With 22 students killed this school year, violence has become an unavoidable part of life for kids who just want a safe place to learn and live. Chicago Public School students have died because of gun violence, homicides, and gang violence. About twenty have been shot, (some were drive-bys), one was stabbed, and one was beaten to death. Usually this happens because of someone having an altercation with someone else and a young person just so happens to be in the wrong place at the wrong time and catches a bullet. All of this happened this school year of September 2008. Some were on their way from school, some were on their way to school, and some were going to do other activities. Nine times out of ten, the student that is going on about their regular day life ends up in a position I feel they never wanted to be in. There are two many of young people dying and so far, no one is doing anything about it. This is not a typical teen’s life. I believe that all of this is upright ridiculous. How can we kill our own future because we are constantly making the mistake of killing our target or killing someone in the way of our target? How do we even expect to have a future if the future is dying? When will the world stop and see that this is not what is suppose to be going on right now? When will they see that this is not the way to live? These are the questions that popped up in my mind when I was writing this article. I just hope that the main ones who are doing these harsh murders inquire themselves these questions. This is not necessary for this generation.
