As
a child Isaac and his friends every evening after school and every Sunday after
church will gather around and play some soccer at the near by park in Mexico.
And one day Isaac came into the U.S as an immigrant with his father,
grandmother, and baby brother. The Munez family immigrated to Los Angeles,
California
Ten years went by….Isaac was now 20 years
old. Now Isaac works with his father and plays for Los Jovenes Americanos F.C.,
one day as Isaac had a soccer game and was playing, a retired recruiter Glen
Foy saw Isaac play.
Glen
was amazed at how Isaac played and quoted, “He is a really good player.”
Isaac’s coach heard Glen say that and replies with, “very talented.”
After
the game, Mr. Foy went up to Isaac and said, “Son you know you could be playing
professional soccer right?”
Isaac
was shocked, so he answered with, “Well for that I need to go to college but I
never had the time to go.” Glen didn’t doubt a bit that he could convince Isaac
that he could make it pro, “I used to be a recruiter and played professional I
know what I’m talking about,” added Mr. Foy.
“Oh
yea? Where?” question Isaac.
“In
England,” answered Mr. Foy.
“England?”
asked Isaac, “Well I’m sorry but I have to go work.” As Isaac is walking away
Mr. Foy called out his name, “When is your next game? I have someone in mind
that can see you and could tell me if you can make it,”
Isaac
answers with joy, “Saturday, it would be nice for you to bring him.” As Isaac
arrives home, just outside his house, his father is talking to a guy about a
red pick-up truck. Isaac went inside his house wondering what his father was
going to do. As Isaac walked inside his house his grandma asked him how his game
went.
Isaac
responded with, “We won 4-2, I scored 2 almost 3, what’s my dad up to?”
Isaac’s
grandma didn’t expect that question, “Well he wants to buy a truck, so you guys
can work independent Munez & son,” answer Isaac’s grandma. Isaac’s father
walked in a bit upset saying that the truck was too expensive.
Isaac
said, “Oh well” and left to work. Isaac had a decent day at work but after all
he knows its ok because it pays off. As time pass by Isaac couldn’t stop
thinking of Glen and on how he could have that opportunity to play pro. A
couple of days later, it was Saturday, Isaac knew he had to be at his best to
impress the guy who was going to go see him play. Before his game Isaac always
takes two puffs from his asthma pump. The game has started and Isaac was doing
his best not only for his team but to impress the guy who was going to see him
play. But unfortunately the guy didn’t make it and Glen apologized for the
inconvenience.
Isaac
was sad and said its fine, his grandmother said “Mr. Foy he could always come
to the next game.”
Mr.
Foy looked at her and said, “Unfortunately he’s going back to England tonight
and so am I.”
Isaac
and his grandma look at him and said, “Thank you anyways,” and walked away.
As
Isaac was getting dressed he was still thinking about of how he could’ve made
it pro and said to himself, “Out of all my dreams the one I want to become to
reality is the one that gets thrown away.” Isaac went home upset, wondering if
he should give up the dream of becoming a professional soccer player or not.
He got over it and went
home to get ready for work, “Another tough day of work ahead of me,” quoted
Isaac. Isaac got home, got ready for work and left to work, which would be the
only way he could forget about what had happened earlier that day. As Isaac was
working he didn’t know that Glen was calling the head coach of a professional
soccer team in England. “RRRRRRRRRRIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIINNNNNNNNNGGGGGGGGGG!”
the phone rang. “Hello, who’s this?” questioned Mr. Dirham.
“This is Glen Foy,”
answered Mr. Foy.
“Glen Foy? Do I know
you Mr. Foy?” questioned Mr. Dirham once again.
“I
was one of your scouts when you first took over, you fired me actually when you
brought the new regime, but I don’t hold it against you.” Added Mr. Foy.
“You
don’t? So why are you calling me at 3:30 AM?” interrogated Mr. Dirham.
“Sorry,
I’m in California, uh, I just seen a young player, I think he has a remarkable
talent.” Apologized Mr. Foy. “Who does he play for?” wondered Mr. Dirham.
“Uh
a local league, point is I will be flying back to England tomorrow and I want
you to make me a promise, if he appears in your door step would you see him?”
inquired Mr. Foy.
“And
you want me to promise you this right?” asked Mr. Dirham.
“Yes,
just give him a run up that’s all I am asking for.” Added Mr. Foy.
“If
I say yes would you let me go back to sleep?” asked Mr. Dirham for the last
time.
“Uh,
yes Mr. Dirham,” answered Mr. Foy.
“Then,
yes Mr. Foy.” added Mr. Dirham. Glen giggled after Mr. Dirham hung the phone
up.
The next morning arrived, Glen was up and about happy
because of the promise that Mr. Dirham made to him about Isaac. Glen was in his
car waiting for Isaac to come out of church to give him the news about the
promise, and keep Isaac’s hopes up about becoming a pro soccer player. “TING!
TING! TING!” rang the church bell as the mass was being dismissed.
“Isaac,”
called out Glen.
Isaac
turned around and said, “Hey.”
Glen
answered with, “How are you?”
Isaac
didn’t expect Glen to show up at church, so he was shocked, “Fine thank you,
what are you doing here?” surprisingly asked Isaac.
“Your
coach told me where to find you,” responded Glen.
“Who
is he?” interrogated Isaac’s father.
“He’s
the guy from England who saw me play the other day,” answered Isaac.
“If
you travel to England New Castle will give you a try out,” interrupted Glen.
“New
Castle United? That’s a big club,” gladly said Isaac.
“Very
big club,” added Glen.
“Do
you really think you’re going to travel to England just to play pro soccer?”
questioned Isaac’s father.
“He
thinks I’m good enough,” calmly answered Isaac.
“Why
do you fill him with ideas like this? Who the hell do you think you are?”
Isaac’s father questioned Glen, ‘and you, why don’t you keep your feet on the
ground, instead of your head on the sky?” Isaac’s father angrily asked Isaac.
Isaac just sighed and got a bit upset for his father not supporting what he
loves to do, which is play soccer.
“Let’s
go,” stated Isaac’s father.
Isaac
and his grandma stayed and Isaac’s grandma stated to Glen, “It’s a big thing
you’re asking for Senor, he’s supposed to fly half way across the world just
because you said so?”
Glen
answered with, “The manager’s have made me a promise, they’ll give him a try
out, and the rest is up to him.”
Isaac’s
grandma looked at Glen asked, “So look in my eyes and answer me this question,
do you think Isaac will make it as a professional?”
Glen
answered with no doubt, “I believe he can,” Glen then realized he had no more
time to spend, and he didn’t want to miss his flight, ‘here’s my card with all
of my numbers, think about it and give me a call.” Isaac took the card and
thanked Glen. It turned to night, Isaac knew he had to work and earn money to
probably be able to travel to England. Isaac got home entered quietly because
he knew his family was sleeping, he entered his room slowly to not wake his
little brother up.
Isaac
opened the door of his closet but the screech of it was a bit noisy, Isaac
opened the closet door to get the boot he always puts his earnings in to put
the money he got paid at into the boot, Isaac’s little brother woke up and
said, “You got enough?”
Isaac
turned around shocked and said, “Enough for what?”
Isaac’s
little brother answered with, “Everyone knows you keep your money in that boot,
so you going?”
“Grandma
thinks I should.”
“What
does dad think?”
“I
haven’t asked him.”
“How
far are you?”
“400
dollars away, now go back to sleep.” And so Isaac’s little brother went back to
sleep. For the next few days Isaac was working hard with his father and in his
regular job to earn enough money to travel to England. One day after a game, Isaac
was dropped off by his team bus to his house and he seen that the truck his
father was trying to buy a couple weeks ago was parked in front of his house,
that got Isaac to think something was up. Isaac entered his house and went to
his room checked if his money was still in the boot, it wasn’t, he checked in
the other boot and nothing appeared.
It
bothered Isaac and he went to ask his dad where it was his father replied with,
“I paid 4,500 dollars for the truck I borrowed 1,200 dollars of your money, but
half the landscaping business is yours, it’s a deal.”
Isaac’s
grandma heard and said, “You robbed your own son!” Isaac’s father said, “Don’t
get involved mom.”
Isaac
interrupted and angrily replied with, “You know what it was for. Two more weeks
and I had enough.”
Isaac’s
father quickly argued back with, “For what, to chase a stupid dream? Big time
soccer player in England, C’mon that’s bullshit, and when you fail how are you
going to come back with no papers?”
Isaac
without thinking twice said, “I had one chance, and you think I should just
what give it up for what you do?”
Isaac’s
father immediately argued back with, “What I do is take care of my family! In
Mexico I worked construction and at night I cleaned a bar! But I saved enough
to bring us to America and when your mother walked out on us, I held this
family together!”
Isaac
with tears on his eyes said, “Leave her out of this dad, please.”
Isaac’s
father kept arguing with, “I made enough to buy this house and now we have our
own business, that’s how things get better, that’s how you measure a man’s
life!”
Isaac
had enough and his last words were, “IT’S YOUR LIFE! Not mine.” As soon as Isaac
said that to his father Isaac went to his room because he felt bad, he was
starting to get an asthma attack and he couldn’t breathe. He felt like he was
going to pass out so he took 2 puffs of the inhaler to calm him down.
A couple of days went by since the argument.... Isaac was
working with his father by their own landscaping business.
Isaac arrived home and
was calm, his grandma received him, “Where’s your father?” asked Isaac’s
grandma.
“He
went to the auto part shop to buy a part for the truck,” answered Isaac. “Good,
he doesn’t have to hear this, here a train ticket to San Diego.”
Isaac
opened the envelope and inside the envelope there was the train ticket with 300
dollars, Isaac was shocked and didn’t know what to say. “Here a bus ticket to Mexico City,” added Isaac’s grandma.
“Mexico
City?” questioned Isaac.
“Yea,
you can’t fly to England from Los Angeles, you’re illegal, this is the date for
your flight, it’s scheduled for within a week,” continued Isaac’s grandma.
“Grandma
what did you do to get all of this money?” wondered Isaac.
“I have worked all of
my life, I have my earnings,” lied Isaac’s grandma.
“You’re
lying grandma, what did you sell?” kept questioning Isaac.
“Old
things from the past.” Isaac just stood there and was thinking about how it
would be amazing to be a professional soccer player.
“Am
I leaving tonight?” asked Isaac.
“Yea,
leave before your father gets home. Isaac when your mother walked out on us, I
promised God I’d do everything to help you boys follow your dreams, you deserve
this chance Isaac. Take it,” replied Isaac’s grandma.
Isaac took the chance, and started his journey. Isaac
traveled to San Diego, then to Mexico City, and took the flight to England. As
soon as Isaac arrived to England he called Glen immediately to ask him how to
get to New Castle. Isaac took the train Glen told him to take to get to New Castle;
as soon as Isaac arrived Glen welcomed him and let him settle in his house with
him.
“So
this is my house, my daughter and I live here,” mentioned Glen.
“What
about your wife?” asked Isaac.
“She
passed away two years ago from cancer,” said Glen.
“I’m
sorry,” apologized Isaac.
It
was morning and Isaac woke up looking out the window he saw the beautiful view
of the ocean and thought of going for a light jog around it, and so he did. As
Isaac was jogging he was also enjoying the fresh breeze of the ocean water.
After his jog Isaac went to get himself some breakfast before his try out for
New Castle United, after eating breakfast Isaac got ready for his try out. Isaac
and Glen arrived at the stadium for the try out and went straight to Mr.
Dirham.
“Mr.
Dirham. Sorry I’m Glen Foy, this is the young man I was telling you about from
Los Angeles, Isaac Munez,” started Glen.
“When
was this?” doubted Mr. Dirham.
“When
I called you in the middle of the night, you promised to give him a try out,”
added Glen.
Mr.
Dirham looked at Isaac and asked him, “Where do you play?”
Isaac
was shocked that he was inside a stadium where pro soccer players play in and
replied with, “Uh, in Los Angeles.”
Mr.
Dirham giggled a bit and said, “I mean position.”
“For
my team I play up front but I prefer midfield that way I can see more of the
ball.” Answered Isaac.
“Get
him over to the training ramp let’s see what he got” said Mr. Dirham
“Will
do thank you very much,” answer Glen. So Glen and Isaac head out to the
practice ramp.
As
soon as they arrive Glen tells Isaac, “Hey I’ll be around,” as Isaac gets out
of the car. Isaac gets inside to the locker room all nervous hoping he does well
and starts changing.
Isaac
is ready and the trainer walking in and says, “There you are how you feel son?”
“Okay,”
answers Isaac
“Good
Mal Bravely, trainer. I have been Glen’s friend since he played here so I’m in
your side you understand?”
“Yes
sir thank you,” answer Isaac
“No
trainer, the coach is the boss and he’s going to see you play today ok, you’re
ready?’ Responded Mal.
“Yea,”
answer Isaac and freezes for a quick minute
“Come
on you’ll do fine,” says Mal.
“Yea,”
gasped Isaac and runs behind Mal to warm up.
Mal
puts him in and said, “Go on try your best,” as Isaac tried his best there was
just something wrong he wasn’t playing as usual as he does, he guessed he was
just nervous. He trips, falls, and falls and can’t really control the ball. As
Mal see’s he’s not doing well he takes him out and sends him to the showers.
As
Isaac comes out to meet up with Glen he sees Mal and Glen are talking and once
Mal walks off Isaac walks up to Glen and say, “I don’t know Glen my legs
wouldn’t do what my brain said, ill be better tomorrow I promise.”
“There
is not going to be a tomorrow Isaac.... get in the car,” Glen tells him.
As
they got to Glens house Isaac tells Glen, “my father always thinks people have
a blessing in life, you work, you feed your family, you die, and it’s foolish
to think otherwise.” Glen looks at him and heads out of the house to a local
restaurant to have a talk with Mr. Dirham.
“Mr.
Dirham, Glen Foy from this morning listen sorry to interrupt the presiding,
have I missed all those boring speeches?”
“I’m
going to make one of those boring speeches, this distraction is not welcomed.”
Answer Mr. Dirham.
“Well
if you would’ve answered my calls I wouldn’t be here.” Said Glen
“What
do you want?” asked Mr. Dirham
“Listen
this kid Issac Munez he’s grown up in a small town, his only way out is his
skill with the ball, his flew 6,000 miles on my say so, he’s jet lack, he’s
nervous, and he never played under rain before, and you put him in a pitch like
that, and then you spend all the time on your phone.” Explains Glen
“I
saw him more on the grown than on his feet.” Said Mr. Dirham
“Yea,
but there was a moment of magic when he took the ball on the bounce turned
Magalon and took it down.” Explained Glen
“I
saw it’ said Mr. Dirham.
“Listen
when I was a scout, I used to spend all the time in moody days just watching
young lads crowing each other and once in a while their will be one that will
come along and lift your heart like this lad, just give him a month.” Begged
Glen.
As
Glen arrived home and saw that Isaac was looking at his pictures of when he
played he said, “Isaac I seen you found my album of when I played.”
“Yea
you never told me you played in first division.” Said Isaac
“Well
I did, but hey here,’ Glen takes out his old jersey.
“Oh
no I can’t accept it, it’s special,” insisted Isaac.
“I’m
not giving it to you I’m just trying to see how you look in black and white.”
Explained Glen
“No.
With what purpose?” questioned Isaac.
“With
what purpose? Well that your trying out for a month, you better call your
grandma.” Happily says Glen.
Isaac
stayed in shock and said, “A month?” in a gasp. They both laughed together and
seemed really happy.
So on the next day Isaac presents himself to practice and
practice hard to get accepted in the team. But afterwards he got send to the
hospital to get examined for the team’s records and to know about his health.
But one thing he lied about was that he had a respiratory problem, which was
asthma. And every day that passed Isaac learned more and more and started to
blend in with the squad. Another day passed and the whole squad practiced
indoor. As the head coach, Mr. Dirham, sees them practice he calls out Isaac
and asks Mal for 5 minutes alone with Isaac.
“Isaac come here...so
when I say go I want you to run as fast as you can to the goal...Ok?” Explained
Mr. Dirham
“Yea” said Isaac
“Go” said Mr. Dirham.
“Come back.....again...go,”
said Mr. Dirham, “what did you learn?”
“That you could score
from half field.” Answer Isaac
“No that ball could
travel more faster than you, here we pass the ball you understand that, we are
a unit not a running show, the name in front of the shirt is more important
than the one in the back, ok?” explained Mr. Dirham.
“Yea,” responded Isaac.
The next day, Glen took Isaac to go see his first, first
division New Castle game. This game was an important game because it would
count for next season to play in Europe. Later on that day after practice the
trainer put up the list of the players who made the reserve team, Isaac seen
his name on that list and was really happy that he made the reserve team. Isaac
called back home to Los Angeles to let his grandma know that he made the
reserve team.
“Aren’t
you going to tell him grandma?” asked Isaac’s little brother.
As
soon as Isaac’s father heard he said, “Tell me what?” Isaac’s grandma was happy
to tell him that Isaac called home to let them know that he has made the
reserve team after only 3 weeks and would be playing the next night.
“He
left without saying good-bye, why should it matter to me?”
It
was game day for Isaac, he was excited to play. Isaac and the team were all in
the locker room getting dressed for the game, also to start warming up. It was
time to go out to the pitch to warm up and get the game started. Isaac waited
for the team to head out so that he can take 2 puffs from his asthma inhaler
since he was keeping his asthma problem a secret, but he didn’t realize that
Chuy, a teammate, was still in the locker room. Isaac took his inhaler out of
his bag and the inhaler fell right out of his hands, as soon as Chuy seen the
inhaler drop he rushed to stomp on it and headed out to the pitch. After Chuy
stomped on the inhaler Isaac picked it up and it was all destroyed, there was
no possible way he could fix it so that he can take two puffs from it, he knew
he wasn’t going to play the same. Isaac headed out to the pitch knowing there
was a problem but he was acting as if there wasn’t. As Isaac was playing his
coach and trainers were watching him play and realized that he wasn’t playing
the same, so Isaac was substituted out of the game. Isaac didn’t even bother
sitting down in the bench, he went straight into the locker room knowing he put
all that hard work all those 3 weeks so that now it was all ruined.
His
trainer walked into the locker room and told Isaac, “What’s the matter, huh? Is
there something you want to tell me son?” Isaac didn’t respond, so his trainer
sat next to him and added, “I know you got the skill but maybe you don’t have
the pace or the stamina for the English game, maybe you’d be better off playing
back in LA, I’m going to have to let you go son.”
Isaac
couldn’t believe what he had just heard, he was devastated. He was devastated
because he knew he failed Glen, and his grandma, but most importantly because
he remembered what his father told him that one evening. Isaac decided he would
go back home the next day because he didn’t belong in England if he wasn’t in
the team.
As Isaac was heading to the train station to
head back home his taxi driver got a call saying that one of the first division
New Castle players needed a taxi to get to practice, when the taxi Isaac was in
picked the player up he recognized Isaac and asked, “Aren’t you the guy from
LA?”
Isaac
replied with, “Yea.”
“You’re
going to practice too?” the player questioned Isaac.
“No,
I’m going to the train station to head back home, I ruined it all,” said Isaac.
“Tell
me about it on the way.”
So
Isaac told the player what happened. As soon as they got to the practice Isaac
and the player went to Mr. Dirham’s office and the player told the head coach
about why Isaac wasn’t playing the same the night before, which it was because
of Isaac’s asthma problem.
“Is
this true?” asked Mr. Dirham.
“Yes
sir, but I tried to hide it,” answered Isaac.
“Lying
is a problem, asthma is not, you can get shots, medication, acupuncture, didn’t
your doctor back at home explain this to you?” questioned Mr. Dirham.
“I
don’t have a doctor, all I got is a free clinic in LA,” added Isaac.
“People
keep bleeding your case Munez,” said Mr. Dirham.
“All
I want to do is prove them right sir, well if you give me the chance,” Isaac
responded.
“You
think you deserve it?” questioned once again Mr. Dirham.
“I
know I do,” immediately answered Isaac with no doubt. There was a pause.
“Good,
see the doctor, tell him about your condition, and report for practice, ok?”
continued Mr. Dirham.
A big smile appeared in Isaac’s face and he
said, “Thank you,” and immediately rushed to the doctor.
After
Isaac went to the doctor and solved all of his problems with asthma, he got
accepted back into the team. Isaac was once again playing for the reserve team
of New Castle United; he was once again playing like he always played. After
being accepted back into the reserve team Isaac was once again putting a lot of
effort and working hard, all of the effort and hard work Isaac put into soccer
paid off in the games; Isaac was becoming a better and better player every
single day. A month ago Isaac was leaving the city, but now he has a contract
and his own apartment to live in.
“RRRRRRRIIIIIIIIIIINNNNNNNNNGGGGGGGGGGG!”
rang the phone back in LA in Isaac’s house.
“Hello,”
answered Isaac’s little brother answered.
“Hey
it’s me,” replied Isaac.
“Isaac!
Hey brother what’s up?” asked Isaac’s little brother.
“Nothing
just wanted to talk to dad,” answered Isaac.
Isaac’s
father was walking by, “Hey dad, it’s Isaac, he wants to talk to you,” Isaac’s
little brother told Isaac’s dad.
Isaac’s
dad thought about it for a moment then said, “Tell him I’m not available.”
“He
can’t talk right now, ok?” Isaac’s little brother said.
“No
problem man.”
After
his call home, Isaac got ready for practice. Isaac arrived to practice and
right away checked the reserve list to make sure he is still part of the team,
he checked and his name did not appear in the list, he got upset and went to
complain.
“What’s
up?” asked one of Isaac’s trainers.
“What’s
up? I just saw the reserve list, I’m not in the team, I didn’t even make the
bench I don’t get it, I play wherever you tell me to play, I play how you tell
me to play,” argued Isaac.
“I
didn’t drop you son, your not in my team anymore,” responded the trainer.
“What
are you talking about?” interrogated Isaac.
“You’re
playing with them,” said his trainer looking at the first division team, ‘in
London on Saturday,” finished up the trainer.
Isaac’s
biggest dream was finally becoming true. He was going to play his first ever
division game on Saturday. Isaac had his first practice with them as well.
Isaac was putting a lot of hard work into this practice because he knew he had
a big game on Saturday, just the feeling of knowing that Isaac was going to
travel with the team was amazing. These last few games that were left in the
season were important to determine where the team will stand next season.
Saturday
came, it was game day, and it was time to shine for New Castle United.
The
commentators quoted, “New Castle scrapped that win over Chelsea, but it won’t
be enough for its self Liverpool are breathing down their necks and to make it
worse there is make shift look to the New Castle United line-up today, with all
their injury problems, one f their substitutes, Isaac Munez is a completely
unknown, has been said he has been doing very well with the reserves, but this
is a much much more higher level.”
Back
in L.A the game was also being viewed at a local bar, surprisingly Isaac’s
father walked in to watch the game, the game started off well until one of New
Castle’s players was elbowed in the eye and was seriously injured.
Mr.
Dirham took a look at his bench and called Isaac up to substitute the injured
player, “Munez,” said Mr. Dirham, Isaac didn’t believe what he heard Mr. Dirham
say, “Munez! You’re going on,” lastly said Mr. Dirham.
Mal
grabbed Isaac’s jacket and said, “This is the time to show them what you got,
now give me that.”
Back
in L.A a couple of customers of the bar quoted, “Who the hell is that?”
Isaac’s
father heard and proudly said, “That’s my son, that’s my boy Isaac, I’m his
father.” The customers congratulated Isaac’s father and gave him a chance to
sit with them. As Isaac entered the pitch and heard all the fans in the
stadium, he was amazed at the feeling he got when he took his first step on the
pitch. Isaac’s father back in L.A was very excited and was jumping out of his
seat. New Castle won its second consecutive game in a row out the few games
they have left. That same night of New Castle’s victory, Isaac’s roommate took
Isaac to a party. Isaac was enjoying the party, his roommate told him it was
dead so they went to the second floor party to meet up with Isaac’s roommate’s
friend, and Isaac’s roommate’s friend said that the second floor wasn’t a
party, so he took them to the third floor and said, “This is the party,” and
pointed at a couple of good looking girls that would make them have a good
time. The next morning Mr. Dirham called Isaac into his office and was really
upset at him for coming out in a newspaper front cover; making his team look
bad.
“Want
to explain this?” interrogated Mr. Dirham.
“There’s
nothing to explain sir, it was just people fooling around in a party,” said
Isaac.
“When
you travel with this club, you are still representing this club,” continued Mr.
Dirham.
“Mr.
Dirham it’s not my fault,” explained Isaac.
“It
is your fault; you exposed yourself to this kind of situation, who’s the other
player?” questioned Mr. Dirham.
“The
other one?” asked Isaac confused.
“It
says there were two New Castle players, who is the other one?” asked Mr. Dirham
once again.
“I
can’t tell you that sir,” answered Isaac.
“You
mean you won’t tell me,” said Mr. Dirham angrily.
“Yea,”
finally said Isaac. Isaac’s roommate thanked Isaac for covering him up.
“We’re
even now I don’t owe you any more favors,” said Isaac.
“Ok?”
answered Isaac’s roommate.
“You’re
screwing your life up man, how do you think that picture made the newspaper?
Your friend sold it! These are probably the best years of our lives, and how
many years we have left? Ten if we get lucky, we’re one tackle from flipping
burgers,” added Isaac.
“Get
out, I want you to go,” said Isaac’s roommate. Back in L.A Isaac’s little
brother replaced him and was working with his father, until one day as they
were finishing the job by placing the sprinklers, Isaac’s little brother yelled
out, “Come on dad lets go!” There was no response so he yelled out, “Dad?” and
he went looking for his dad, he seen a body lying on the grass that looked like
his father and he yelled out for the last time, “DAD!” and went running to his
fathers body.
Glen
received a call in England letting him know that Isaac’s father had past away.
He immediately rushed to let Isaac know that he had to call home because there
was a family emergency.
“Hey
Glen, I was going to tell you about the picture on the newspaper,” said Isaac.
“Isaac
I got a call from L.A, you need to call home,” replied Glen.
Isaac
immediately called home and got the news that his fathers past away because of
a heart attack, Isaac right away broke down crying when he got the news.
Isaac’s whole team went to look out if everything was ok with Isaac, but Glen
told them that Isaac’s dad had a heart attack and past away. Isaac’s team felt
bad for what happened to Isaac. Isaac at the moment thought he had no other
choice but to give up what he loves to do to go back home because of what happened.
Isaac thanked Glen for everything before Glen left and Isaac took the flight
back home to L.A.
As
Isaac was sitting in the airport waiting to take his flight back home he had a
flashback of his life and what his father had done to him, he kept thinking
until he got called up to board his flight. As soon as that happened Isaac
right away held himself back from giving up his big dream to go back home
because of his father passing away, he went back to practice.
Mr.
Dirham saw him and pulled him out to talk to him, “What the hell are you doing here?
Why aren’t you on the plane?” “I was sitting in the airport and I’m thinking to
myself at least now I have an excuse, a reason to give my buddies and everyone
else why things didn’t work out, hey my dad died, I had to go home to take care
of business, you know why I needed an excuse?” quoted Isaac. “No,” answered Mr.
Dirham. “Because that’s the way my father made me think, he took away my self
believe, he made it impossible to have inspiration, you understand?” added
Isaac. “Yes,” Mr. Dirham answered once again. “I don’t need an excuse, the only
person who can tell me that I’m not good enough is you, and even then I may not
agree,” finalized Isaac. After practice Isaac called home to LA to let his
grandma know that he wasn’t going to go home, his grandma said it was a good
choice because there wouldn’t be a point on going back. Isaac told himself that
he wouldn’t give up on himself or his dream, so he went to his home stadium to
shoot the ball around to distract himself from all his problems. Mr. Dirham
seen him shooting around and said, “Munez, how you feeling?” “Ok boss,”
responded Isaac. “Tough thing to lose your father, I still remember losing
mine,” added on Mr. Dirham. “Thanks,” Isaac said sadly. “You shouldn’t be here,
you should be resting,” Mr. Dirham replied. “I just um, wanted to see what it
felt like to be in this pitch,” continued Isaac. “You’ll find out Saturday, now
get off the grass, por favor,”
responded Mr. Dirham. Isaac looked at Mr. Dirham with an amazed look and was
happy to hear that he would probably have the chance to play Saturday. Isaac
immediately let Glen know that he was in the squad for the Liverpool game.
The
day was here, the day that would determine where New Castle will stand next
season, the last game of the season. All of New Castle players where ready and
dressed to play their last game of the season. Isaac was a starter for the
team, as he stepped on the pitch, his home pitch was happy, very happy. Back in
L.A Isaac’s grandma and little brother were also ready to watch Isaac play the
last game of the season. The game started off physically, but that wasn’t going
to stop New Castle from doing well.
10
minutes into the game and New Castle was winning 1-0. The game stayed this way
for the next 5 minutes when Liverpool tied the game to make it 1-1. New Castle
fans couldn’t believe it, when 2 minutes later Liverpool scored again to make
it a 2-1 game. New Castle and its fans thought it was all over for them. It was
halftime and New Castle was still trailing 2-1.
The
second half started, the score was the same 2-1. New Castle wasn’t giving up
just yet. 10 minutes in the second half, Isaac got an assist to his roommate to
tie the game up for the second time to 2-2. But the equalizer wasn’t enough to
take New Castle to Europe next season. The score stayed tied 2-2 until the last
3 minutes of the game, when Isaac’s roommate got fouled just outside the goal
box, New Castle knew this was a perfect chance for them to regain the lead and
win the game.
Isaac’s
roommate called Isaac over and gave him the ball and said, “It’s yours.” Isaac
grabbed the ball, put on the grass and prayed in his head before the whistle
blew and he took the shot knowing he had a city depending on him. Isaac got
ready to take the shot left footed. The whistle blew, and Isaac took a few
steps back to get a good angle to kick the ball. Isaac finally shot the ball
and he shot it into the right upper 90 of the goal net. The whole stadium
boomed of excitement. New Castle and its fans knew they had a new song to sing.
Back
in L.A as Isaac’s grandma and little brother were celebrating Isaac’s goal, his
grandma proudly said, “That’s my grandson!”
The
same people who Isaac’s father told that Isaac was his son heard Isaac’s
grandma say it and responded with, “We met his dad.”
“How
could you?” asked Isaac’s grandma.
“He
was here for the Fulham game; he was very excited to have seen his son play.”
“Dad
was here?” questioned Isaac’s little brother.
Isaac’s
grandma was shocked and didn’t know what to say.
There
was a couple of seconds left for the game to end; New Castle was just waiting
for that whistle to blow to end the game. The final whistle blew and the
stadium roared of excitement once again because of New Castle’s victory. As
soon as the game ended Isaac’s grandma called Glen to speak with Isaac.
“Isaac!
Isaac!” Glen called out, “someone wants to speak with you.”
“Yea,”
answered Isaac.
“Isaac,
we saw you play, your brother and I, you were fantastic. I want to tell you
something about your father, he had the chance to see you play before he past
away against fulham.” Added Isaac’s grandma.
“Aye
Glen, you remember when I played against fulham? My dad saw the game! He saw me
play man!” shouted Isaac.
“He’s
probably watching you right now!” said Glen in response.
“Isaac!
Isaac! Isaac!” shouted one of Isaac’s secret crushes.
Isaac
turned around and seen who it was, but did not know the girl.
She
blew him a kiss and he yelled, “YEA!” knowing that thanks to him New Castle
would be playing in Europe next season and because after he was going to leave
the city twice because of problems and fail everyone who had faith in him he
stayed and now he knows that thanks to his effort and hard work everyone will
be in his side and have faith and hope in him.
