second way they showed their love to the Emelye is by praying to the gods of war and love to grant them victory, because Palmon was favored by the god of war and Arsite was favored by the god of love.

The final way they showed their love to Enelye is a fight to the Death the King said who ever wins the battle to the death will win his daughters heart.
The moral of this story is love will have you do some crazy things and you should never fight over a female because friends last forever

The Miller and Merchant Tale

In the merchant’s tale it was more a comedy tale and the merchant’s tale was a tale about the search for love. The merchant’s tale was a tale of romance. It told of an elderly guy in his 60's deciding to look for love.

He wanted to marry a young woman that is a maiden of the city. In his mind in felt that in life men and women should get married and someday he would like a child to inherit his riches. January’s wish came true when he married women named May. Somehow January wanted to make sure this was the person he was suppose to be with. The miller’s tale is a more comedy tale that is sure to deliver a laugh. Two individuals were having a secret affair and they had been having this for some time. Finally one day when they snuck down in the basement and they thought no one would know. Apparently the suppose it lover knew and wanted to hear from his wife. So e asked for a kiss but instead it was the buttocks to play a play on her suppose it lover. The very final time he got a huge fart in his face. Both tale are made to have there different roles and morals to that of the reader’s. The merchant and the miller are after the same prize.
Once again the prize is to have extra privileges of getting the dinner paid for. Both tales are about the same time and at times involve the people of the village.I enjoyed both the merchant tale and miller’s tale.

Reeve's Tales

The miller’s tale connects too many part of the tale in the Canterbury tales, but the prologue of the Reeve’s tale is mixed with the prologues of the miller’s tale. The story of the reeve’s tale is about this miller name Simon and the two students that decide to take revenge on the miller.
There was these brook where stands a mill, who was a miler that lived there once and his name was Simon but people he knew by his nickname Symkyn. This man is the tape man that was ostentatious clothing and could play the bagpipe, wrestle and fish. His face was round and had flatted nose and all ways carry knife with him. His wife came from noble family. Symkyn was a jealous man and his wife was self-important, they had twenty-year-old daughter name Molly.
Symkyn cheated the college worst of and he stole meal and corn from the dying steward of Cambridge. There were two students that attend the same college, as Symkyn their name was John and Aleyn. Those two students all ways ask permission from the provost to see the corn ground at the mill, on like Symkyn: he just likes to steal things without permission. Aleyn tells Symkyn that he is there to ground the corn and brings it back to their self since the sick steward cannot. While they ground the corn, Symkyn found that John and Aleyn horse was on toad. When Aleyn and John were gone the miller took part of their flour and told his wife to knead it into dough. Then Aleyn and John returned to find their meal but it was gone, since it was knight the miller offers Aleyn and John to sleep over in his house. During the night John felt humiliated that he was sleeping while Aleyn having sex with the daughter molly. In the morning molly told Aleyn where he could find the bread that she helped her father steal. Aleyn want to tell John of his idea how to steal the bread but Symkyn hears about what had happened between Aleyn and molly. So he grabs Aleyn neck and Aleyn get mad and start fighting to Symkyn.

The Reeve’s tale is a common comic tale intentional to humiliate the miller. The Reeve pursues on clear dispute in history, which the Arthur indicates in the story’s prologues. Symkyn was the central character of the tale. Symkyn was the miller who has a sense of incredible pride with regards to his highborn wife. Symkyn’s wife and daughter are subject to intense. But the Reeve descripts the daughter as “thick” and “round”. The primarily purpose of story was to humiliated the miller Symkyn.

The Reeve's tale was compassion toward its characters. The formal heroes of the tale, Aleyn and John, were more compassionate than Symkyn and his family. Although they are students they come from the more rustic northern area of England. When they seduce the miller's wife and daughter, they do so merely out of opportunity and jealousy. The two students in the Miller's Tale and which might make the characters made more compassionate. In the end, most of the characters in the tale suffer some injury, but most of them were on the tale miller. Over all the story of Reeve was discretion of Symkyn and the two students.

Miler& Merchants
Tale

The Miller’s tale and merchants tale were both unique in there own way. They were very different almost so different that you could barely compare them to each other. In the merchant’s tale it was more a comedy tale and the merchant’s tale was a tale and search for love. For sure a tale that has come out of the same story for the same prize they were after of who could tell the best tale.

The merchant’s tale was a tale of romance it told of an elderly guy in his sixties deciding to look for love. He wanted to marry a young woman that is a maiden of the city. I enjoyed both the merchant tale and miller’s tale. It was a good idea for them to share and extend the story for the reader’s I would suggest any change in the story because both was great. The tale of the 90 year old women was my favorite because it really made me laugh the hardest!!!

The Mechant Tale- Dustin A.

My Favorite Character- Dorigene

In the novel The Canterbury Tales consist of many different tales of people who encounter issues of trust, sacrifice, love, and friendship. My group and I had told the story of the Franklin's tales. My favorite character is Dorigene. Dorigene in the Franklin's tale battled with her decisions for the love of her husband.
The Franklin's tale is about a married woman who sacrifices herself to a man who supposedly is able to move rocks away from a sea in order for husband to return safely back home. Dorigene battles the decision to have an affair with a man who is able to help her. Her husband, Arveragus went away to Britain for 2 years. Back home, Dorigene has an admirer named Aurelius. Aurelius wants to help Dorigene but only if she has a relationship with him.
When Arveragus returns home, Dorigene was reluctant to let her husband know that fro him to come back home safe she had to have an affair while she was away.
Dorigene is my favorite character because of the fact that what she went through happens in real life, where women who love their mate will do anything for them, even have an affair. Its unfortunate that happens but its the issue of trust and love you have to deal with in your mind while doing something you wouldn't normally.
I have dealt with with an issue kind of like that but of the young people, because I'm only 16. Trust its hard to have altumatems, its very difficult but as you mature you will know whats worth you.

The tale of the merchants

A group went on a trip to canterbury to past the time by quiker the host started a storytelling competition to see who could tell the best story, the winner would get a grand feast when they got to their destination
The merchant’s tale was a story of a love between January, May and Damian. It is also an instance of an old man being hoodwinked by a young woman. It is about how men should not marry women unless they can satisfy their lady. It proves that women can and will find a man who can satisfy her if she isn’t being satisfied. The tale also shows the Merchants bad experience with marriage and shows he has been deceived by a young woman since he was speaking from knowledge. It also shows how women are sneaky and they have the upper hand in marriage even though the man doesn’t know it.
The Merchants tale began with an old knight. The Knight was a 60 year old man, named January, who decided it was time to settle down and get married. He believed it was the will of God for men and women to get married and have a son to inherit his father’s wealth. January decided to marry a young lady named May. Before he decided to ask for her hand in marriage he talked about it with his friends. One of is friends named Justinius said he should not marry May. January decided to marry her anyway. After the priest blessed their marriage bed they consummated their marriage. They had a servant by the name of Damian who was in love with May. Damian became sick. January sent May to see about him and while she was there he slipped her a love note. All of a sudden January became blind and was very over protective over his wife. He demanded she be by his side at all time. May and Damian would arrange special meetings in the garden and go in the pear tree and have sex. Pluto was angry at May’s deceit and granted January with his sight again. With his sight back January saw his wife and Damien in the pear tree. Pluto’s wife Proserpina says men are lecherous and provided May with an excuse which was he was just seeing things. He believed his wife and that was the end of the Merchant’s Tale.
The merchant’s tale is told by a merchant in the group of people going to Canterbury. The merchant was a married to a shrew. His wife treated him like garbage. He would tell everyone of his wife’s horrible cruelty. He believed that all men who are married are doomed to live in sorrow and misfortune. His tale was told according to his own knowledge. The Host asked him to tell the story because he believed the merchant was knowledgeable in the art of marriage.
Geoffrey Chaucer used the Merchants tale told by the merchant to talk about love triangles. One thing was the name January symbolized an old man. May symbolized young woman He symbolized winter against spring using January and May. The moral to of the tale is men don’t go after a woman unless you can satisfy her because she will find a man who can.

Love through Cantaberytales.

Through all the stories that were told by the residents of Cantabery the majority of the story had to do with love or so called love. The characters told stories about love but from different points of views. Some stories had to do with people cheating on there mates. Others had to do with relatives fighting for the love of a single person. There were even stories about somebody dying because of something that a love one told him. love was the main topic through all tales.

One story that was told had to do with the betrayal of a love one. There was a woman that was married to an older man but had feelings for someone else. One day the husband of the woman lost his sight when one of the gods took it away from him. without his sight he could not see what was going on and the woman knew. Altought the woman was tied to the husband she manage to get loose with his permission. What the husband didnt know was that she snuck the other man the key she had feelings for earlier. While in the garden she climbed the tree and got all freaky with the other guy. The god suddenly decided he wanted to see a show so he gave the husband his sight back. The husband seen what was going on but even though he seen it with his own eyes, he was still stupid enough to believe her two faced lie. This love story had to do with the lack of loyalty.

Another story had to do with two cousins who physically fought for the love of one woman. The two cousins were locked in a tower after being captured. One day one of the men looked out the window and caught sight of a beautiful young woman and autimatically fell in love. He showed the other guy and he also fell in love. One day one of the guys were set free but had to stay far away from were the girl was. The other guy was still locked in the tower but was able to view the woman he loved. One day the guy in the tower escaped and ran into the woods where he confronted his friend he was set free but came back for the love one. They began to fight in the woods where they were caught. The king agreed that whoever won was the one who would merry his deaughter. This story was about how love would turn the best of friends against each other.

The next story was about how the words of your love could get you killed. There was a chicken on a farm who was in love with a beautiful female chicken. He started having dreams about a creature with sharp teeth coming after him. Sadly i cant finish this because the bell is about to ring but hopefully I get a descent grade for this because i tried.

What I learned about the Merchant's Tale

The Merchant's Tale was about how marriage brings dreadfulness. Merchant's Tale was about how the Merchant's marriage was terrible. It was fine at first, but it became of sorrow. Instead of telling a story of his life he made up a tale of a knight who got married. The knight had the wrong assumptions.
There was a sixty year old knight named January who decided he wanted to get married. Eventually he met a woman named May. He wanted get a young wife so she could help him around the household. Eventually they got married and every thing was fine.
May was sweet at first, but then January became blind. Then May began to have an affair with January's servant Damian. They wrote love letters to each other. January could not see what was actually happening.
Then one day Damian wanted to woo May so they went into the tree and made love or lust if you will. Soon the gods gave January his sight back and he caught them, but then she fooled him and made up lies about what she did. She said she was fighting off Damian and January believe her. January remained foolish and January and May remained married.
I learned that women may look sweet at first, but they begin to show their true colors. They can be very sneaky and guys can be very sprung so they would not really care or pay attention. Women get away with a lot and marriages could all be based on lies. Marriages is truly sorrow.

Joy Bailey- essay

Throughout Chaucer's tale women were mention. Some women played important roles throughout a tale while some barely mentioned. Due to what the tale was about, effected the role that the woman played. Some tales were entirely about a women, while others never brought a woman up period. Chaucer's tales help analyze te attitude toward women.

In Franlink tale, a woman played a major part. It described how she was willing to dishonor her name in order to save the life of her husband. her name was Doriegn and she was about to have an affair with another man to secure the safety of her hbusband. This revealed how women loved their partners so much that they were willing to do anything to make sure they were okay. Doriegn was about to manipulated having an affair. She must have been very worthy and committed to her husband, for a man to pull a trick like he tried to.

In The Wife of Bath, it told of how a woman was raped by a man. Her role was not asa significant as the woman in Franklin tale. The main characterd was the man who rpped the virgin. He went about the town for many days to answer one question that could save his lfe. The questions was, what do women want from a man. He finally got his answer but was tricked into getting it. An old woman gave him the answer but she wanted something in return. he did not know until he returned to the queen with his answer, which was women want the upper hand. Just what the old women want. She tricked the man into marrying her. This reveals that a woman is very precious and that harming one, nothing positive will happen to you for doing so. He raped the young girl and he was tricked into doing something he did not want.

On the other hand in The Pardoner's tale, women were barely mentioned. This

reeves and wife of baths comparisson

In the Wife of baths tale and the Reeves tale they were not very friendly toward women. The women in those days were treated as unequals, they were treated like they were at the bottom of societies ladder. The men were the leader of the household and the bread winner in the family. The women were house tools. All they were good for is to cook and clean.
In the wife of baths tale the Friars were mean to the women. They treated the women like play toys and they got anything they wanted from them. in this tale they liked to rape women, the Friar is the main one that rapes people. The women were seen as just a sex figure they didn't really care about the women. They just wanted someone to lay with and to satisfy their need for that moment, then after that they will move on to another girl.
In the reeves tale they were actualluy a little nicer to the females. the Woman wasd treated with respect by a nicer male. the male wanted to be her one true love and they wanted to be together but it could not happen. The roles actually reversed when the female was in control of the process if the man having sex with the woman. The man was in love with her and she took advantage of the man, he wanted to kiss her and she leaned out the window and made him kiss her butt. The man wanted revenge so when they did that the third time he took the poker and branded the other mans butt.

compare and contrast Merchants Tale and the Wife of Bath.....

People do alot of crazy things to find love and someone that would stay true and will always be honest. In the novel canterbury Tales, there was alot of love stories and people fighting for other people love. The two stories that i liked the most were the merchant's tale and the wife of bath's tale. I liked these stories the most because the people had to go though a lot of things to find love. One person in the story had love choose for him becuause he was doing the wrong things to women that he met.

the first story is the merchant's tale, In the merchant's tale this older man was looking for a young lady that would make him happy till he is on his death bed. So the man went around the world looking for a pretty lady to make his wife. when he finally found the woman for him , he married her the first chance that he got. as their lifes went on , they were not that happy with each other but it was mainly the lady who was unhappy.

Then there was this young man that worked as a servant for the king that fell in love with the young woman and she fell for him too.so the king had a garden that the two young people met everyday, they also would pass serect love notes to each other the best way they could. So they start falling in love with each other and they wanted to mate with each other. the young lady didn't enjoy mating with her husband because he was much older than she was.the story went bad when the king went blind and had to depend on his wife to take him every thing. So the young lady took the key from the king and gave it to the young man so that he could make a another one and met her in the garden when both her and her husband came into the garden.

So the young man went in to the garden and a little while later he king and his wife came into the garden. so the young woman told her husband to wait by the tree and she would be right back to get him. so the young man and young woman climbed into a tree and started to have sex. then the king could see again and he saw his wife in the tree have sex with the man that worked for him. so the king told the woman to come down and she said that she was doing this for him to make him see once again. so the king forgot about what happened and the young woman and king lived happly ever after.

the second story is about this knight that was going around raping women for the fun of of it. so one day the queen had sended for him. so the queen was talking to him about what he was doing and the way he was doing women was really wrong. so she told him that she didnt like what he was doing and that he had to find out what women really want from women. so the knight travel around a whole bunch of towns asking people what women really want from a man. so after getting a whole lot a different answers from people , he came upon these women having fun with these woods then he went up to them. Little did he know was that there just one magic old woman that he saw. He asked her what did women want from a man and she told him her answer. so the knight went back to the queen and told her his answer. the queen had gave the knight his life but he had to marry the woman that he met in the woods. so he married the old woman as told and them lived happly ever after.

A Sketch of the Miller's Tale

During the Miller's tale, Absoloun's beautiful wife, Alisoun, had an affair with another man named Nicholas. Then Nicholas tricks Absoloun to spend the night at the barn, so he could sleep with Alisoun. Later on, Nicholas farts in Absoloun's face and is burned with a hot poker in his rear end. After a while, Absoloun found out about the affair and Alisoun left him for Nicholas. She threw him out the house and let Nicholas move in with her two weeks later.

Alisoun kept continuing her affair with Nicholas, while still married to Absoloun, the carpenter. Absoloun swore to avenge his wife's inter-marital affair by telling the other carpenters at work. Also, he became really depressed about his separation with his wife. His co-workers knew that he loved his wife so dearly and she didn't even take the time to acknowledge him or even his feelings. Also, she didn't even care about his feelings whatsoever.

A few weeks later, Alisoun and Nicholas got into an argument of their affair and Alisoun complained of how "bored" she was with him. Nicholas asked her if she still loved and cared of Absoloun, she said "Yes, I do." The reason why she said that was because Absoloun provided for her by putting a roof over a head, feeding and clothing her. Then she confessed to Nicholas that he only satisfied her sexually, which made her feel better but couldn't replace the love she had for her husband.

Nicholas later parted ways with Alisoun after she told him the truth; so he moved out of her home and he said "Goodbye, Alisoun." Alisoun realized that she'd been wrong for what she'd done to her husband. So, she went around looking forAbsoloun. She then went to his workplace and asked where he was at. They said "At the barn where he's been staying at for over a month". Later, Alisoun rode a horse to go find her husband.

After riding over 5 miles from the carpentry, Alisoun found her husband feeding the animals outside the barn. She yelled "Absoloun, I'm sorry for what I've done." "Can you please forgive me??" Absoloun looked up and saw his wife apologizing to him. He ran out of the field and told Alisoun how much he loved her. She said "I love you too, my husband." "Nothing shall tear us apart." After that, the couple held hands and went inside the barn, leaving the horse on the fields eating grass.

analyze of wife the bath

The wife and the bath was intersting because it was based on how they would treat women. so the knight would see women that he liked and would admire them and then try to rape them. the knight had to go to court because the person in charge of the city had got tired of him going around treating women in this bad manner. so the lady in charge sent him on a mission to find out what women want in a relationship. so u can already tell from this that women were not treated equal and bascially could get controlled by any man.
So he was sent on this trip and had to find out what a women want in a relationship. so he went out and asked many girls what they want in men and a variety of answers like money, commitment, and ect.it took him almost forever to get an answer. but, many people wouldn't have took this journey to find out what girls like there relationship, many people would rather kill thereselves than do something like that. it will take a real man to accept his duties in this manner and get to the bottom of it.
even if he didn't have no choice to find out about women he still got it done and to me that shows a very strong character to me. many people don't like doing stuff they don't like to do so they might try to run. but the knight knew his jobs and stood where others would have not.

What Malcolm Learned from the Franklin's Tale.

The Franklin's Tale was about love, honesty, and sacrifice. Throughout life eveyone will have to face these three character trais. Sometimes love is feels good but sometimes love can make you give up and lose your mind. Honesty to me is basically the key to respect and maturity; also being honest will make you more of a social person because you'll gain everyone's trust you interact with. Sacrifice is also a trait that can be for the better or the worse. The Franklin's Tale helped me understand more about those traits.
Love has several meanings, even people have their own meaning about it. But the definition I believe in the most is: A feeling of intense desire and attraction toward a person with whom one is disposed to make a pair; the emotion of sex and romance, sexual passion, sexual intercourse, or a love affair. What I've learned from love is basically just love yourself and your family members until you get into your mid 30's because other wise if you start young you'll do nothing but cause stress and drama to yourself and your partner. Love was a big part of the Franklin's Tale because Arvirgus and Dorigen feel in love and Aurelius also declared love for Dorigen. But then Dorigen does something that disrespects her relationship with Arvirgus which causes pain to herself and Arvirgus. So maybe love shouldn't be something important in a relationship because at first you fall so deep into it then things start messing up.
Honesty is more important than love to me and it makes a situation better. Being honest will take you far in life because no one wants to deal with liars; its hard for them to trust you and trust is most important in any kind of relationship. Honesty kind of shapes your personality in a way because you become more mature and straight forward with people, you're basically a real person. In the Franklin's Tale Dorigen was an honest woman because even though she disrespected the relationship she came forward and told Arvirgus of her mistake, which made the situation better because Aurlius let them live happily together and Arvirgus continued to be her husband. Aurelius also was an honest man because he went back and told the illusionist of his act and then he didn't have to pay the illusinist all because he was honest. "The truth shall set you free!"
Sacrifice is something I'm kind of afraid of because I don't want to sacrifice the wrong thing(s). Like I stated before sacrifice can also be for the better or the worse. In the Franklin's Tale Dorigen sacrificed herself in order for her husband to return home safely. She sacrificed herself to Aurelius, she said she would only be his lover if he cleared the sea of the giant rocks that could possibly endanger incoming boats. Aurelius also made a sacrifice with his money because he paid the illusionist just to satisfy his needs but the deal didn't follow all the way threw. If you're going to sacrifice something I think its best for you to have a back-up plan.
The Franklin's Tale was interesting and the moral of the story was pretty clear for the reader to catch. I have learned not to love anyone but yourself and familky members because they're all you got until the end. Honesty will lead you to success and better predicaments. I have learned that in life sacrifices are going to be made some for the better or some for the worse. Life is serious so play your cards right!

the merchants tale

Geoffrey Chaucer author of the Canterbury Tales wrote a tale titled the Merchants Tale. The Host had a competition on the way to Canterbury. The competition was to see who could tell the best story. The winner of this competition would get a grand feast. There was one story that really stuck out and it was the merchants Tale.

The merchant’s tale is told by a merchant in the group of people going to Canterbury. The merchant was a married man. He was married to a shrew. His wife was terrible to him. He would tell everyone of his wife’s horrible cruelty. He believed that all men who are married are doomed to live in sorrow and misfortune. His tale was told according to his own knowledge. The Host asked him to tell the story because he believed the merchant was knowledgeable in the art of marriage.

The Merchants tale began with an old knight. The Knight was a 60 year old lusty man, named January, who decided it was time to settle down and get married. As time passed they continued to sneak each other love notes.

The merchant’s tale was just a story of a love triangle between January, May and Damian. It is also an instance of an old man being hoodwinked by a young woman. It is about how men should not marry women unless they can satisfy them.

In conclusion Geoffrey Chaucer used the Merchants tale told by the merchant to channel in on love triangles. He also used it to symbolize thing. One thing was the name January symbolized an old man. May symbolized young woman He symbolized winter against spring using January and May. Justinius symbolized when good advice is rejected. Lastly the moral to of the tale is men don’t go after a woman unless you can satisfy her because she will find a man who can.

The Themes of Love!!

For the themes of love in the Knights, Wife of Bath, and The Nun Priest, there was several acts of love. Such as Loyalty, Honor, and True love. These are what i seen most that was directed to the Tales. Also they all have different ways of releting to each other in different ways. These different themes will describe the love and marriage is developed.

In the knights tale, is more of a love tale.

Character Sketch: The Fiar

In "The Wife of Bath" Friar is a guy who ruins women life by completely taking advantage of them. He thinks it is right to rape women. He thinks it is right to do that and that is what women wants.

PARDONER ANALYZE

In today’s world there are many moral dilemmas that were present in the story of the pardoner. The story was written for the sole purpose of showing people that “money is the root of all evil”. He spoke of lies, scamming, death, and greediness. Throughout his life he has dealt with those topics because he has scammed people for money and is not afraid to admit it. His story is about death and money.
The pardoner takes his time starting with his story even though he knows that story by memory because it is one of the stories that has brought him plenty of money. He prepares his sermons by always stating that “money is the root of all evil” and tries to prove that through his story. After a sermon the pardoner is ready to tell his famous story which he really does not even have to think about.
The story began in a bar with three men talking about how death has killed their friends and they would like to kill death themselves once they find it. The men are drunks, scammers, and gamblers. The pardoner and most people know that in a religion the charactericts of the men are wrong. Yet he knows that he is the same way as them he is confused about what he should be doing in life. The men are told where they could find death by an old man so they follow his word.
The men arrive at the destination and find gold everywhere. The evil begins to show in them. The pardoner is beginning to show the quote by which he lives by “money is the root of all evil”. One of the men plans to kill the other two by poisoning them with wine and rat poison. The other two plan to kill the man and keep the loot to themselves. Yet in the end all three of the men die; they were looking for death and founded through greediness.
In today’s world people would still kill for money. Good examples are wars, bank robberies or breaking into people’s house. It seems if there are promises in life they can easily be broken through money. The pardoner talks about himself in the story yet his actions in life will not change. People that live for money will die for money.

the different in tales

I believe there were some tales that help reveal how women were treated in the Chaucer’s days and how it helps explain the Canterbury tale better. The two tales I pick is about the miller tale and the wife of berth tale, I pick these two tales, because it helps reveal the way women were treated and was viewed by society.

The wife or berth tale was about a lust knight who was horny and as he was walking through the town, at a river he saw a beautiful woman who he raped and thought he got away with it. Until, the queen ask him to go around to ask every female what everyone woman want and as he went through the town and stop at a forest and saw an illusion with girls playing, then the girls turned out to be really an old woman who knew the answer for the queen answer and when he ask her, she said he must be her when he tells the queen the answer, the answer was women wants to be in control of everything and when he tells the queen , the old woman appears and tell the queen she was the one who told him and he had to marry the old lady, he don’t want to sleep with her in bed, but she uses her illusion and make him sleep with her.

The miller tale was about an Oxford student named Nicholas, who studied astrology and knew the art of love. Nicholas boarded with a wealthy but ignorant old carpenter named John, who was jealous and highly possessive of his sexy eighteen-year-old wife, Alisoun. One day, the carpenter leaves, and Nicholas and Alisoun begin flirting. Nicholas grabs Alisoun, and she threatens to cry for help. He then begins to cry, and after a few sweet words, she agrees to sleep with him when it is safe to do so. She is worried that John will find out, but Nicholas is confident he can outwit the carpenter. Nicholas is not the only one that likes Alisoun. A clerk named Absolon also fancies Alisoun. He serenades her every night, buys her gifts, and gives her money, but to no avail—Alisoun loves Nicholas. Nicholas devises a plan that will allow him and Alisoun to spend an entire night together.

The next Monday, waters twice as great as Noah's flood will cover the land, exterminating all life. john believes him and fears for his wife,. Nicholas instructs John to fasten three tubs, each loaded with provisions and an ax, to the roof of the barn. On Monday night, they will sleep in the tubs, so that when the flood comes, they can release the tubs, hack through the roof, and float until the water subsides. Monday night arrives, and Nicholas, John, and Alisoun ascend by ladder into the hanging tubs. As soon as john begins to snore, Nicholas and Alisoun climb down, run back to the house, and sleep together in the carpenter's bed. Absolon passes by. He hopes for a kiss, or perhaps more, from Alisoun, Absalon sidles up to the window and calls to her. She harshly replies that she loves another. Absolon persists, and Alisoun offers him one quick kiss in the dark. Absolon leaps forward eagerly, offering a lingering kiss. But it is not her lips he finds at the window, but her “naked buttocks”. She and Nicholas laugh aloud; Absolon hurries back into town to the blacksmith and obtains a red-hot iron poker. He returns with it to the window and knocks again, asking for a kiss and promising Alisoun a golden ring. This time, Nicholas, having gotten up to relieve himself anyway, sticks his rear out the window and farts thunderously in Absolon's face. Absolon brands his buttocks with the poker. Nicholas leaps up and cries out “help”. John, still hanging from the roof, wakes up and assumes Nicholas's cries mean that the flood has come. He grabs the ax, cuts free the tub, and come crashing to the ground, breaking his arm.

These two tale show how women were viewed and treated during the Chaucer’s times

The Knights Tale

Eric Quach Essay -

The Knight's tale vs. The Wife of Bath

In the Canterbury tales, the knight tells a tale talking about two prisoners falling in love with the same women, while in the "The Wife of Bath" tale, a man goes in search of what women desire the most. In these two tales there are many differences.

Int he knight's tale, Theseus, finds two enemy warriors while returning some lady's husband's bones. As he found the two warriors, Arcite and Palamon, he took them in, healed them, but he imprisoned them in a tower. Then one day, they look out the window and find a women, which turns out to be Theseus sister in law, Emelye. They then both fall in love with her. Both argue on who should get her, but then soon realized that it would be a hopeless wish because they are imprisoned and wont be able to get out. One day, Arcite was released and Palamon was still stuck in the tower. A while later, Palamon escapes prison and runs off to the woods and finds Palamon. Both argue still on who should get the lady, while arguing Theseus finds them and plans on killing them. Emelye then comes and says to spare their life, Theseus agrees, but decides to to a tournament and whoever wins gets Emelye. Palamon and Arcite both gather their men and fight. In the end Palamon wins and marries Emelye.

In the tale of "The Wife of Bath", there is a man who rapes this girl. He then gets sentenced to court to the queen. The queen then says that he must go in search of what women most desire in an amount of time. He then goes all over town and to places asking people what women most desired. He was not successful, until he found this old lady who told him the answer to his question. She tells him that women most desire an upper hand. So he then goes and tells the queen that women most desire and upper hand, a husband. She then tells him that he is right, but he ends up marrying the old lady. He dislikes the idea, but he has to do it anyway.

In the knight's tale, there are two men fighting for a woman's love, while in "The Wife of Bath" a man marries a woman that he does not want. In "The Wife of Bath" the man takes advantage of girls and doesn't appreciate them, while in the knight's tale, both Arcite and Palamon care for Emelye and so their best to win their heart. There is not really any similarities between the tales except the fact that in men both tried their best to accmplish their goal.

In both tales, there are many differences, but very little similarities. In the knight's tale two men fight the love of one women. In "The Wife of Bath" one man has to find what women most desire.
Therefor, both tales include that men have to accomplish their goal. The two men's goal is to get Emelye, while in "The Wife of Bath", the man's goal is to find out what women most desire.

Two tales of deception

The canterbury tales ahd many simularities and differences between them all, but what i am ging to compare and contrast are the Merchants tale and The nun's Priest. Between the two tales that were told on the way to Canterbury seemed to be different, but yet, sounded the same when it came to the moral of the story as well as the love complexities that they had as well. True cheating and deception was going on in the Merchants tale, but there also was somewhat a sense of loyalty that she ahd for him.
The merchant became blind, so he coudltn see the way she was going to cheat on him, but he didnt know that he was going to get his sigth back wehn she atucaly did the affiar with another man that he had his eyes on and hers on his. true, she cheated on him, and admitted it in a way which she could try to turn the tables off of her to him saying that she helped him get curred from his blindness. He later acepted that she really did help him and went on their way out of the orchad.
The Nun's Priest had some simularities to the Merchants tale as well. There was a cook that had his eyes on one hen that was the finest of all hens in the coop. He loved her ever since shew as born, and vould that he would marry her. She grew up and they married like he set out to do in the first place. There was this fox that took the cooks father away while he was still a baby. Supposedly the cook had a voice that was the most beautiful of all cooks that croked in the morning sun. The fox led the cook away form the farm, telling him that he sould sing for the fox just like his father did. The cook was nieve to think the fox, a natural preditor, wanted a cook to sing for him. In the end, the fox took the cook and dragged him to the woods.
The simularities between the two tales were that the nieveness of the two men. The merchant thought that the wife had sex with the other man to cure his blindness. The cook that was overly selfobsorbed believed that the fox was going to be nice to him and wanted to hear his voice.
In the end of the two simular and contrasting tales there were simularities and differences but mainly differences for various reasons.

Jeff Badu Essay-Analyze the function of The Prologue

Canterbury Tales Prologue Essay
The purpose of a prologue is to introduce the reader to a story or poem. A prologue is a preliminary discourse, a preface or introductory part of a discourse, poem, or novel. In Canterbury Tales, the purpose of the prologue was to introduce the reader, entertain the reader into reading the story, and to educate the reader. The story introduces where the men were going to and what they were going to do on the trip. A prologue is something good because it will how the story is going to be told and it is basically a key to a lock.

The first purpose of the prologue was to introduce the reader. An example will be about how the characters are introduced. Some characters were the Knight, the Host and St. Thomas. The prologue talks about where the people were going. The people were going to Canterbury to meet St. Thomas. There were 29 people going on the trip and it would last some days. The setting of the prologue was in April, Spring. The men were in London trying to get to Canterbury. The introduction part of the prologue basically tells reader what the story is going to be about.

The second purpose is to entertain the reader. An example would be about the people traveling at night and the have to tell tales on the way to St. Thomas. Ever person had to tell two tales each. The person who can tell the best tale on the way there and the way there would recieve a free dinner and would be known as the best tale teller. The reason why they did all of this was to kill time on the way to the trip and the way back. The entertaining part of the prologue is to tell reders what is going to happen and why it will happen.

The third purpose of the prologue is to educate the reader. An example would be about talking about the how the town they were in was and some of the things they were doing. It talks about in March, how it smells good and about a got named Zephyrus who cured people with their sickness. Another exmaple would be when the author tells us about the Knight. The knight was a strong person and he is is a good reader and writer. The education part is to tell readers about the characters and things that they did that we did not know.

The purpose of a prologue is to introduce the reader to the story or poem. In Canterbury Tales, the function of the prologue is to introduce the reader, entertain the reader, and educate the reader. A prologue is a good beginning to the story because once you read it, it makes you want to read the actual story. The thing that makes you want to read Canterbury Tales is the fact that people were going to tell a whole bunch of different stories and they were trying to see who can tell the best story. I think that prologues are key to reading the book if the prologue is good, and if it is a bad prologue, you probably would not want to read it.

tracing love

Tracing love through out many stories in Canterbury tales

In the Canterbury tales love plays a rather big role in every ones tale. For example in the merchants’ tale the blind man’s wife was in love with his Paige. In fact she was in love with him so much that she slept with him in a pear tree. In every person’s tale there was a role in which love and duty affected its course. It seems that love is a very persuasive thing in each of these tales.
In the knight’s tales there were these two cousins who were prisoners of war. While there were in prison they caught sight of Emily a beautiful princess. Instantly both cousins fell for her. The gods which watched over them gave them more reason to fight over Emily. The cousins were so in love with Emily that they organized a tournament where they would bring 100 men and fight to the death. One of the cousins won the match and was about to win Emily when a thunder bolt hit his horse and it fell over him making the other winner of Emily. It was their love that brought jealousy and hate towards each other that in the end had them fighting each other.
In every tale there was a balance between right and wrong being determined by what the characters did. There were some cases where their love was so strong that it involved being unfaithful towards their wife or husband. Yet they still found that their love was pure in their eyes. So analyzing these different tales shows a lot of different views on what is right or wrong based on the points of views. In a way you can conclude that if you think its true love you should do the impossible to get to it.
In my opinion I feel that love is not the way to solve certain disputes or anything like that. If you analize every character’s major role it always involved fighting over love which in a way clouds you to making the wise decision towards that. In fact it leaves you making many dreadful mistakes that might come back to you in a different way. It also affects your kinship with your relatives just like in the knight’s tale where the cousins went so far as to fight each other in a death match. Although love takes a major role in these tales its not always the best way to show a moral or lesson.

The Merchants Tale.....

Comparing and Contrasting two pilgrims

At the turn of the seventeenth century, a small group of English separatists sought to practice their religion free from the persecution of Henry VIII. By 1609, the congregation settled near Leiden, Holland. Soon dissatisfied, a small group of them sailed from Plymouth, England, aboard the Mayflower on 16 September 1620, carrying a charter for what would become the first permanent English settlement in North America. These Pilgrims arrived in Provincetown Harbor on Massachusetts Bay on 21 November and soon settled in neighboring Plymouth Harbor. Half the residents died in the first harsh winter, yet the colony grew, and in 1691, was absorbed by the Massachusetts bay colony.

The nucleus of the group came into being in the meetings of a group of Puritans at Scrooby, a village in Nottinghamshire, England. Opposed to the episcopal jurisdiction and the rites and discipline of the Church of England, the group had formed as a separatist church by 1606, with John Robinson eventually becoming their minister. The congregation was composed mainly of farmers and artisans, men of little education or position, although William Brewster, one of their leaders, was a man of some importance in the town and had spent some time at Cambridge Univ. Although not actively persecuted, the group was subjected to ecclesiastical investigation and to the mockery, criticism, and disfavor of their neighbors.

To avoid contamination of their strict beliefs and to escape the hated church from which they had separated, the sect decided to move to Holland, where other groups had found religious liberty, despite an English law that forbade emigration without royal permission. After several false starts, two of which were frustrated by the law, small groups made their way to the Netherlands in 1607, and by the middle of 1608 most of them had reached Amsterdam. They went from there to Leiden, where they established themselves as artisans and laborers.
Life in Holland was not easy, however, and the immigrants found the presence of radical religious groups there objectionable. Dutch influence also seemed to be altering their English ways, and the prospect of renewed war between the Netherlands and Spain threatened. For these reasons they considered moving to the New World.

In 1617, John Carver and Robert Cushman went to London to make arrangements with the London Company, cautiously negotiating the pledges necessary to satisfy the company, king, and bishops and still keep the religion of the dissenters pure. In 1619 a charter was secured from the company in the name of one John Wincob, but it was never used. The matter lapsed until early in 1620, when Thomas Weston, speaking for a group of London merchants, offered them support and the use of a charter already obtained from the London Company. A joint-stock company to last for seven years was arranged. The congregation voted in favor of the voyage, but only about half of the members decided to go.

what I learned from the Nun Priest tale

The story that I am analyzing is the nun priest tale and what I learned from this tale. The story is about a lady that lives in a little cottage with her two daughters and she had lots of animals. Out of all the animals her favorite one was her chicken his name was chauntecleer and what made him so special from the others was that he could crow really loud. No one in the land was equal to his crowing the lady loved him so much. All the hens on the farm was in love with him and wanted to be his wife. The chicken found him a wife and they were in love. Every night while the chicken and his wife was asleep the chicken would have nightmares about this big fox killing him and eatting him. The chicken had told his wife what he had dreamed about an dshe thought that he was crazy she told him that it was just a dream and that it was all in his mind. One day while the chicken was in the garden he saw the fox that he saw in his dream and he was scared. Somehow the chicken ended up in the fox's mouth. The fox run with the chicken in his mouth to the forest. the chicken told the fox to open his mouth and the fox did and chicken flew away.

The Reeve's Tales

This tale, The Reeve's Tale, explains that you die how you live. In the Reeve's Tale, Reeve tells us the story of how the Miller and the two scholars are into it with each other. All because the Miller is a thief of the town. And the two scholars Alan and John seeks revenge on him. Lets peruse and analyze more on how the story became to be.
In this story my group read was a tale of how the Miller was a treacherous thief. He stolen everything especially grain and takes it back to his wife so that she would use it for something. Im guessing he was poor and needed extra food but it didn't say. He had a wife, a gorgeous daughter, Mayne that many men wanted too marry, and a baby in a cradle. This is the desription of him. Now lets describe the two scholars.
Now the two scholars are the revengers. Their names are Alan and John. Must be two close friends. They seen what the Miller was doing and they didn't like it at all. The Miller stealing grain from them, oh no that wasn't right. Which is why they seek revenge. They asked for permission to go to the Miller and they got the okay and so they went along to find the Miller. They said with them being around the Miller would never be able to steal again.
To the Climax of the story, one of the scholars falls in love with the daughter Mayne who he screwed. But the town's Parson wanted her instead. The Miller lets loose of the scholars horse so when they run after it he can go steal. Which arouse more revenge on the scholars hands. So they steal the baby and kind of hide it. When the mama finally finds it she lays in a different bed which was the other scholars bed and they also screwed together. Next the scholar trys to get in the bed with the other scholar but ends up in the bed with the Miller, and he begans to speak to him about how he screwed the Miller's daughter. The Miller hears it and grabs the scholar. The wife awakes not knowing whats goin on because the Miller fell on her and awakened her. She saw violence and tried to hit the scholar but ended up hitting her husband and he died.
So as the Reeve said the moral of the story is you die how you live. What goes around comes around. Which is why the Miller was a thief and fooler and he died by thiefs and foolers.

Essay-Choose a tale and analyze what you learned from it and about the story teller- By Dmiri Christiel

I am analyzing the merchant tale and what i learned from reading this tale, in the merchants tale there is a old man who is searching for a wife when he finds her he thinks he's in love but little did he know she had a secret lover one day he becomes blind and wishes that his young wife stay by his side.she did but her sercret lover was always there then once the gods had seen this they gave him his eye sight back and the old man saw his young wife with her sercret lover, she begins to make up lie's and excuses of what she wasnt doing with the other man and how the old man is wrong of what he see's her doing but little does he know she was cheating and she knows what she did was wrong.

this tale shows people that even through you thought you found true love they could still lie and cheat behind your back when you are not looking, all the old man wanted was to find a young girl he could live out the rest of his life with, the merchant is a women who is repatedly tested by her husband to satisfy him and and making sure that she is obediant to him as he thinks a women should be and her story is the total opposite of her, it tells how the women is disobediant to her husband and cheats on him rather than her who does everything for her husband.

the mercanht feels that each women has there way of life but yet still controlled by men thats why her story was the opposite of her i guess to express how she feel a women wants to be,with somone who she loves instead of a person she did not choose to be with.the merchants tale is the foolisheness of men and the devious ways of there wives, why does a man have to run a marriage.the merchant herrself has been marride for two months and has very diffrent feelings herself.

Compare and contrast the two female pilgrims

Today, iam going to compare and contrast the two femal pilgrims in the Canterbury Tale. They are The Wife of Bath and the other one is Prioress. They are the 2 only women, but have a lot of things in difference.

The Wife of Bath represents the "liberal" extreme in regards to female stereotypes of the Middle Ages.Unlike most women being anonymous during the Middle Ages, she has a mind of her own and voices herself. Furthermore, she thinks extremely highly of herself and enjoys showing off her Sunday clothes whenever the opportunity arises. She intimidates men and women alike due to the power she possesses. Because of her obnoxious attitude Chaucer makes her toothless, fat and large and no wonder she is very ugly. The Prioress, on the other hand, serves as a foil to the Wife of Bath. Chaucer describes her as "tender-hearted" who cannot bear the sight of pain or physical suffering. She will cry at the thought of a dog dying. It could represent that she has a frail soul with low tolerance for pain and suffering.

The Prioress's superiority over the Wife of Bath is shown again in the presence of education. The Wife of Bath has travelled a great deal and seems knowledgeable about things of the world. She brings up many a valid point throughout the prologue but Chaucer voids her opinion because of her social class and looks when in truth she is actually wise. The Wife of Bath has understanding for the world and knows very well what's going on. However, during the Middle Ages, only scholarly or academic knowledge is recognized. What the Wife of Bath understands and pursues may not be commendable. On the contrary, the Prioress is considered "scholastic" and high class due to her good manners. Her ability to speak the noble language of French puts her character in a higher class as well. Thus, once again the Prioress is considered intelligent. Basically, the Wife of Bath is kind of a foil to the women during the Middle Ages. Her actions and thinking not only differ from the Prioress but almost from everyone else!

The Wife of Bath is radical especially when it comes to relationship with men. She is characterized as knowing much about love, which is illustrated by her physical defect-being gap-toothed symbolizing "sexual accomplishment." She also had five husbands and countless affairs, thus breaking innocent men's hearts. Her husbands fell into two categories. The first categories of husbands were rich but also old and unable to fulfil her "sexual" demands. The other husbands were sexually vigorous, but harder to control. But Prioress, on the other hand is well mannered, educated, "powerful" and above all, is loving. Second, is the issue of marriage and "sexual demand" which will never have its roots in the Prioress's life as she has taken the vow of chastity. The Prioress is pure in heart and thinks of men and women alike.

The Wife of Bath and the Prioress alike have power over men once again this characterisation would scare men. It is rare that women are given such high stature during the medieval period. The Prioress as her name suggests is "a superior being in a monastic community for women" is so important that three priests were in her company; as this shows her status as the boss, this dominance would be very fearful for men of the time. The hag, whom the Wife of Bath identifies with, initially was granted sovereignty and power over man. This is proven when the hag offers her husband the choice: he can have her old and ugly and faithful or young, beautiful, and possible unchaste. He tells her to choose; he grants her the sovereignty.

Compare and Contrast Merchant's Tale and Wife of bath's tale

Then there was this young man that worked as a servant for the king that fell in love with the young woman and she fell for him too.

so the king had a garden that the two young people met everyday, they also would pass serect love notes to each other the best way they could. So they start falling in love with each other and they wanted to mate with each other. the young lady didn't enjoy mating with her husband because he was much older than she was.

the story went bad when the king went blind and had to depend on his wife to take him every thing.

Is it easier being a man or woman

Is it easier being a man or woman

I believe being a man is easier than being a woman.

For real , woman have more fun. guys play videogames or watch sports and it made fun . But guys are suppose to be the leader, provider and the inforcer of any family in our culture, the guys are suppose to be the MAIN financial provider. That's one stress we don't have to worry about as much. And now all you girls are going to starting yelling that I'm being sexist and that girls can do anything guys can. females had to deal with child birth, period and extra things that men can't do, because it not in our nature. both sexes are hard to be. Women are expecting men to do more, Men are confused about what they are supposed to do.

Actions Speak Louder Than Words

i think actions are stronger than words. The reason i say this is because actions speak louder than words. When someone says something you don't always take it serious, but when they do something you know they are serious. If someone comes up to you and tell you they are going to do something to you, you mightor might not belive them. If they actually do it you have no choice but to take them serious. Most people would rather for someone to say they are going to do it than actually do it. For example if your mother tells you to clean your room and you keep telling her that your going to do it. She wants to clean you room instead of telling her your going to clean it.

Traveling= Bellringer

If I had the freedom to travel I would travel to hawaii, Florida or Cuba. I would travel to Hawaii because it is said to be so beautiful. This is also good if you want to go want to go on a honeymoon. It would just scare me to think if I was to get stranded on this island I also figure hawaii could be a good place to relax and get your thoghts together. Cuba makes me want to travel there beacause much of my faamilly came from there. It would be neat to experience through the eyes of my people and get in touch with it. In Chicago you have people that don't seem not so down to earth as I expected I think you may have that in Florida. Florida has those people that would probably open up your world and go for it.

Bellringer

Just keep the sun in my storm clouds
Appreciate you as a man I was born child, young
Lookin for young girls to party with
Make your body shift, shake up your cartilidge, women
I wasn't satisfied with just oneI'll rip your valentine and having time adjusting, its hard
I thought not a soul could change me
You honor roll, I was down with hoes in grade C, level
I guess there is roses in the ghetto
Gotta find them, always meet the dozen not he diamond, coal
Been supportive now my days shorter
When they was longer dealin with the side
effects were calmer, mistakes
I tripped over in my early days
Making the skies over few look a pearly gray, dirty
Until you came along and laid it on
I'll stick with you even if my man say its wrong, for real Since its my last point I guess I gotta put it down
For the queens who fiend for the kings who come around
I wanna extend the jewels to the crown
Behold you are soul that is lost never found
Still a virgin cause you untouched
Messin around with low-life ******, who dont give a what
You need a king to put it down right
I know you want something thats more than just a one night
Stand tall never fall for the less queen
Naive niggas with tired ass raps stuck in his dreamstate
With his truck and his real estate, fell for the bait
Not knowing he's tryna change what's sealed in his fate
Just a mouse lookin through a crack
Of the gates to a soul never coming back
Cultivaters never laid to realize self
And when its done the queen of queens
will complete your wealth
Know thy self

Epic Story

Tonight...
The stars are aligned and the planets colliding
And the plan is arriving and she's out there smiling
The fear is upon us, the skies tried to warn us
Your parents are goners, no children to mourn
It's driving me crazy, this war is my lady
These bombs are our babies and God is amazing
The tick of the timer, the slip of your rival
The pimps and the rise of your pulse, where you'll find her

Death is on the tip of her tongue
And danger's at the tip of her fingers
Streets are on fire tonight

Disease, the virus is spreadin' in all directions
No safe zone, no cure and no protection
No symptoms to find, the signs of an infection
No vaccines, remedies and no corrections
Quarantine your dreams and sever all connections
Don't let 'em in not a friend, not a reflection
Everybody's got it and wants you to have it next and
Don't accept 'em if you want to stay as an exception
No pill can heal the ill of this
Sickness some are still in doubt of its existence
Some call it forgiveness and some call it the vengeance
Some say it's an exit, some say it's an entrance
The poor say the rich have the cure
The rich say the poor are the source
Revolutionaries say it's psychological war
Invented by the press just to have something to report
Some say the first case came from a maternity ward
Some say a morgue, some say the skies, some say the floors"
Whores," say the nuns, "nuns," say the whores
And everybody is sure
The scientists say, "it only infects the mind"
The little boy said, "it only infects the girls"
The preacher man said, "it's gonna kill off the soul"
A bum said, "it's gonna kill the whole wide world"

But never knowing about origin of killers den
The world never knew that the enemy was sin
Until the “one” came out of his shell to win
The undisputed battle between it and him
Never to be decided by the weak eyes of the mortals
Keeping a safe distance from dies and immorals
The “one” has never before lost a battle
The virus is the beast that lives in the shadows
The light of the one keeps it weak in the gallows
Shots to eyes
Blows to the nose
Beats up the face
Until its disgraced
The whole world can see
The demise of a beast
Whose ignorance matches the ones it diseased
The price it now pays
The lair it now lays
Influence on the lives that have traveled the wrong way
The effect that is has is not strong to battle rebels
But the world can meet its cynical side called the devil
Defeated by one he would like know
The world is clueless yet thankful of the young savior Michael

Once known a merchant with a stiff long beard
dress up with all type of colors, made him looked a little queered
always rode a horse along with his beaver hat
but you will swear up and down his money was flat.
had much emphasizing on how his money grew
he had all type of security to gaurd the sea.
the merchant did preety well on selling flemish currency
he made very good use of his wits
but the way he conducted himself
you never knew what he did with it
in any case, he was indeed a worthy man
but to tell the truth, i dont know what his name is,
better yet ireally dont know if he is a man
as walking to the knighthood
and as turning twenty years old
with the strength of a man with goods
trying to win his lady back with gold
a pile of flowers with beautiful colors
and singing with emotions
and the full monthof may with love
dressing up with clothes of lust
and reciting a poem of trust
as the sun goes down

I would say that actions are stronger than words, because you can be saying that you want to fight someone, but really doing it. Thats another scene. But at the same time words could be stronger, because you can change someones mind/life with words. I mostly would have to say that actions speak louder than words, because Georege W. Bush was saying how he is going to take our people from war. But it took action from Baraca Obama to try to get our people from fighting. Words could be powerful at a point, because when Malcom X, and Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. wanted to cahnge the world. Never did they use weapons or actions. There words moved people, and caused people to want a change to. They might have been sent to jail, tried to be beaten, or have had there homes burned down. Nothing was going to be in the way of them trying to make a change. Nothing but death. Actions could always speak louder than words. Just untill violence gets into it.

dada knight's description

I have alot of time before the story starts to rhyme. He was never honored for his grace even though he showed honer, generousness, and courtesy in many places. He went into war by himself he needed no man help. He sat with honor scarier than lighting braver than thunder

Rhyming Poem about Skipper

Skipper came from far west of Dartmouth.
There he was riding his horse very fast.
In a woolen gown that reached his knee,
a dagger on a lanyard falling free.
Riding his horse in the summer heat all around.
Leaving a tan that turned him brown.
Though his life seemed fine.
He always drunked red, and yellow wine.
If, when he fought, the enemy vessel sank,
he sent his prisoners home; they walked the plank.
After fighting the prisoners, he had such dispatch.
He had none from Hull to Carthage as his rematch.
