From School to home, teens walk a perilous line
By: Karl Mables
I found this article to be very interesting. I am a teen growing up in Englewood, so I can relate to the trials of fellow teens in high violent communities. I think that this school year is the worse one yet. According to the article, 22 cps students have lost their lives due to violence. The latest kid was beaten to death with a bat. That's just the murder, that doesn't even include the students who were shot and didn't die.
It's at the point that I'm almost scared to walk down the street. The article also talked about turfs. In my community, we called them blocks. We fight to defend the pride of the block. Sometimes there are friends fighting friends, cousins fighting cousins. It's a sad situation. The article mentioned that kids would fight over something as little as a dollar. In my neighborhood, kids would fight just about anything. It's to the point where u can't even look at someone.
I am most afraid for the girl. They seem to fight more than the guys. Girls at my school will fight their friends over a boy. I don't know why these girls are fighting about things in which they have no control. You cannot control how someone else feels. According to the article, girls and boys seem to fight because of jealousy. I feel that we are all in the same situation. There is no need to fight about who has new gym shoes or new clothes. School should be getting a education, not getting hurt or killed.
