Christopher Merrick Story on Chicago- page paper

Fort Dearborn was built in 1803, when the U.S. government gave white men permission to kick the Native American out of their land. It was in March 9, 1803 when the U.S. decided to put a Fort Dearborn in honor of the Secretary of was Henry Dearborn. It was the Indians there at that time, which they were forced to move. The Indians were not pleased by getting kick out. In August 15, 1812 the Indians destroyed the fort and the only thing that was still left of the first fort was bricks and pieces. In August 1816 the second fort was rebuilt under the supervision of Captain Hezekiah Bradley and all the waste of the old fort was removed from the site. The Native Americans was not please and a Native Chief Black Hawk was not settle still they started war which was called the Black Hawk War.
The Native Americans brought a great war by fighting the whites to get their land back, that their father laid their graves. Then Indians were not afraid of the whites but they knew that it wasn’t going to take a tribe to kill the whites. The Indians had brought to tribes together which were Sauk & Fox tribes and the Indians attacked the whites on August 15, 1812. That was not enough for the Indians so in 1832 Chief Black Hawk gathered an army and return to the land he was born to, but when the chief return he didn’t just bring a tribes he brought an army of 760 Sauk and Fox Indians to get their land back. The Indians burned Fort because they felt that it wasn’t fair that their father land was taken away from them. Back in 1804 a man named John Knize was settle in the region of Chicago and brought out property from jean Lalme Kinze and stated “it was wrong to be treated like that “ John helped the Indians fight the white’s .Today’s law you couldn’t come into someone’s possession and take it without pay. I want to know why the settler’s back then filled that was right. The U.S. government had no right to force the Natives Americans to leave their land. The U.S. government was wrong and had no right to force the Native Americans to leave their land. In 1831 the U.S. government had forced the Sauk and Fox tribes of the land that is now Chicago to the other side of the Mississippi river in Iowa the Sauk and Fox tribes move immediately but a group Natives fought back by chief Black Hawk, because he refused to move Illinois soldiers helped the whites fight in the war which was named the Black Hawk war and kick the natives out. Troops arrived in the area on August 17 and began building shelters and a stockade and they help the U.S. government take the Natives out. Lieutenant Swearingen was ordered to proceed with the company of Captain John Whistler to build a Fort on the Chicago River and you know what that means it was times for the Natives to go. A bunch of white men stated “we the white men kick the Natives out and their fighting to get their land back” That was the wrong thing to do because in today’s government of the U.S. the only way they can take your possession if you don’t pay the money due to the thing you own. I want to know and I’m sure others is Why the government back then was so different than today’s? The Native Americans were the first to find the wonderful of Chicago which means “stinky onions”. Chicago began with nothing but empty wilderness and open prairie. It first appeared on the maps as a region in 1684 as Chekagon but it was the Indians to help it form into the crops of the land. Jacques Marquette and Louis Jollet explored the region of that land but never stop to search the land. Although many Indians were all over the west coast they were all over the Midwest also they founded Chicago. John DuSable and Chief Black Hawk were the two people that founded Chicago. John DuSable was a Black pioneer and if you know anything about Indians Who would know a Chief of an Indians tribe. The Indians felt that their rights were not respected and they said, “We saw no sympathy being for us, for our love of home no respect paid to the graves of our father’s and their land” .That’s right because if I found something or a product I wouldn’t want someone to take my land. The Native Americans were the first to settle in Chicago; Therefore the United States government had no place to move them off their land they were born into. It was a great push for the Native Americans to fight and to stand up for their father’s land.

"DOWN THE DRAIN"

“Down the Drain” By: Antenette Franklin

“Malik, Malik, open the door baby” she cried. Banging none stop, Malik finally open the door. “Girl what you want?” he said wiping eye boogers off his face. “Malik, bay, they got yo mama, Malik they got her!!” she cried harder. Finally realizing that she was crying he snapped to reality. “Who? Who got my mama, what you talking about?” he asked anxiously. “The hospital” she cried, “they got her and your brother, they got... They got hit by a … car, a hit and run, Malik, I’m sorry baby!” she pleaded through stumbled words. “WHAT!? Where she at… what hospital? Tell me now… wait why are you sorry?” he said puzzled. “I don’t know, I love your mom, your brother, and you, I’m feeling bad because something bad happen to ya’ll” she said. “Oh… well don’t worry just tell me what hospital!” he asked. “Thelma’s Critical Hospital, that’s where they took them” she answered. “Okay stay here, calm down, I’m on my way there” he said while grabbing the bus card off the table. “I want to go with you Malik don’t leave me with … you know…Theresa” she worried. “Don’t worry about her okay and try to keep her calm so she won’t do nothing stupid” he said quickly. “Okay…I love you…” she responded. “I got to go get my mama” refusing to respond back to her comment, he left out the house with a doo-rag white beater and pajama pants.
Forty-five minutes wasted riding the bootleg train, he arrived at the hospital. “Damn… why they put her in the dirtiest, bootleg hospital in the city?” he asked himself. “Hi, May I help you?” asked the clerk. “Um… yeah, my name is Malik Thompson and my mama is in this hospital” he answered. “Do you have a room number you can address so I can write you a pass?” asked the clerk. “Man I don’t know, they just brought her here a few hours ago…dang don’t yall automatically put her in the system or something?” he said angrily. “No, we don’t, now sit down and I’ll see if we can send you up there to see her” she replied rudely, smacking gum and then returning to the phone and asking for numbers and what not. “Whatever man, do whatever you go to do for I go up there myself” he said sitting down. “Aye! Lil boy I don’t know yo nappy headed ass so don’t come in here talking shit, now shut the hell up and do what I say” rolling her eyes. “Aye bitch, you do what the fuck I tell you and stop worrying about what comes out of my fucking mouth aight and that’s all I gots to say” and he sat peacefully. “Whatever” was all she could say. Ten minutes later a doctor came back down stairs to Malik reporting that Ms. Thompson was in bad condition but he could come see her if he liked. He got a pass and walked up to the floor where his mama was at. “Hey baby how are you?” she asked. “The question is how are you?” he smiled a little. “I’m fine… (coughing) baby (coughing)” she hardly said. “It don’t sound like it” he said. “You wearing pj’s?” she asked trying to crack a smile and also changing the subject. He laughed a little “yeah… I uh rushed to check on you as soon as I got the news.” “Oh” she smiled, knowing that her son cares for her. “Where is Joey?” he asked. “I don’t know… I think he is in another room” she said worried. The doctor came in to see if Malik could come along to hear about Joey Thompson. “What?”… Is he alright?” he wanted to know anxiously. “Well…I don’t know a easy way to tell you this but…” Malik already knew what happened to his brother, He died. Everything the doctor was talking about was at mute. “Code blue, cold blue, cold blue!!” yelled the doctors running to room A203. “That’s my mama, that’s my mama” he yelled. He rushed to A203 to see what was going on but the doctors forced him out and told him to go back in the waiting room. He couldn’t believe it. His heart raced, he started crying softly to himself, beating himself in the chest telling him to man up. “Don’t cry…they got my brother but not my mama too…nah nah it can’t be…GOD won’t this to me…I’m faithful at church.” He thought to himself trying to convince that everything was going good. Three hours later the doctor came with shameful eyes. “What happened?” Malik asked. “We tried everything but…” damn that goes that “but” again. “She had a massive heart-attack and passed away.” Said the shameful doctor. “Not MY MAMA, NOT MY MAMA TOO!!....DAMN YOU GOD, WHAT THE FUCK I DO SO FUCKING BAD TO YOU?!” he yelled across the awaiting room, screaming and jamming his body against the walls. “Sir, sir, sir please…SECURITY!!...calm down please, please…you will hurt yourself sir!!” he demanded kind of. After three body guards he finally settled down a little and walked out the hospital, he couldn’t take no more. His cell ring, it was know Tamela. He didn’t feel like talking but he knew how worried she was and answered anyways, “Hey babes, is everything good?” she asked. Sighing he responded “No.” “NO!? You short-answering me baby, what happened?” she asked. “What Theresa doing?” he asked. “She sitting here impatiently just as I, can you tell us what happened?” she asked. “I’ma explain when I get there aight” and he hung up. Another forty-five minutes he was home. He greeted both with a long hug. “Hey bay” he said spiritless. “Look um no easy way to say this but the car accident cause mama to have a heart-attack and her and Joey died.” He couldn’t speak the words. “WHAT!! OH MY GOD!” both girls shouted. Theresa looked kind of phony, like she didn’t care or either suspicious. On the other hand he took Tamela to his room and they both grieved. Theresa left out without a word.
Two O’clock the next morning Theresa came back home drunk. Must’ve had about 5 too many drinks. “Heeey ugly” she said. “Where you been?” looking at her disgusted and dry-eyed. “And when have YOU become daddy?” she asked. “Whatever” he responded. “Anyways, speaking of adults, I am you guardian now and since moms gone I’ma step up.” Couldn’t really tell what she was saying. “I got a new job at the $5 strip but I’ma still work at Hoochies too.” She was in it for real. He just stared at her. “That’s ashame…she just died, don’t you got any sympathy?” he said angrily. “All I gots to say is that good thing they got insurance” she belted out loud and that’s all she spoke.
Flashbacks always startled Malik. As he just reflected back on all that happened that night. He was sitting in the recliner watching SpongeBob. Its been about 2 years since that incident happened. These thoughts vanished as soon as he heard his sister’s voice. “What Theresa?” he answered annoyed. “Can you cook me something to eat?” she asked coming into the room rubbing her belly. “Man what I look like to you…yo…” interrupted Theresa responded “Aye aye none of that smartass” cleaning dirt out of her cuticles. “Who is paying the rent, bills huh? Well managing them too” she added. “Now go fix me something” she said pushing his head. “If you wasn’t so busy bussing around you a know how to cook!” he said softly. “What you say?” she said quizzically. “Nothing madam” he said sarcastically “SLUT!!” he whispered under his breath. The doorbell rang. “Who is it?” Theresa asked. “Tammy” she answered. “Aw” she opened the door. “Whatchu want?” she asked. “Um can I speak with Malik?” “You know he screwing some other chick right, you ain’t the only one girl, not no more” she said looking her up and down. She spoke loud enough for the whole neighborhood to hear, soon as Malik heard her he ran to the door from the kitchen. “Hey baby, ignore her comments” he said. “Well it’s true!” she yelled. “We ALL not like you” he smiled because he just settled the conflict. “Whatever, remember it pays the bills!” shameless of her booty shaking at the strip, she smiled and walked away. “So what sup” he said kissing her softly on the lips. To him her lips always tasted so good to him, he loved kissing her. Felt he was at best at the task, he smiled to himself. “Oh um I just wanted to help me with this homework problem…I know you good in math soo” she smiled a little. “Um, ok I guess” he said inviting her inside. They went up to his bedroom to do the study. “Dang it’s a lot of pictures of your family in here now” she said gazing at the photos. “Yeah I know, that slut tried to burn all our photos or throw them away. She used some of them for blunt paper too. Weird ass” he said angrily. She kissed him again. “Don’t worry, I don’t know what’s up with your sister but she need a reality check” she chuckled. “What she needs is an ass whooping. And a real ma cause that nigga she got now looks like the hair on my balls” they both laughed hearty. “So where’s that homework at so I can get back to the sponge” he asked. “I um, I don’t have it” she replied. “So you telling me...you walked four blocks to my crib with a fat ass book bag on your back for nothing?” he asked puzzled. “I just need to talk to you” she gave puppy eyes. “Aw, well okay just hope it ain’t about school cause I told you I ain’t coming back man!” “Naw, naw it ain’t about that though, it’s just that…” she paused. He laughed. “C’mon girl spill, you acting like you pregnant or something” the smile turned into a frown when she turned and looked away. “Aw shit naw” he said. “I told you we should use a condom” she spoke softly. “Damn, Damn, Damn! How you know? You took a test? “Naw” she said. “Naw? Then how the fuck you know you pregnant then, huh?” he was getting extremely mad. “Because I keep eating a lot and sleeping, my stomach feels different every now and then.” She said unsure. “That don’t mean shit girl, you always eating” referring to her weight, she was about 185 pounds. She got up and starts walking away. He held his head down and ran after her. “Wait, I’m sorry, I shouldn’t went there, my bad, it’s just confusing. You know you only 16 and me being 17, it’s just to damn soon.” He said calming down. “I know. I’ma go check with a doc to see if I am though, I just wanted to check wit you about it.” She sadly said. Still shocked, he asked her one more tome for forgiveness and then dismissed her. “A baby?” he asked himself. Mama always told him to wear protection. “You never know what these skanks got these days” he remembered her words and smiled.
Two hours later he got dresses. Not the usual way but casual today. He got a interview with this company “Shop and Stock”, yeah he thought a stupid name for a company but it was better then nothing. He left out the house feeling good as the door squeaked behind him. He felt super fresh with the black dickies, white button-up, black blazer and black ones. He was about to hop on the train but couldn’t cause he was disturbed by the drug dealer named Tony. He pulled up and walked outside his car door. Hey lil’ man” he smiled deviously. “What sup” he said still walking cause he really didn’t want to talk to him. Tony walked a little faster to catch up. “Aye wait up though” stopping Malik in his tracks. He slowly pulled out a wad of cash. “I heard you need help with the bills son” he chuckled. “Nah… we straight” he responded pushing the money aside. “You know you want some boy, stop being so damn stubborn, just like ya mama” he smiled again. Now Tony was a slim, tall, super crispy type of guy, as in he was super black. Malik swear he came straight out of Roots. “Nah I don’t, now let me go where I supposed to go” he said angrily. “Damn you nigga” yelled Tony and snapping his fingers at his body guards. They ran towards Malik

L.A.S.T

This is the story of Leo Anthony Smith Taylor he is the last of his family to make something of himself. Just like the initials of his name he is the L.A.S.T. surviving member of his family besides his cousin. Leo lives in New York City and the only family he has left is his little cousin Kevin Quincy; Leo calls him “Q” and the ladies like to call him “Cutie Q” he didn’t like either of the names but he grew to like them. Leo originally resided in Chicago but he was given a scholarship from Syracuse University in New York. Leo had always dreamed of being a hip-hop artist and New York is the perfect place to search for that dream. Although nobody in his family approved besides Kevin who dreamt of being a music producer. Q also gained a scholarship in sound engineering; during their college experience both cousins lost their parent in a plane accident. Both of their parents were on their way to visit their children and both died on the same plane. Leo and Q easily thrived for success but it was time to thrive for what made them happy. Leo and Q then entered the music world because it is what made them blissful they are now embarking on their journey.
“I know this is a formal party but I left my slack and tie
I’m like high florescent light my flow is hurtin haters eyes
To be the winner of this game, and make sure that my score is high
Just like a spray of sweet perfume I leave my essence in your mind
Like a noble swordsman Leo’s bringing honor to the game
Please don’t find yourself an enemy cuz opponents will be slain
Turn every two V’s into W’s Leo’s going for the win
You can call Leo the best before his career even begins”
“Nigga you not hot, you might give a couple of sparks but you ain’t hot” said Kevin. “Nigga stop hating you know I got that shh like quiet” said Leo. “Naw nigga you need to shhh BE QUIET with yo lame ass” said Kevin as he starts to chuckle; “haha get off my jock nigga I spit that ridiculous flow which is surprising cuz I have to use your tired ass beats” said Leo. “Nigga now you speaking in riddles…RETARTED ones if you say my beats is tired” said Kevin. In the daytime Leo works as a PR agent for Bad Boy Reords and Kevin is a sound engineer for ESPN; the type of careers that any regular 23 or 24 year old man would settle for. But these two are different; at night Q dj’s for the 4040 club on Washington Street and Leo performs at the same place. They both promote the album the y just created call “The Sky’s Limit” but tonight Leo and Q are on a different mission. Mr. Sean Carter (Jay-Z) is performing at Madison Square Garden. Leo and Q have backstage passes and the plan is to catch Jay-Z after the show and freestyle for him and pray to God that he is interested. It’s been three hours, the show is over, and the boys have been waiting in the parking lot where Jay would be leaving out of…here he comes. “Mr. Carter I have this 16 from the top of the brain that you’ll love” said Leo; “Oh word…hold on let them go their alright, ok get it crackin then” said Jay.
“Jay asked what more can he say, well I have nothing to add
Because niggas think it’s breezy wait til Leo brings the draft
I’ll give a rough one; you can print the final ad
My name will be the main print the subtitle will say the best
I was ready to die like Biggie cuz the flow just staunk
Now my rhymes is wity I’m spittin that Machine Gun Funk
They say your, nobody til somebody kills you and all
The world stabbed my in the back praying for my downfall
Now I play Big Poppa as I kill inside the booth
Nothin to say to these labels but gimmie the loot, gimme the loot
Left a warning to the playa haters my peoples will shoot
Now what’s beef to a nigga when he drinkin chicken noodle soup
When I had suicidal thoughts music was the only friend of mine
So now I’m making sweet love to the bass and feeding these rhymes
“That’s enough….I love how you put all those Biggie songs in your verse here (Jay hands Leo a card) come here at noon tomorrow and who’s your friend?” Asks Jay; that’s my cousin Q he’s one the coldest producers you’ll ever meet just give him a chance” said Leo. “Alright bring him with you tomorrow with samples I’m feeling lucky tonight you better be something cold Mr….” said Jay; Mr. Leo sir answered Leo “and trust I’m not cold I’m the artic” said Leo; “Ok see you tomorrow” said Jay as he closes the door to his limo and drives off. For any regular men trying to get a record deal they would cry at this moment but for these two. “Ay nigga you move as slow as you rad hurry yo ass up” said Kevin; “Alright pull out your wedgie you feminine ass nigga I’m coming” said Leo. “I can’t believe Jay-Z is interested in yo weak ass you should’ve went to go freestyle for Master P someone you can relate too haha” said Kevin as he laughs at his own joke. “Nigga you always hatin you know you love me on hose dry ass Dracula beats you be makin” said Leo; “whatever nigga come on so we can go pick out the beats we want him to hear” said Kevin. The day arrives Leo and Q are standing in front of the address Jay-Z had given them their eyes pop out a little the title of the place seemed unreal for a moment….TOO BE CONTINUED

Soul Searching Part I

"Dear Diary, I don't wanna keep s**t inside of me
I'd rather just speak to you privately
Maybe it's my mood as far as I can see
there's really no point in having this guy with me."

I'm confused...about us. I mean, we've done had this thing going on for a long ass time now and even though we always fall out sometimes, we end up back together. I can't take this anymore! One second it's, "I love you, baby." The next it's, "You treat me like shit." Well, now it's, "F*** you!". I'm tired of being the one who gets hurt. I'm tired of you and your "I love you's!" Nigga, you make me sick to my stomach! Yet, you make me feel all these damn emotions. I'm not trying to get hurt again, alright? I'm tired of you playing these mind games with me. You messing with me, man. Do you understand that?
I keep telling you this won't be easy the second time around, I hardened my heart, but you seem to be the only guy who can break me down and make me act like I lost my damn mind. Now, I can't even look you in the eyes. You happy? Hey, you spoiled me, I want too much in a guy. I have high standards. It's times where I miss the hell out of you, then it's times like now, where I wish you'd get out my life. I gave you the best of me and so many times you took that for granted. Yes, I know I take more than I give. That's just me!
What I'm really tired of is you and your lying. The sad part about it is, you think I don't know. How could you look me dead in the eye and say that? Is it really that easy? If so, than you must not "love me" as you say. You got me paranoid and I'm wondering if I should just end this right now. I really do. You know what? You ain't ever gonna find someone better than me! Never in your life! We had a connection! HAD! You destroyed us because you tried to turn me out. It didn't work and it's over now...

P.S. Sometimes, I wish my words didn't sound foriegn to my own ears and mind...

Grown Man B.I: Part One

It's dark as oil in this room. The floor is shaking boom boom boom " spending every night in the studio..." the walls are sweating. Daddy's in the darkest corner of the room, the girl jukin' on him had been hawking him since he walked in. I mean come on 6'2, hazel eyes, "good hair" and the boy was built. She had no choice right. He had no choice either star of the basketball team ad his mom is VP_ of Chicago’s top scouting agency. The Evisus are fit but this young lady is doing a job that has already been done by a little Asian kid in a sweat shop, wearing his jeans OUT! The young lady turns around when "DADDY! LETS GO! NOW NIGGA!" it was his homie Lil' Duke. They had been friend since second grade, Duke born Ashley wasn't the cutest dude out the bunch however, he had a Mississippi pimp tongue on him slicker than a whale with fish grease on his back. A fight had just broken out and if Daddy and Duke didn't run up there would hell to pay when Krell summoned from the pile up. The boys mouth got him into constant trouble in school and at home.
By the time they had run up Krell had already had the worst of it. Duke says in a monotone voice "Aye Jo ain't no point in fighting." pulls out his grandfathers wood-grained Taurus and fires two shots into the air. The crowd disperses as they expected. Krell emerges and through a swelling jaw "Where the hell was yall two at!" Duke opens up his mouth for an excuse when Daddy interjects "I was in there doin' what you should ah been doin' instead of runnin' yo mouth, I was choosin' when yo..." he muffs Duke who had a gun at the leftside of his waist -"ass interrupted me." Daddy shoot they should of called the boy fearless. It was clear the party was over them they decided to Duke's uncles spot on Madison. Walking down Madison is like a journey in a Indiana Jones Movie. There are two types of people on Madison the high and the lowly, luckily Daddy, Duke and Krell were high on the food chain of the west side streets. During the day it resembled a Mini-Time Square at night it was an entirely different story pitch black speckled with yellow streetlights. Loitered with Chicago's finest players and pimps on one side and their victims on the other. They walked Until they had reached Kostner. To the unsuspecting eye it appeared to be an abandoned mechanics garage, but Duke knew it s home since he was eight. It was the place he fled to when his momma was on one of her vacations code for her frequent drug binges. Daddy knew the place too, but you could hear the splatter of the sweat that drippped offf Krell's face hit the floor.
"Scared?"
"Naw what I'm scared of?"
He should have been church boy gone wanna be bad boy was at the door to Hell's Kitchen. What Krell didn't know was that Duke's Uncle was Mister "Shut It Down" a.k.a Mr. "Don't Say My Name" he was a notorious figure on the west side, was neck deep in the drug game and dabbled into quite a few business ventures in the suburbs. On top of that he was BFFs with the police chiefs. You could smell the death coming from underneath the door that led to basement. They walked up a narrow stairway you would think the doors in a place like this would be locked but they werent. Duke pushes the door open flops on the nearest coach and pushes the heel off of one shoe with the toe of the other.
"Man we at yo game tuhma Krell'
"Yeah jo its about to be very diverse"
"Aye Daddy you gone getchu an authentic blonde chick this time? none uh dat fresh out the bootle s#%t"
"Uh NO.. you know Zhay got cousins everywhere."
"You waunt worried bout thath s#%t in the corner wit shorty"
daddy shoots a look Duke with that infamous gleam in his eyes "Fam that was her cousin"
They all three burst out laughing
"You A DOG!!!"
Daddy smirks
"What can I say the young ladies like it rough rough, I'm just giving the public what they want."
They sit back on the couches and finish watching the last bit of State Property that was on TV.
"We in fa the night?"
Krell respond with "I gotta go home I have church in the mornin'."
Daddy pointing at him saying "This dude"
They walk Krell to Lake. On the way back, Duke finally speaks "That's my mans and all but he forever stuntin'." Daddy shakes his head and realizes this Timberland is not cutting it, pulse out his phone and text his mom [Ma ull tk me 2 da northface sto 2ma]. She text back the usual yes and are you coming home? Of course, he wasn't. Mr. Badside was on his way to Jhene's house, he turned into Mr. Playdoh at the door. The person he was walking up to it dissapeared completely. Jhene was a junior at Whitney Young, she was bad I mean Janet meet Halle in cat fight with Beyoncé bad. Jhene was the reason Daddy wasn't 100% jerk.
"Baye come to the door"
Jhene came to the door reppin' the dolphins to the fullest.
"Sweat pants hair tied chillin' wit no make up on..."
She throws her arms up around his neck and gives him a kiss.
"How do you smoke and play ball all in the same season?"
"Yo man got skills"
"My MAN has stank breathe"
"Where my toothbrush at?"
"Come on Brandon where is it always at."
The boy was the most functional lazy person on Earth. He reached down to the bottom drawer and pulled out his toothbrush, he pushed Jhene's birth control to the side and laughed. "Baye can I have one of these mints?" The boy had intention of living up to his name. He thought he was the man. It had been just him and his momma since he was 3. His dad had moved back to Decatur and his mom became a serial dater. Daddy damn near smashed the last prospects face into his own seven series before his mom saved dude. "Nigga you ain't my daddy! I'm Daddy Nigga!!" Sounding like a deep voiced toddler. "Brandon what's taking you so long?"
"Nothin'."
He tip-toed out the bathroom wearin Jhene's bathrobe, shower cap and house shoes.
"This is how you choose tocome out the closet?"
"Shut Up Girl."
He flops in the bed and starts reading her papers.[Spelman]. His heart sunk into his stomach, he knew that he could get a ball scholarship to anywhere and his grade weren't that bad. He wasn't leaving his momma and Jhene wasn't leaving him.

R&B or HIp Hop

Most people dont even listen to r&b anymore only when their in the mode. All the young generation do is listen to drake gucci or wayne. You never hear any jamie foxx alicia keys or eric bado. The kids these days more than likely dont know about luther or marivn or even ray charles. They dont know that these where the people who paid the road for this rap that they listen to. Me personally would choose r&b over rap any day because some rappers that just came out dont know what to rap about. All they do is rap about money car clothes and gurls and that's even a song. Now dont get me wrong some of the new song are fun to dance to or just bob your head to but you get tired or the song being about the sam old thing. It get very annoying having to hear the same thing reaptedly over and over again. Most kids dont know what real music even the new r&b is all about bumpin and grindin. Dont get me wrong the beats are nice to slow dance to or do something else to but its lost its meaning. Songs back in the day told stoies about their lives or what going on around them but song s lost their meaning now a days. Most people say that i listen to the same thing they do and dance to it and everything. I do i'm just saying songs have lost their touch since back in the day. It's just that since the times have changed the r&b artitst are trying to keep up instead of having their song mean something they just make something so that young kids can shake their but to and buy. There's a few r&b artist who have still kept their touch and are writing songs with meaning but in due time they will change. I also think that hip hp artist should talk about something else instead of the gang that there in and who they gone get its get tiring. I think that more rappers should rap like t.i. or my fav Jay Z. He has a point to all his songs and he knows how to rap because he respects all of the older rappers who pave the way for him. That's what rappers these days don't have respect for the people who brought them into the world. They just come into the rap game thinking they are the stuff when they don't know a single thing they are doing. All rappers care about is getting their next song to attract a certain group and get them to buy it and it works. They can make the pointless song and the song just just needs to have the right beats and some swearing and something about a gang and BAM you got a hit rright there. Because most teens are gang baggin rite there and a part of it reflects on the rappers they look up to. Just like Gucci his song big broke records he's talking about killing someone. Which is a bad influence on young adults but just because it got some nice beats and some lyrics about killing most young male teen are going to like it and him. Which makes no sense to me i guess that's how world works some time. Jamie Foxx latest cd that just came out was great his somg had some great beats and his songs had a meaning every one of them had a meaning. Jamie Foxx songs usually are for an older crowd. Because he talks about what grown folks do but they are still good songs. What is up with people remixin slow r&b songs and not making any sense at all. They just are there because they couldn't male their own or their just desparate for a hit. Either way it goes people just need to stick to their own songs and stop trying to remix other peoples. All in all i would pick r&b over rap any day don't get me wrong i listen to rap but i just like a nice slow song after a long day of school and stress it helps me calm down and realxes me.

The Top Five NFL Teams of All Time

The Top Five NFL Teams of All Time

1985 Chicago Bears
The game scores in the ’85 playoffs tell the story; 21-0 over the Giants, 24-0 over the Rams and the 46-10 destroying of the Patriots in the Super Bowl. Article On: Chicago’s Youth:

This article talks about all of the violence that Chicago teens are facing just traveling to and from school daily with the gangs and violent crimes happing daily. Last year our murder rate was at an all time high we topped New York and even California by doubling them. Most of these killings were teens and they were all people of color. Our city elected officials need to do something for out city so that we can feel safe just traveling to and from school again people are afraid of the gang violence, stray bullets, and even just being singled out for no reason. We have to work together so that our teens don’t become statistics and stop all of the young people whose lives are ending at 15 and 16. This is a scary site.

Home coming! Home coming! Home coming! Home coming was what we call juking.home coming was juking because it was so many people there. it was the right type of music and everything because usually when I go to home comings the music isn’t very right. the music at our home coming was jukin.everybody was dancing and having fun with their friends. for homecoming I had to do a lot of things. at first I had to decorate the gym and that took like two hours to do then me and my friend had went to go try two find us something to where to home coming. I had no luck finding what to wear lucky I had an out fit in my closet to wear. I made it homecoming like at 830.when I went inside the gym I looked around and notice that we really did a good job decorating the gym. last but not least my song came on and I was dancing until the dance was over

Lakers Or Celtics....Upcoming season for the titans..

The Lakers are still the best team in the NBA,not only have they kept theyre 2008-2009 championship team, they have upgraded at the small foward postion with the aquisition of Ron Artest. The Celtics are also pretty good with adding Allstar Raheed Wallace and Getting some depth on the bench. But the celtics lost a key player in Leon Powe, and Ray Allen, Paul Pierce and Kevin Garnett are ageing by the years. With that being said the edge would have to go to the Lakers, Theyre younger, The defending champs, And they have the best player in the game with Kobe Bryant. They also have one of the most versitle players in Lamar Odom. They also have one of the best defender in the league with the controversal, but worth it, Ron Artest. The Lakers are the team to beat.

The Uplift Titans are going to have high expectations coming into the 2009-2010 season. With the load of talent this team has, they expect to win the red north and contend in city and state playoffs. After winnig a regional championship The Uplift Titans are hungry and they are training hard to be the best they can be. When everybody is on the same page, the titans are very hard to beat. Uplift is a team of the present and also a team of the future with a ton of 2010 and 2011 talent on both boys and girls rosters. The Uplift girls varsity a reigning conferance champions. Lookout for uplift now and later.

CGM CHRISTOPHER MERRICK

Today’s Music

Today’s Music has been extremely unreasonable with the lyrics. Most of the music has been addressing sex, money, drugs, and focused on your ego. Music is focused on how you should your life-style. One quick question WHO DETERMINES HOW AN INDIVIDUAL SHOULD LIVE? My response would be no one, not Halle Berry, Lil’ Wayne or Beyonce. Now who in their right mind would sing music that states “you been wet but I can get you wetter.” Now how degrading is that? WHAT IF THAT WAS YOUR MOTHER, GRANDMA, SISTER, AUNT, OR COUSIN? HOW WOULD YOU FEEL? I know most of you would want to ring out that persons neck. That’s your moms he’s talking about. Are you going to let him do that? BUT THAT’S THE MUSIC YOU LISTEN TO, THE MUSIC YOU SING, THE MUSIC YOU HAVE BLASTING IN YOUR ROOM. I know all music isn’t bad or degrading people, but come on let’s be real. IT’S NOT THAT BEST THING TO DO.

The beginning of being a Senior!

I talk to most Seniors, majority seemed to be very well interested and looking forward to this year. Where it’s happening at? Uplift Community High School. Why is it happening? The event that’s taking place is the CLASS OF 2010 MOVING TO THE BIG STEP WHICH IS COLLEGE! I really want to encourage all the seniors to come out and represent their class of 2010! If you’re a senior its just in your blood. You were meant to come out and kick it with us.

CHRISTOPHER G. MERRICK

Chemistry

What’s wrong with Ms. Phillips? Does she have a life? I don’t think so. Ms. Phillips does way too much. She gives way too much work now for her classes. Especially her honors class. She makes it seem like her honors class is an AP class. She needs to learn the difference. When we do your lab projects she over do everything. She acts like we are scientists with the lab reports. She wants us to be way too detailed. And when we getting our materials she be wanting us to use goggles for everything. We don’t get to take them off until all of our stuff is put away. If we can to class RIGHT when the bell ring. We gone be late because we not in our seats which is crazy and unnecessary. Ms. Phillips needs to realize that we are students in her old college class and that we are still High School and needs to keep it that way

animals get around

ANIMALS GET AROUND

The pitbull many people don’t know how the pitbull got created or how its mean characteristics are mean, bad , strong, and stubborn. The pitbull came from two different dog an American bull master and a bull terrier when this dog both breed the pitbull is created. The is a mutt intel you get two mutts to recreate a full bread and the full bread looks more of a new dog which is now days the common pit. But in the early 1900s when they had horse racing the pitbull was used for protecting farms and horses from any mountain lions or wolfs. But at the same time land owners use to make little ditches were they fougth the dogs for money. This is why one of the reasons why pitbulls are so mean and will turn on you the master. Another reason is because the bull terrier is a very short little stubborn dog that always wants its way. The pitbull shares the same eyes and nose as this dog but pitbulls have big fat heads because the bull master is a veary huge dog and was use for labor purposes. Today is hard to find a full breed pitbull because people like to make their own breeds.

The Real Housewives of Atlanta

On the Real Housewives of Atlanta. Kandi (former member of Escape) she not married. But she was planning on getting married so she was engaged to a man named Aj. He had 6 kids and 4 different baby mamas. He was also married before. Kandi’s mother did not like Aj, because she thought that he was not fit nor the right person for her daughter. The main reasons were because he had many kids and thought that he was after Kandi’s money. Not too long ago Aj got killed outside of a night club. He was beaten to death. It was said that he owned the club. Of course this was tragic to Kandi because she fought for her and Aj’s relationship. All she wants was for her mother to accept him. But then he gets killed. When Aj got killed the show was not on air. It wasn’t really said on how Kandi felt about the situation but you can just picture how she felt. I see the best to the ones who was close to Aj.

Have you ever thought of School as Unfair?

Have you ever thought of school as unfair? Well sometimes school can be unfair, you know those days when you got so many things due on the same day, or maybe you got a test in every class period. Have you ever worked so hard on a paper or something but wasn’t able to type it because you don’t have a computer or may be your computer doesn’t work and you can’t turn it in, then on top of doing it all you don’t even get credit for your hard work. I think I have a solution and it has really worked out for me, all you have to do is tell your teachers in advance about other test you have to take on that day and they will help even if they have to make the test on the next day just to fit it for your personal needs

OPINIONS

My opinions about spirit week is that it was okay. I think we should’ve had better days like pajama day, tacky day, and more days like this. Instead of dull days like dress professional day. Most of the students agreed that these days were boring and want to stick to the normal Uplift traditions and have the regular spirit like we had the last two years.

Jeff Badu's Article and Editorial

Editorial-The Unneccesaries of the U.S.
If I had the opportunity to change somethings in the world, I would change unneccesary classes and the world's economic system. I would change unneccesary classes because I feel that students should be abole to go straight to their major with classes related to their major. For example, I feel that since I want to be an accountant, I should not have to take band or art because it has nothing to do with accounting. I would change the economic system and the way money is distrubuted because most of the money goes more into wars than education. More than four times the money goes into war than education and I feel that it is no fair. Many is the root of all evil and the U.S. is at the bottom. Many countries are poor because of the U.S. and the U.S. needs to stop spending money on unneccesary things.

Article-Boston Celtics
The Boston Celtics won their preseason game on September 18th 2009 against the Toronto Raptors. The leading scorer was Kevin Garnett who had 21 points followed by Ray Allen who had 20 points. The final score was 101-82. So far, the Boston Celtics are 5 and 2 and they are heading into the regular season against the Cleveland Cavaliers. The Boston Celtics are ranked the best team in the eastern conference according to analysists. The Boston Celtics are prepared to have a great year because their best player is coming back off of offseason surgery and they had great additions this offseason. Some of their offseason additions were Rasheed Wallace and Marqius Daniels.

MySchoolYear

My school year was good when it first started off and now it the worst school year I have hade ever in my life. I come to school to learn and having relationships is no problem to me into this year. There is a somebody and they is really driving me crazy and I really don’t know what to do about her because they won’t one thing but they have a strange way of showing like they would lead me on and then later it would be totally different because I understand because right now they are in a relationship and I don’t wont to end it but I think the best way for me to go about it for me just to go about is just for me to leave it alone because its causing a lot of problem because peoples coming back telling me different things and they is also telling them different thing and that’s causing a lot of chaos. I really wont to be with them and I know they feels the same way but they cant and I asked them what they wanted me to do and they said wait so just because I wont it to work out I’m going to do what they told me to do and I’m going to wait just that I could have a better chance to make it happen or to be with them. People are really in my life right now and that’s really driving me crazy and I can’t deal with it but I like them so Im going to make it happen.

THE LATEST AT UPLIFT

Recently Uplift as had spirit week, along with the homecoming game and dance. Most students say the highlight of this week was the prep rally and the dance. The prep rally was very exciting. The best part was when the seniors made the tribute to Michael Jackson. The dance was crackin’. Everybody that came are still talking about it. Those who didn’t are mad because they missed out on a lot of fun.

The day of zombie doom

MORBID, Isopholus, and Behemoth all lived in a cave. They told stories about the
old day of how they lived in Chicago. The year is now 2015. Six years ago there was
a out break plague that possessed individuals that turned them into zombies. They
walked the streets . They ran. They fight with every dead strength that they have.
Isopholus is the leader like a father leading around his off spring. Morbid is a witch
that has the powers such as MEDUSA, and HEMLOCK. BEHEMOTH is a archer that has a
writher to the scream of a arrow. Although Isopholus is the leader, he has the strength
of five men combined. All three of them are now in Iowa located near a corn field
inside of a cave. Morbid starts to mix this potion together, and creates a marvelous
potion named amarth. A body replica of a archer appears. After every 10 seconds
another, and another appears for a hour. Morbid created that category for BEHEMOTH.
Then Morbid mixed another potion but for Isopholus this time.

Heaps of warriors in armor…..just like that…..were born. With the access of
Isopholus’s voice, the warrior’s complied. They each had the combination strength
of two men. Then, finally, MORBID created her own creations. Out of the purple liquid
figures with bodies looked human like but their robes were demonic in the color black.
You could not see their faces. Under the narrow hoods lay a grim reaper appearance.
The figures came in all slim shapes. Not even the world could tell which is boy, or
girl but the creator. Each of them had mystical staffs that can shoot out two spells,
orbs, and runes. It was night time and, the three of them gathered their soldiers
together. Then at that very moment they each heard agonizing yells that would
sound like a leopard yelling away from a long distance. It was a legion of zombies
that came in the 100,000’s.

How a nasty joust of their teeth clenched inside their mouths. The zombies screeched
with a hungry verse such as that of a pack of lions chasing their prey. Isohpolus got
army ready. For his words deemed “They come in the many, but though have a one
tracked mind. We fight with pride, and we shall rise.” With that Isopholus walked
forward out of the cave twenty meters on a hill hence from there he gazed onwards
out into the couple of leagues away where the zombies lurked. They each looked like
narrow little dots like fleas. They were swarming around. They each could run up to
fifteen miles per hour. Simultaneously Behemoth gathered his set of archers on the top
of the cave hence they left from. His words deemed “Archers, we fight with tendencies
higher than that of the enemy…..the zombies. For the staves of our bows will speak for
themselves!” With that, Behemoth held the command for them to fire with a halt until it
was the perfect time to fire. Lastly, Morbid exited the cave with a vastly amount of
phoenixes which were huge as horses. Mounted on each phoenix, the shades that Morbid
had created sat up with that of a pumped chest as king lion heart once had. They each
had staffs of their own ready. Morbid lead her phoenix first twenty meters where
Isopholus was standing with his army of knights. The other phoenixes followed instinct-
ively behind Morbid. They finally got to the foot of the hill where Isopholus, and his
many men stood bravely upright. The men, and Isopholus created a gap in the middle of
the hill for Morbid, and her set to take flight, and with melee men on the left, and melee
men on the right, just like that Isopholus, and his many soldiers shouted such courage
with their voices, words, and armor as though Achilles had just slayed one of his opponents, and at the moment of his slaying his men would cheer for him, and with
that cheer the phoenixes all ran in a single file line up from the middle, and with that,
phoenixes went every direction in the air. Morbid’s eyes turned blood shot looking a
league away ready for the first wave of attack. Morbid sprang words forth saying “
zombies may have strength, but very low mental minds”.

Back on the hill Isopholus dwelled his words…”It is time……god help us. Proceed!!!” said Isopholus, walking towards the battle field with his soldiers mimicking. Behemoth
then called out “Archers!!!...Ready!!!! To The Hill!” They ran to the hill in the hundreds. There was about a good 300 archers set. They arrived at the top of the hill merely seeing Morbid, and her top flight phoenix warriors attach the hungry feigned zombies with just visible orbs from a distance. Then Behemoth saw Isopholus, and his thousand brave warriors proceeding on to the battle field. Isopholus, and his thousand brave warriors were now fifty yards away from the gory battlefield of marching zombies that Morbid created from above. “ Warriorssss!!!!! Rush Them!!!!.”, and with that, Isopholus ran with no remorse, and his thousand warriors ran after him with the same intention to slay the mutilating zombies.

Morbid yelled from above “ ISOPHOLUS!!!, lead your men into different sectors!!!!!”
Morbid ment for Isopholus to tell his men to go diagonal positions but it was too late.
They were charging like ferocious bulls ready with their horns and in just moments of seconds Isopholus was slashing his blade thoroughly with his men following right behind him. TO BE CONTINUED…….

the person that iam reminising the most is my big cusin ernest lomax but know as spanky 4. spanky was my favorite big cusin we been through alot of things together and its hard to kno that he is gone forever and not coming back. everytime i think about him i start to share a tear because i wish i was der in the car to tell him to put on his seat belt and tell da driver to slow down. spanky was my favorite big cusin because growin up together we had so much funny times and times i will n cant never forget and to see him in a casket really hit me because i have never seen him in a suit except for good times and i just broke down to my knees and cried all the way home. i still cry for him almost everday and i just hope he's in the right place doing the right things. R.I.P SPANKY

Ratio of Minorities in Prison

Notice what you see in prison. Whenever someone sees prison on tv or if anyone address it you will see mostly black and latinos as the majority of the Prison population. A large amount of prisoners that you see are colored skin people and that didn't even commit any crimes. If the law was fair then there would be such a difference when it comes to the ratio. If the law did not contradict itself some much and wasn't on Bullshit then we would be able to have a fair system. What gets to me is this also who does the law serve a protect its just seem like they only take a certain group that they really serve and protect. Most of the Police would normally target a neighborhood that is very poor and they know that people of color are in those neighborhoods. If the rules were up to me then the police who are locking up innocent citizens I would step in and fire them and make sure they weren't authorized to get their jobs back.

Diary of a Junior

The life in highschool has alot of different perspectives and point of views. Highschool has its good days and its bad days, it's fun when it wants to be, and sometimes it gets on my nerves. When I was a little kid in elementary achool and middle school I was always scared to get to highschool, I thought it was going to be hard and that I wasn't going to get through. But when I got into highschool it wasn't half as bad as I thought it would be and I'm getting through it way easier then I thought I was. Yeah it's hard, but it's easy once you listen and pay attention. Alot of teenagers take highschool to a whole nother level and they ethier take it seriously or they don't.

Wasted

Teen Drinkin is Very Bad, I got an ID though!(Tipsy by J-kwon) Teen drinking is a reality I feel adult should stop being in denial. Parent-Teen relationships are don't know/ don't care. Most teens that i know don't drink responsibly nor in moderation. They get drunk, wasted, slapped, smacked and busted. Whatever the name for it teens are drinking and whether it is detrimental to their health or not they are going to drink. I believe if teens are to drink it should be in a controlled enviorment. I personally have gotten in the car with a drunken driver, Yeah it was irresponsible on both of our behalfs but I question how come they were drunk and knew their driving wouldn't be impared. Mostly likely becuase they had been doing so for some time teen drinker become INVINSIBLE adults NOT COOL! Once the need to rebel is gone so is need for excess drinking, If the drinking age were lowered to 18 maybe that would eliminate the need for binge drinking.

why you take him???

Please God, tell me why,
Friends have to die and why we have to say good byb

Its not fair and its not right having to fight just to stay away from the light
Oh god, Why some night?

I didn't think life could end so fast,
he was so young his years won't last.

Please god, Tell me why? so hard to say good byb

Maybe life isn't what it seems,
and not all teens get their dreams.

I know we're all meant to someday die,
Still god, I have to ask why?

The Dream

The Dream

In a city name Austin, Texas, there was a family that lived there for seven years. They were the Huntington’s. It was Joe, Samantha, Mary and Marty. Joe and Samantha met in college, while Joe was studying to become a surgeon and Samantha was studying to become Optometrist. They met each other at their class at the medical hall. Samantha was shy and Joe kept trying to get her out of her shadow. He invited her to the homecoming parade and they end up going out, after Samantha friend persuaded her to go out with him. Samantha was a junior in college and Joe was applying for graduate school. They went out for three years and Joe proposed to her at her favorite restaurant. After graduation Joe and Samantha moved into an apartment in Austin for two before getting married and buying their own house.
Mario Reynolds lived in Quebec, Canada for most of his life, but when it was time for college, he picked to leave his hometown and moved to MontrĂ©al, Canada to become an Epidemiologist. He also won a scholarship to play for the Redman’s of McGill University. He wanted to help people out. Deanna lived in Toronto, she participated in swimming since she was five years old; she has won multiple awards and even won two state titles as a junior and senior. She also got a scholarship to be on the Marlet’s swimming team and wanted to become a Physical Therapist; she wanted to help people who had injuries from sports or unwise decision. The hockey team supports the swimming team. One of Mario friend Blake knew Ashley on the swimming team they went to high school together. During spring break, Blake and Ashley went to a cabin and invited Deanna and Mario and they became a couple after that.
Joe and Samantha had their jobs and were enjoying life, but there was something still missing. They didn’t have any kids. Few months later; they had Mary, she was the most beautiful baby they have seen. Marty was really friendly, when she was in the second (2) grade , she welcomed her little brother Marty, he was nine (9) pounds and Mary was happy to have a boy. Joe and Samantha taught their children at an early age to be respectful and polite to others. Mary took ballet lessons at a young age; Marty loved nap time at school. Few years later, Mary was in the 7th grade and Marty was in the 4th grade. Their parents got them whatever they needed and even cleared their schedule to see Mary school plays and Marty football games. Mary wanted to become an actress, so every weekend she would go to the music performance arts center for acting lessons and audition for local company. Marty was different, he wanted to become a professional athlete; he played football, soccer and baseball. He love baseball the most, he won numerous awards for sportsmanship and his performance on the diamond. Mary was excited to begin her junior high school year.
Mario was offered a NHL contract after being drafted by the 3rd (Third) round by the Los Angeles Kings, he and Deanna had to break up. Deanna had to break up. She went to her career and become a Physical Therapist for the world sport injuries company. She got married to her co- worker Larry and they had Susie, she was diagnosed with asthma and intensive care was needed, but she was able to control it using her pump. Mario had a lavish life, he went from one state to another, and he led the rookies in goals and assists and was voted as the rookie of the year. He spent his off season in Canada to visit his family. His family kept bothering him for off spring and one day, he met a lady at the supermarket and she invited him tio goes skiing with her. They went skiing, but Mario skills were rusty and were traveling at a fast pace, he fell and facture his leg bone, t kept swelling until, his team sent him to the world sport injuries company, where Deanna was his therapist.
When Mary entered junior high, she participated in the drama club and was also a cheerleader, her teachers recommended her to the producers of a new show “ Life of a Teenager”, she auditioned but didn’t get the role. She was devastated and wouldn’t talk or eat for numerous days. Marty was having fun, his team won their conference championship and he was voted as the team MVP and got an invitation from “ jimmy carver junior high” to play football. The school was the champions for the past five years and was sending their athletes to the best high school that were known for competing for state titles every season. He was a two-sport athlete; every school wanted him. He was rated as the best running back 0oming out of elementary school. Mary was sent to Canada for therapy and met Susie, Deanna daughter. She and Susie became best friends; they hang out together all summer as Mary therapy was progressing. Susie and Mary were upset when the session was over and Mary had to go back and get ready for school.
As Mario therapy continue, he and Deanna became closer and caught up on old times. Mario kings were in the playoffs and were the number one seed for the Stanley cup. His doctor cleared him for the series against the Toronto Coyotes; he scored nine goals and has five assists on the series. They won the Stanley cup and the team went to the white house to meet president Obama and later went to Disney land to celebrate. Deanna and Larry were having trouble, Larry was caught cheating with a co-worker in Deanna office, she was furious, but still took him back after he apologized. After the Stanley cup celebration, Mario returned to Canada, and she allowed Susie to spend the summer with him in Los Angeles, while she and Larry were trying to fix their marriage in the Bahamas. Mario and Susie had a lot of fun together; he treated her like she was his own child. In the Bahamas, Deanna and Larry had fun in the Bahamas; it was like a second honeymoon as the found the spark that brought them together in the beginning.
When Mary went back home, she took summer classes to catch up on her schoolwork and while walking by the basketball gym. On day, she went in and met Roy, who was on the basketball team. He helped her with her summer work that she didn’t understand. She and Roy became un separated, had classes together and had the same kind of friends, on days that he didn’t have a game, he would be at her drama plays and she would do the same. Mary became pregnant as a junior, but didn’t know how to tell her parents, Roy was scared, because he was offered a scholarship to play basketball for the longhorns and didn’t want the school to find out and take his scholarship away. Mary was confused, she didn’t know whether she should go to the abortion agency or tell her parents and keep the baby. Her friends kept it a secret, so that her little brother wouldn’t found out and tell their parents.
Susie was excited when she met Mickey the mouse at Disney world. It was time for her to go back to Canada and get ready for the next school year. She was excited to tell all of her classmates about her awesome summer. She even got new clothes but couldn’t wear them because the weather in Canada was different from Los Angeles. She wanted to become a physician and often went with her parents to their job on weekend. She spoke with Mary often and learned that Mary had a boyfriend that was on the basketball team and Susie met a boy from the hockey team. They went out a lot and were voted as the school cutest couple. She was a sophomore and he was a junior and planned huge party for her sixteen-birthday party, everyone from the school was invited, Mario came from Los Angeles to celebrate with her. She was the attention of the whole town; even the mayor daughter was invited.

From: "christian house" Add sender to ContactsTo: christianhouse07@yahoo.comIt was about seven o clock in the morning when Kiana woke up to start her day off. Like always she woke up to her mother yelling to her younger brother’s and sister. She stayed in the projects, a three bed room apartment that was the size of a box. Luckily since Kiana was the oldest she got her own room. Kiana was a seven teen year honor student who stood about 5”5, car skin, with long hair all down her back. Around her peers she would act like she had it made but she really struggled. It was hard for her to keep her household together and stay focused on school at the same time. Her mother was on drugs and she didn’t even know her father. Kiana got all of her dreams and goals in her books. She felt like if she could get a scholarship to a school then that would be her way to not live that type of lifestyle anymore. The only person that understood Kiana was her best friend Iyani. Her problems were so similar to Kiana’s, they could write a book together. Iyani was a dark chocolate girl, with hair that feel to her shoulders, that stood about 5”3. She too didn’t know her father. It felt like she didn’t know her mother as well because she was always working. Iyani was the youngest out of five children. She had an older

"Me and My Babies

Gina Jackson is a 33-year-old single mother who has eight children. They lived in the projects of Chicago.
A few years earlier, she gave birth to a set of twins. At that point, of time she did not want any more kids. She already had two kids, two girls. The pregnancy was unexpected. She has a one-night stand with this tall brown-skinned dude from Atlanta. The first thing she thought when went to the doctor and found out that she was pregnant was to get an abortion.
“No, I can’t give my baby away. I'm just going to have to keep it and find another income to support him/her,” said Gina.
“I'm sorry ma’am but you’re having twins so it’s seems as if you’re going to need two more jobs,” said the doctor.
“What do you mean twins? What am I going to do? I got two shorties already,” said Gina.
“Well I don’t know ma’am talk it up with your babies’ father,” said the doctor.
“I don’t…never mind. Thanks for your entire help doc,” said Gina.
Gina walked out crying. Many people keep asking if something was wrong with her, and if she needs some help. Gina kept asking God why her. If she was being punished for something.
“Baby, what’s wrong? Mrs. Johnson told me that she saw you at the bus stop and you were going through a little something,” said Gina’s mother.
“Mama you are not going to believe this. I’m pregnant…,” said Gina.
“What?” said Gina’s mother.
“With twins,” said Gina.
“O my God baby. How did this happen?” said Gina’s mother.
“Mama, it was a little quickie with some out of town dude,” said Gina.
“What you mean? For what? I am lost. I don’t understand please explain,” said Gina’s mother.
“I don’t want to talk about it right now. But I got to go. Bye,” said Gina.
“No, you don’t have to go nowhere. We need to talk,” said Gina’s mother.
Gina hung up the phone with her mother, went to her room, and cried for two hours straight. She hurried up and tried to clean her face up because her children were on their way home.
“Wow I need to get myself together because I don’t need to let my babies see me down,” Gina said to herself.
She went downstairs to the kitchen to fix her kids something to eat.
About 30 minutes later Keisha and Moonie came in the door arguing.
“Hold on and wait a minute. Take that mess back out the door because I don’t have time for that non-sense,” said Gina.
“No Ma she was acting like she my mama and I know she older than me in front of everybody,” said Moonie.
“No Ma she was being all fast and shit. All up in some popped ass little boy face,” said Nesha.
“Moonie, what I tell you about that you have to be classy, not trashy. Don’t just act like a lady be a lady,” said Gina.
“But Ma,” said Moonie.
“But Ma, my ass. Now get upstairs and do your homework,” yelled Gina.
Nesha and Moonie both ran upstairs because they knew Mama was not playing. They knew that it was something wrong with their mother. They could just hear it in her voice. Any other time Mama would have beaten the brakes off them if she heard they were being fast. However, this time around she was very mellow.
“Man, I wonder what’s up wit Ma,” said Nesha.
“Yes because something just not right about her and I cant quite put my hands on it. But trust me I will,” said Moonie.
Moonie was the youngest out of the two. She is 14 years old. Moonie is the nosiest one too. She always up to something or into something.
Nesha was the bad one who fought all the time. She always was suspended from school for fighting. Many times, it would be because of Moonie because she has a mouth on her. Nesha is 16 years old.
“See if you didn’t come home telling Mama what I was doing. Then it would not have brung more stress on her. But NO you have to open your big mouth and say something,” said Moonie
“Don’t try to put this on me. This doesn’t have anything to do with me,” said Nesha.
“Now I feel all bad and shit,” said Moonie.
Nesha and Moonie went downstairs to go eat what Mama cooked. They went down the stairs quietly. They did not want to do anything else to tick Mama off.
“So, how was school today?” asked Mama.
“Well nothing much I did all my work today and didn’t get into any trouble for talking,” exclaimed Moonie.
“And Ma I didn’t get into it with nobody,” said Nesha.
“That’s good my babies doing well in school. I’m proud of both of you’ll,” said Gina.
Nesha and Moonie both looked at each other, because they both knew they were lying. They had phony smiles on their faces. Nesha got into an argument with some girl at lunch and slapped the hell out of her. But she didn’t get in trouble because it was no teachers around.
Moonie got kicked out of her classroom for talking back to the teacher and talking during a test. The teacher did not bother calling home because nothing is being done by doing that.
Gina went upstairs and left the girls downstairs at the table.
“Man, what Mama don’t know wont hurt her,” said Moonie silently.
“I know right. But I needs to know what’s up with her,” said Nesha.
Upstairs Gina was watching TV trying not to think about it. She cried so loudly that she had to go to the bathroom and cry her eyes out.
“Lord, what am I going to do? My babies are already spoiled and TWO more kids are not going to work out. I need to figure out me a plan before I have my life ruined.
Gina went to her dresser draw, pulled out her dairy, and began writing about the information that he considered terrible information. Terrible thoughts started going through her head. Now my children are not going to love me anymore. They just might run away from me, I do not want them to feel left out if I do decide to keep these kids. Or maybe I could just give one of them away and keep the other.
Gina picks up the phone to call her best friend Wookie.
“What’s good Wookie Boo?” exclaimed Gina.
“Nothing much, these damn kids steady breaking shit. Twan got kicked out of school so I got to search for a new one for him,” said Wookie.
Wookie and Gina have been best friends since 7th grade. Wookie had four kids with drug dealers. But unlike Gina she knew who her baby daddies was.
“Gina, he threw a chair at the teacher because she told him he wasn’t gone make it nowhere in life, and he was gone end up like his daddy. In jail,” cried Wookie.
“Well dang, she needs her ass beat and that’s on my daddy,” yelled Gina.
“Girl, that’s why he got kicked out his I went up there and beat the dog stuff out of her. She was kicked out the school too but she also got a trip to the hospital. They told us that we causing too much attention to the school and Twan is no longer enrolled,” explained Wookie.
“Well you can send him to Moonie and Nesha school over here,” said Gina.
“Okay but what’s new with you chick?” asked Wookie.
“Wookie Ma, I’m pregnant,” said Gina.
“How that happen man?” asked Wookie.
“I can’t tell you right now. I have not told Moonie and Nesha so do not say anything. But I told my mother about it,” said Gina.
“Well girl, you know I’m here for you no matter what happens. I got your back,” said Wookie.
“Alright girl, I got to go now. I’ll talk to you later,” said Gina.
Gina hung up the phone. She was thinking that it was time for her to tell her kids,
“Moonie and Nesha come here. We got to talk,” yelled Gina.
Nesha and Moonie ran upstairs thinking they were caught in their lie.
“Yes Mama,” yelled Nesha and Moonie.
“I need to tell you something. I do not want you to be upset with me. I still haven’t made a final decision,” cried out Gina.
“What it is Ma?” asked them both.
“I’m pregnant,” said Gina with hesitation.
“For real. Dang since when?” asked Moonie.
“I’m almost two months now,” said Gina with a smile.
“Omg Ma, what you having? Who it’s by?” asked Nesha.
“I don’t know what it is yet. I didn’t plan on keeping it because I didn’t know how you would react to it,” explained Gina.
“Now Mama, why do you think that? I want another sibling other than Moonie bald head self,” said Nesha with a smile.
“But Im not just having one Im having twins,” said Gina.
“Ok but you still aint tell us who the daddy is,” said Moonie.
“Well it was with this man out of town. It was a one-night stand. And it was for money,” said Gina.
“DAMN Mama it’s like that? What you need the money for?” asked Nesha.
“I couldn’t make ends meet for the rent,” said Gina.
“Well at least it wasn’t for any drugs or nothing,” said Moonie.
Sarah White
Period 8
Lavita Jones

My name is Lavita Jones and I’m a homeless teen who has had a lot of struggles. I have been trough a lot in my life. Now I’m a Harvard student who has student who has a job working at a newspaper. If you want to know how I got this way. If your mad that a homeless person made it this far and not you. I will tell you I’m hard working and determine. It wasn’t always that way though I remember a time when I was young and I couldn’t get any food I had to dig in the garbage can. My childhood was the most horrible childhood a child can even imagine. My mother and father were both crack heads. They worried more about getting their next hit than putting clothes on my back and shoes on my feet. I and my old sister Lisa had to fin for ourselves. We had to steal clothes and food just to survive. I hated the fact that we could even wash up in the morning because we didn’t have any water because whenever my dad use to come up own some money him and my mom just smoked it up. We stayed in this like crack house were mostly crack heads and homeless people lived. Me And my sister are two totally different people. She loved going to school and getting an education but I hated waling into school smelling like old dirty people. That’s why I never went I stayed home taking care of my mother. I loved my mother dearly even though she would get violent with me when she smoked crack. I still tried to help her out by cleaning the house washing the dishes just trying to make the place look good so that the DCFS wouldn’t take me and my sister away. It was this one old homeless lady that stayed across from us. One day she was looking threw the garbage and found two whole sets of encyclopedia. Which was the greatest gift I had ever gotten this gift was the start of a new chapter in my horrible life. When I got my books I just couldn’t stop reading. That’s all I did was read it was so interesting. I just never could go to school and whenever I went I would always come on test days and every test I would past. The stuff was easy because I read and everything that we were tested on I read about. I was a smart kid but I just didn’t like going to school because I was scared to come home and find my mother dead of overdose. That’s why I stayed home and my sister would always get mad at me because I would never go she would always tell me that the people were going to take me if didn’t go. Every time she would say that I went. One day I went and my teacher told me not to take the test because I wasn’t here to know what the test was about. I told her that I could take it anyway. After class she stopped me and asked me why I haven’t been coming to school like my sister. I just wanted to tell her to mind her own damn shit and stay out of mine but I didn’t I just I had family issues. She told me not to take her next comment as a threat she told me to take it as a promise. She told me that if I wouldn’t start coming to school that he would call DCFS on my mother so that they could take me away. Then she handed me a bag of clothes and told me to keep my head up. I was thinking how I could keep my head up when my life kept bringing me down I mean it was impossible. I did take the words to heart that she said about calling the peoples on me. The last thing I wanted to do was go to a group home and be away from my mom. I tried going to school but if I didn’t really work out. My mother needed me and I was going to help her no ifs ands or buts about it. My teacher did call DCFS and they came to my house but they gave me a warning. A few weeks later my mom came home more messed up than usual. She was completely gone I mean she didn’t even know me. She came in screaming, “Who da fuck are you and where’s my daughter.” I started to tell her that I was her daughter but I knew that it wouldn’t matter. She started tossing thing around saying things like, “You people don’t know I will kill all of you.” I was in the corner crying my eyes out because I couldn’t help the drugs had taken my mother and I wanted her back. I tried to calm her down so I got up to get her and she hit me with a pot in my head and I was knocked out for about an hour. When I woke up the police was at my house and DCFS they took my mother away and I was alone not knowing what to do. I sat in her chair smelling the secant trying to remember the good days that we had together. A few months later I was walking on the streets wondering what my mother was doing. When I came home she was sitting in her chair the chair that I had sat and cried in for the past few months. I always loved it when my mother when see was out of rehab. She was the mother any little girl could want. While we were sitting their talking and laughing she looked kind of troubled. I wanted to know what was wrong so I asked her even though I knew it was going to be something bad I wanted to know anyway. “Mom what’s wrong.” “Nothing baby I’m find but there is something that I have to tell you.” “What is it mom.” “I have to move back in with my dad.” I was shocked because her dad treated her and my ant so badly and I wanted to know why. I knew the next words were going to be bad but I wanted to know anyway. She told me that she had aids and I started to cry my eyes out I didn’t want her to die like that. She tried to comfort me but I knew that after that things wouldn’t’ be the same. My mom and my older sister left and went to ma so called grandfathers house I didn’t go because he was such a cruel person and I hated what he did to my mom. I hate everyone that hurts her I want them dead. When she left I really wasn’t going to school. My teacher called DCFS again this time they came and there wasn’t anyone at the house my dad had gone out to get some food. They stormed in talking about why I haven’t been going to school I couldn’t even answer them I was stuck. Then ma dad walked in with the food they pulled him outside and was talking to him for about 35 minutes. When they came back in they told me to pack my bags and come with them. I was kicking and screaming I didn’t want to go but they made and my dad couldn’t do anything but shoot up. I was so mad at myself for not going with my mother now I had to live in a group home away from my family the people that I loved the most in the whole world. I hated that but I guess it had to be that way.
