THE LIGHT AHEAD OF ME

Western Expansion

It was the strangest thing I have ever seen, with tubes and wires. I was a little boy, when I read about the expansion westward. I was curious; I didn’t know what was happening before my eyes. I asked my teacher at school and she said that she had no clue what was going on. When I got home, I asked my dad and he said we are just trying to make the country bigger and there are some people trying to stop us? We have tried our best to come to an agreement, but they don’t want to give us what belongs to us. I saw on the news, many people traveling with tubes, wires, guns and their family’s. I thought that we had to move also, nut daddy assured me that we were going to stay in Dover, Delaware. I heard from one of my friends that there was a man jailed for not paying his taxes, I didn’t know paying your taxes was a law. I believed his name was David Thoreau, my freinds brought the newspaper “Daily Herald” to me and I saw the article when David is being interviewed. He talks about the unlawful actions that the united sates does everywhere. David talks about the idea of manifest destiny and civil disobedience. A concept that the united states were asks by God to conquer all the territories west and civilize the tribes that were presumed to be uncivilized and without the knowledge of the supreme faith. He says hat he is tired of the unnecessary war like the war against Mexico and war againast the Native Americans. He is tired of the way the un9ted states are treating many people and countries. I got inspired by him and talked to my dad about him, but he say David is just trying to get attention. I went to sleep wondering about the concept of civil disobedience.

The cat that did not meow!
Hunting every night for rats in the allies, she became the best hunter, catching most of the meals by herself. No matter how big and strong she was, there was one thing she was not able to do. She could not communicate like the rest of her family. They would meow and meow all day and night. She would open her mouth, but no sound would come out. Till one day, animal patrol came and tried to catch her mother and siblings. She jumped out of a garbage can and opened her mouth and gave a big roar. This scared the men and made them run back where they came from. Now every night when you hear meows from outside, you’ll hear a big roar sounding like a lion.
P.S. The cat is a lion.

A letter to that man
When Ce-Ce was nine her father went to jail for picking up his friends Don and Steve, after they robbed a house on 47th and King Drive. He really didn’t know of any of these things until he got pulled over by the police. They took him to jai, and because he had a rap sheet as long as an invitation list to a party, they gave him eight years. Now this man doesn’t know anything about her and her life because of his time in jail. She never wrote him or went to see him, she just didn’t care anymore.
“ Man ma you know your baby daddy Buford get out of tomorrow, and my grandma want me to go with her to get him. I guess she going to be going by herself because I don’t even know that man.” Said Ce-Ce
“Well, you don’t have to go I’ll talk to her if you want me to.” Said Brenda Ce-Ce’s mom.
“Okay mom would you please because I really don’t want to go.” Is what she said as she leaves out to go to school.
Ever since Ce-Ce was a kid she loved her father and no body could tell her nothing wrong. She still loved her father very much but she couldn’t understand why he hadn’t made an effort to talk to her. Now Buford has been at home for two years and over these years he has denied Ce-Ce as ever being his daughter four times, he has also whopped her, cursed her out, and called her out of her name a couple of times. He never want to spend time with her unless he has some money, so when he broke he don’t even answer. At this point Ce-Ce has not given up on him, but she wants to tell him how she really feels, so she writes a letter telling him what on her mind.
Dear daddy,
I has come to my attention that you never answer the phone for me when I call. You never come get me and take me places like you do those little kids that are your friends kids that call you uncle B. I’m really getting to there point of hating you because you ignore me. My mom always struggles to take care of me and my sisters but luckily grandma helps out when she ever she can. I know you sell drugs so you got to have money. I really hate when we go to family events and you come around like every thing is good. It seems like everyone knows this but you, even your own sister don’t talk to you because the way you do me. I really hope that you take this and make it better.
Love Always,
Ce-Ce Harris
it cant be true
It was one of those days when everything seemed to go wrong.
“Ring, ring, ring” the noise of Mona’s phone woke her up.
“Hello,” Mona answered.
“Girl you still in the bed? Get up! Now you gon’ be late,” Shanti told her. Mona rolled out of bed, rushing to the bath room, as she thought to herself “dang, I’m starting the day off wrong already”.
School had went by so slow today for Mona, even though she got to school third period. Everyday after school Mona would normally go to her boyfriend’s house, but today she had an appointment at the clinic. This was Mona’s second time going to the clinic because she was afraid she was pregnant. Mona always thought about how her life would be if she were to have kids by Robert. All she could say was that they would be fine. Mona was 5”2, carmel skin, with black hair to her back. She had a swagg that was on point, and all the females wanted to be her. Robert was 5”6, light skin, with hazel eyes, and a smile that could light up the room. They’ve been together two years, and they were perfect for each other.
“Hey babe, you ready?” Mona asked Robert.
“I’m sorry boo, I cant go with you. I have to watch my brothers. I’m sure you aint pregnant tho’. Its proly a mistake like last time,” Robert replied.
“You know I wouldn’t mind having your baby tho’. You’re my man and I love you”.
“Okay, call me when you get out”.
The whole time Mona was at the clinic, all she could think about was how Rob didn’t say he loved her back. “Maybe I’m trippin’”. She didn’t like to trip on him a lot because she didn’t want to push him away.
“Girl I just left the clinic,” Mona expressed to Shanti.
“You were in there forever and a day” Shanti joked.
“Yea, but where you at? What’s all that noise?”
“Girl my brothers, but Imma call you lata,” Shanti hung up the phone so fast she had Mona worried.
“DANG, she must be busy, she didn’t even ask if I was pregnant or not”.
At the bus stop Mona decided she would do a surprise visit by Rob’s house, so she can see his expression when he heard the news. As she knocked on the door, her hands began to sweat. She was nervous and excited at the same time. Rob’s brother Maurice answered the door. He looked surprised and just stood there.
“Are you gonna let me in?” Mona asked as she pushed through the door, and laughed. “Where is Rob?”
“Umm…he’s in the back, but wait here,” Maurice responded
The Next Day of My Life
“I can’t stand him,” yelled Pooh.
“Why?” questioned Mariah.
As Pooh was getting ready to explain and Jason walked past with his new girl on his arm.
“This is what I’m talking about. He is always doing too much just to make me mad,” said Pooh.
“Pooh, calm down. It’s gone be okay,” explained Mariah.
“No, you just don’t understand. I’m pregnant with Jason’s baby and he doesn’t want anything to do with me or the baby,” said Pooh.
“What the hell you mean he doesn’t want anything to do with you all? You didn’t lie down and make the baby self, so he has a part in this as well. Hold on he is going to have a change of heart once I finish talking to him,” said Mariah with aggression.
“No, don’t do that. Just leave him alone, because I don’t even know if I want it. This my junior year and I don’t want to ruin my life with a baby at this age,” said Pooh.
“Okay I understand what you saying now. Just be sure this is what you want to do,” explained Mariah.
“I’m going to go tomorrow to end this. Are you going to go with me? You know I can’t do this by myself,” cried out Pooh.
“Girl, you know I got your back. But did you tell Jason about this?” asked Mariah.
“Yes I did. He is happy about and said you probably can get back together now that I’m ending a life of ours,” said Pooh.
“HE is beyond a dog. That doesn’t make any sense. Don’t go back to him girl. He is not worth it,” said Mariah.
“I’m not but let’s get to class,” said Pooh.
The next day came and Pooh and Mariah was at the hospital. Pooh’s name gets called. Right when Pooh was getting out her seat, Jason walked through the door.
“Pooh! Wait baby don’t do it. I got to ask you something as well,” yelled Jason.
“What do you want? You said you wanted nothing to do with this. So go away,” said Pooh.
“No, baby I want you to marry me. I was being dumb, and my mama told me what’s real and its being with you,” explained Jason.
“Omg you can not be doing this. I can not be with you, Jason I have to go,” said Pooh.
She walked through the doors and Jason dropped to his knees.
Losing Debo
My hand trembled as I punched the number into the phone. I had just got the news that my cousin had been in an accident. The only thing I could think about was if he was okay? My aunt called my phone in total shock. The way she yelled and screamed shook my entire family, as we awaited the news to see if he would pull through or not. He didn’t. That’s when I dropped the phone and couldn’t breathe, think, or even cry. My heart felt like it had just been ripped out. While my older cousin sat there describing how graphic the accident was. He explained how the grand prix had been split in half and how their body parts and blood everywhere. The only thing I could do was cry. My cousin Debo was like my best friend and God had called him home so soon. I just went my cousin to know that he may be gone, but he’s never forgotten.
Don Of The Morning
The lane was night-dark, event at noon. Walking in the shadows of death, hoping for savior. I hoped Jesus was answering my prayers because I was about to commit the greatest sin of all. Sometimes I just sit down and wonder if theirs an actual heaven. But never in my life I will picture my self here, but hey I am here and all I can hear was a lion saying; “holy, holy, holy, holy…” This only gave me hope but no answer. Now I am getting angry and the snake was following me with its sharp high pitch. I turned around and the God from this kingdom saw me and said all of this can be yours if you stay here. Their plenty of girls, money, and every thing was made of gold, and everyone knew you. It sounded like a good deal but I had to say no. So the lion said; “you” I said me, the lion nodded I walk into the light and the same things were offered and I took the offer. Same deal only their was light and I was the king of the throne and ran this world, but guess what the lion was the same person who was the God of the dark world and I became him through the power mind and influence of others. So to whom do we all worship because if you do not know you might be stuck in the same situation as me. But I did make a wise choice because at least I know the truth compare to European lies created by man I worship Horus The Sun, I am the dawn of the morning the Sun who brings life to all. Jesus is Horus but Horus was first remember that.
Just When I Thought It Couldn’t Get Worse
It was one of those days when everything seemed to go wrong. My car was broke, I had just lost my job and to top it all off my mortgage was due at the begging of the month. I always wanted to do things the right way, work my way to the top, but now it seems as if the night way has gotten me back to square one. I used to hustle on the streets that are how I got my work ethic. The good thing about hustling is if you leave it, there’s always a chance that you can come back. I had nothing to lose, and everything to gain. I went to see my brother Travis to get me some Doup.
My life flashed before my eyes.....
Just then, one of the men snatched the phone out my hand, and searched through my contacts. “Found it!” the man shouted. “Now we have progress. But wait, who’s going to get on the phone, sounding like his wife.” The man about six feet tall shouted with fear, “I don’t know but I will think of something, put her in the truck.” All I could do was scream for my life, and try to break free, but the man had a good grip of my clothing. Just as they tried to put me into the van, the police pulled up and all the men jumped into the van, and drove off. I couldn’t even explain what was going on, but worst of all; I couldn’t identify at least one man.

It was the strangest thing I had ever seen, with tubes and wires; I was so young then I think I was only four. My grandmother was in a bed; the only things I could remember was now bright the lights were, and the machines were all over the place. The place was huge, I mean it held a lot of rooms. I remember my grandmothers room number was 829. My grandmother was woman who was always filled with joy, nothing but positive things to say. The last thing I heard my grandmother say is “I love you baby, just walk with God and He’ll never let you go.
Soon everything became ambiguous to me; I saw my grandmother laying in a nice box. I said to my father is grandma sleep, why isn’t she getting up. I knew my grandmother hated when we turned on the lights while she was trying to sleep. While my grandmother was laying in the box, most of my family members were crying. I thought to myself that she was only sleeping, but that was not the case.
My grandmother was sleeping, and little did I know she never walking up. My granny was up in the sky, she was with Jesus. The place and the strangest thing I had ever seen, with tubes wires was a place called a hospital. I thought to myself I never want to go back there again, because it was the place were my grandmother had the tubes and the wires.

DEAD NIGHT PART 1

When Matthew awoke his head was pounding he noticed that he was bound to a chair. All of a sudden he heard a voice “well well well look who finally decided to wake up I was afraid I killed you for a second”. “Tobias is that you ?” “whats this all about ?” I hope this isn’t about well…u know” replied Matthew. Tobias came out of the shadows “of course it is matt and u know it. Several years ago about their senior year of high school Matthew had outed Tobias as a bisexual causing the love of his life to leavehim it also didn’t help that she was married to Matthew. “so this is your idea of revenge Tobias im sorry about wat happened but your takin this a bit to far”. “ nope I think im handling it perfectly and so the torture begins.
" What is your problem," said Sheka.
" I don't have a problem, that's you your the one running around town acting like a big slut," Ron said.
"Aw for real well this slut pays all the bills in this house," Sheka said.
"You guys really need to stop arguing because this is getting too crazy for me," Meka said.
"Alright we will finish this later," Ron said.
The four of us was always so tight nothing nothing could break us apart. We did every thing together and nothing without each other. Me, Sheka,Ron,and Ladell we were the best of friends. Well I'm meks short for Jameka I'm a doctor at an mental hospital. Sheka is an hair dresser at Shekas & Ritas beauty shop. Ron was an great stock share holder until he lost it all. Ladell is also a doctor. These three people help my life become complete. I don't know how we aren't the way we use to be back in the good old days, I think it's because were are couples now. Well me and Dell's relationship is going just find but Ron's and Sheka's not so well. Their arguements get worse and worse every time Dell and I come over. Like two weeks ago I had to call the police to stop Ron from killing Sheka. At first they were the couple that did everything together. I mean they could keep their hands off each other. Which was crazy because Dell and i didn't like each other at first, but now we are closer than ever. I told Sheka to stop being so angry with Ron because it will end up bad. Well a few weeks later they had an arguement and Ron killed Sheka because he found out that she was cheating on him.
Snake the Coward
It was one of those days when everything seemed to go wrong. There were three boys name Snake, Ghost, and Don. Ghost had a brand new phone that he loved so much and Snake admired the phone a lot. Don was a smart kid who just did the right things for the right people. Don was eating lunch and Ghost gave him the phone to activate it for him. After Don gave Ghost back the phone, Ghost was very happy and the two boys walked away peacefully. Snake decided to mess up the two happy boys’ day by stealing the phone from Ghost and blaming it on Don. Snake fed Ghost a ton of lies about Don taking Ghost’s phone and Snake knew that he was telling lies all along. Don got very angry and beat Snake up and Ghost was finally able to get his beloved phone back. Don did not get into any trouble because the police found out that Snake was lying all along and everyone now knew why Snake was a coward.

HIGH
I didn't mean to break his heart, I was so in love I lost feeling. So wrapped up in him I was a drug he was dealing. I went numb. Now i sit here and stare as he sits there on his mother's plastic covered couch slouched. He sits there shattered into a million pieces attempting to find his self at the bottom of a liqour bottle. I didn't tell him to loose his self, I knew better. I knew better than to get HIGH off my own supply.
Euphoric notions turned into deep devotion. Thier love was potent. As the on looker I knew it was a tad to strong. It was like watching atrain wreck, I watched bad go wrong. Now she's there feeling sorry and he sits there numb and love is to blame for what they've become.

It is important to the entire world that Janie found other people, they find her because Janie self awareness depends on her increased awareness of others. The more you learn about others you also learn things about yourself. It’s important that Janie learn about herself because she wants to know where her status is with others when she compares herself. How you know that you and other people have something in common is because when you start talking to that person lives then look at you as that person. Then you can think back about yourself and what you think you and that person have in common. For example lik me what i think me and my friends have in common is that our attitude is something same talk a lot and act goffie etc. but whats different is our personality and how we carry ourself also.

Mark Damien High School
“Happy Birthday baby girl” said Joe “Thank You Joe did you get me a gift.” “I actually got you 2 gifts one you can get now and the other one you have 2 wait until your mom goes to work tonight.” “Ok so where is my gift for now” Joe reaches behind the couch and gives her a box and he tells her open it. “How did you know I wanted a new leather jacket with my name on it?” She asks him and he laughs saying “that’s what you asked for on your Christmas list last week do you not remember.” “Aw yeah I almost forgot I didn’t get that I was going to ask mom about that but thank you so much.” She walks up to him and gives him a hug and he grabs her butt and she asks “why would you do that Joe.” And he says I m so sorry baby I forgot I thought you were your mom because you have on her perfume.” “Ok that’s fine but please don’t do it again.” She said kind of confused.
“Okay honey I’m on my way to work goodnight and I love you.” Is the last thing Alex said to Brianna that night. “Okay mom I’ll see you later luv ya.” “Are you ready for you next gift that I told you about earlier?” Joe asked her “Yeah where is it.” She asked “go upstairs and get in the shower and I’ll be up there in a little while.” “Ok Joe I’ll be out in 15minutes.” As she runs up the stairs Joe follows behind her and goes into the room he shares with Alex and turn on the T.V. and he watches videos until he hears the shower water turn off. While she is getting ready to get out of the shower he steps in and uses the bathroom right in front of her. “Joe what are you doing “she asks him. “ I had to use the bathroom and I couldn’t wait I had to go so bad.” He tells her. “Ok but I don’t have any clothes on and you are using the bathroom while im in here are you suppose to be doing that since im not your girlfriend.” “It is ok because I’m your daddy now.” “I’m just going to ask mom when she gets home.” “Don’t ask her that because if you do than she is going to be mad because you didn’t believe me.” “Ok than I won’t ask.” Then Brianna gets her things and goes into her room she is still naked and is changing her sheet on her bed because her mom was doing laundry in the morning, when Joe walks in and now he doesn’t have on any clothes. “What are you doing in here with no clothes on.” “I came to help you and to make you fell comfortable I just took off my clothes since you didn’t put on your clothes yet but if you want me to leave then I will.” “Yes can you please leave because I don’t feel comfortable with you in here.” Joe makes it seem like he’s backing away to leave when all of a sudden he turns off the lights and grab Brianna and put her in the bed, as she is screaming he tells her to shut up and he begins to rape her. When he is done he asks her “Did you enjoy your birthday present.” And then he gets up and leaves with her laying there crying in her blood.
When she comes back to reality Monica says “Well the bell is about to ring for 8th period meet me by my car it’s in parking lot C.” “Okay I will but I don’t want to go home anytime soon, would you ask Carla to let me stay with yal for a little while. But could you please not tell her what’s going on yet because I don’t want her to call my mother.” “Ok girl you know my momma won’t mind at all if you stay over.” Monica says as she runs to class. As Monica sat through her 8th period class she couldn’t help but worry if her friend was pregnant by that rapist Joe. “Hey girl what took you so long to get here? I know you didn’t get lost.” said Monica “I’m so sick I don’t know what’s going on I was in the bathroom throwing up since I left you in the hallway.” “Damn are you ok now? Can I take you to the Hospital or something?” Monica asked shocked at what her friend just told her. “I don’t want to but I need to know what’s going on so yeah but don’t tell anyone what’s going on please.” “But what should I tell my mom when she asks where I am?” “Just tell her that we are going to the doctor for a sport’s physical or something.” “Ok that will work let’s go.”
“Brianna Jackson “said Doctor Smith as he came out of the back room. “That’s me” Brianna says as she puts her magazine down and gets up. “Do you want me to come in there with you?” Monica asks Brianna. “Yeah let’s go.” Excuse me Ms. Jackson. said the doctor. “I’m sorry here we come.” she says.
“Ok Ms. Jackson what’s going on here.” asked the doctor. “Well I haven’t been feeling well for the past 3 weeks and I was afaid to come but my friend insisted that I come.
The next man to widen her horizon in a small way was the man her grandma set her up with. He showed her hard work and how to do things on her own. He showed by making her do everything he does himself every day. That was something she found later but knew how to take care of herself at the end.
The next man is the mayor who showed her something that she didn’t want to see. He showed her that they’re bad men behind the gifts and those men with money needs something to make their world perfect and she didn’t want to be that something.
Last there is tea cake the smooth talking young fellow who has a little gambling problem. Her and tea cake was good to each but wasn’t good for each other. Tea cake showed her what love really was but the price of that lesson was too great for Janie and the people of town. They knew that they shouldn’t of been together but they couldn’t do anything because it was her life. Because of that life she’s been through bad lessons and good lessons come from the men she’s been with. In the end she was blissful and at peace with herself and her life she seemed that she learned what she had to learn.

The Struggle.......
Author: Lorrae Richardson
Illustrator: Google
Prologue:
I don’t really know when I was born. My father never returned from war when my mother was pregnant with me, And my mom died while having me. I grew up with my brother and sister. My brother is 1 year older than me, and my sister is two years older than him. We had to live on our own. I was sold as a slave to a white man named Robert Jr. at the age of nine years old. My brother, sister, and I were separated when I was five years old. Growing up in Mississippi was hard. I had to get up before sun rise to go pick cotton until the sun went down. By the time I turned 13, I had cuts and wipes all over my body. By the time I was fifteen, I was raped for the first time. I took it harder than you think, because I had no mother or sister to turn to, and tell me that it’s gonna be ok. I told my self that I’m gonna escape and become a free women. Well I did, but it took me nine years. I was 22 years old when Robert Jr. died and all his slaves were released. I traveled and traveled until I was free. I had a child the next year, lil old Sarah. We had to live in a shelter for three years. Once our time was up for living there, we needed to find a new destination. We final moved to Chicago in 1998. My child was almost four years old, and all ready she’s experiencing the struggle I went through. I let her understand the way life was down south at the time, and how it’s still that way. She was too young to understand everything, but she knows when some one has been treated wrong. By the time Sarah was sixteen, I had my first job. The government seen that the unemployment rate was too high, so he did something about it. Finally my struggling was over and my progress was beginning!!!!
Chapter One
“By passing my struggle”
Should I really call my childhood the struggle? Or the way of LIFE!! I mean during 1962, every body had it hard. Even the white folks. Every were round the United States, there was slavery, violence, and money problems. No body had it good. You needed to have faith in yourself, that you were gonna make it out of slavery, and the poorness. If you had that, then yo dreams came true. Really you didn’t need tha pretty car, or the big house to become successful. Once I had Sarah, my whole life changed. She made me realize that no one is gonna wait on me hand and foot. What every I wanted, I needed to take it!
I want Sarah to grow wealthy, and attend school. I never went to school when I was younger. I want my child to have the best of life! Sarah thinks that I’m happy bout the way life’s going for me. Well at least I’m happy now, but growing up. It was hard. I try to keep my real feelings inside of me, and show happiness on the out side. Don’t get me wrong now, I love Sarah, and the life I have now, but she doesn’t need to know what I’ve been through. She doesn’t need to know that I’ve been beaten, and rapped. Or the fact that I had cuts and wipes all over me from slavery and picking cotton. I felt like she was going to feel sorry for me, and keep on say “I’m sorry momma, I’m so sorry.” Like it’s her fault, and which she had nothing to do with it. But at the end of the day I forget about my past, and realize what a great future I have for myself!
Chapter Two
“The melt down”
I walk in the house and all I could hear is my mom crying and saying, “Why me lord? What did she ever do to you?” As I’m running in the house I’m screaming “What? What? What happened? Momma did we lose the apartment?” But nothing came out, she needed to catch her breath and calm down. By the time she was able to speak, she finally told me what was wrong with her. Her sister who was separated from her, died from AIDS. My mom and she were really close when my grandma had died. My mom was telling me that her life was all wrong. “I didn’t even know her dat long.” I had to calm her down. “Well at least you knew somebody. I don’t have any grandma’s, grandpas, uncles, aunties, or cousins. I don’t have any body.” Cried Sarah. “But you have me, you have me baby.”
Long Live Gudda
Dustin Aytch
Winfrey 8th
This story takes place on Chicago’s Southside. There were three boys named Dee, Gudda, and Cheese they were part of a clique called Young Money. One day when they were coming from school they saw a boy named Maul who was a part of a different and also rival gang called Brick Squad. Dee screams out to their rival gang member “what’s up with you Maul what you trying do now”. Maul see’s the 3 guys and takes off running up the 43rd st. strip. Once Maul made it to the safe mark territory he began to slow down and he taunted and said things to the Young Money members. Chesse was real paranoid about the southside because he wasn’t from out there and the only reason that they even did travel to the southside was because Gudda had to make a run out there to get something from his girl friend’s house. After, police began to come because of the commotion many people began to move around and they headed towards the 43rd st. Green line stop so they could get on the train and head back to the city’s Westside. When they made it to the station they saw a black altima which every knew that Maul had drove around the city. He was parked outside of the liquor store letting everyone know what he had just got into with the Young Money clique. Dee said lets just walk pass low key and they wont see us so as they were walking into the station the light outside of it gae them away and maul saw them. He yelled to his goons to bust at they ass and they took off pass the guards and hopped staright over the gate to the train and then shots rang out all thru the 43rd st. quiet night. Dee and Cheese were up the stairs by the time the first 3 gat off but they couldn’t find Gudda so they were starting to get worried about what had happened to him or if he got caught by the guard . The train was pulling into the station when they saw Gudda coming up the elevator. Dee calls out yo where you was ta man stop fucking around man you trippin what if they would have got yo ass then what you would’ve did he just laughed it off and said come on dis G you talking about. G a.k.a. Gudda was a husy guy who was really cocky he stood about 5”7 and he was a very funny cat. When they got onto the train G was talking about all dis ducking and dodging got me real hungry. Cheese said we gone grab something when we get back out west but G said he wanted to get something now and he was suggesting that everyone get off on 35th and Cheese was just saying that he could wait but he wasn’t going to. When the train pulled up to 35th Dee told him that they weren’t going to get off with him and he know dis Brick Squad territory and he said he didn’t give a Fuck who’s shit this is . When the train stopped G got off and they were about to follow but they stayed on. When they reached clark and lake they tried to call his phone but he had cut it off so they figured he was upset so they jus ignored it . When they made it to the Ave. they tried callin him again and again so they just sat back and chilled for a few hours and still no call so they decided to go by G’s. While they were walking up the block they we just talking like man joe I wonder what happened with G” and why he never hit that line back.. As they were walking down the ave. they ran into Broomfield by sams and he was telling them that dem peoples was out there on harding so be cool and don’t be too hott. When they got back on harding they saw a detective’s car sitting out front of G’s house and the door was open Dee immediately ran in and Cheese right behind him when they got in they saw G’s mother brother, and sister crying as Detectives showed his mother a picture asking was this her son Gregory Hines and she just fell to the floor as she looked at the picture. Cheese asked the police what happened with G and they told them that he was shot on the city’s southside right off of 35th street by someone in an all black Altima. When the police asked them if they knew anyone who drove this type of vehicle or anyone that might want to hurt Greg they replied no. Cheese looked at Dee as if this was something they had to happen because they knew exactly who had done it. After they left their Cheese went to grab his gun and he also have gave Dee one and they hopped back on the train heading back towards the Brick Squad’s kick it spot. They made a plan to get off at 35th at first but then Cheese saw a way they could get the crew without even being touched or seen and that was 41st street stop it was located right behind their trap house. When they finally made it to the stop they were very paranoid by the time the doors opened on 41st. They could see the trap house and the black Altima that the police claim that they were on top of yeah right. When they approached the house they made sure no one saw them as they ran into the trap. When they ran in they saw Maul and some bussa at the table counting money and they were shocked to see what happen and Maul even had on the chain G was wearing earlier. He already knew why they were there and he told them they didn’t know what they were getting themselves into and if they touched him or his baby mama then it would be Hell. He went on to say that he didn’t care 2 shits about Young Money and he would never honor our group. Dee responded to him real niggas fucked with G and I don give a fuck who don’t. Then he blew his baby mama’s head clean off and Cheese asked him how did he feel after that and then shot him 2 but he shot Maul in the spine and they took off running out the back door all you heard was sirens everywhere and they made it back to the green line station safely as Maul lay there suffering never being able to walk again and his first born killed and baby mama and now he has to live with the same pain and nobody wins in this battle for Big “G”
Long Live Gudda
Janies Self Awareness
By:Latisha Strong
she may be different from others, the more she talks with others the more she finds out abouts
herself from communicating about the things they have in common. It is important to Janie because
she can find many new opportunities, a better life and a great change.Janie's appearance for new
opportunities can be a lot different from a lot of people around her and it can be a good thing because
she can find some new for herself and Janie can new to someone else. It can be a new change in her
life because she can bring something new to the table for a new life. Finding new friends and starting
a new life in a different area can help you be a better person. When you talk with others you can learn
more about yourself in good and bad ways. You and other people may have a lot in common.—Shakira Harris
Speak up America Needs You
It is important to all the world that Janie go out and find people because she brought greatness and happiness to the people; Janie self awareness depends on her increase awareness of others because the more she learned and saw about others the more she learned and wanted to learn about herself. Janie also found out how different she was from others.
Janie was no longer being controlled and she no longer had someone living her life for her, she was finally independent and got herself together. Janie went on a journey to find the horizon. After her findings Janie became more active, happier, and friendlier, she also expressed herself more and no longer wore a scarf she let her hair down and became a new person. The people there had respect for Janie and were proud of her.
--Dekeira McGee
The importance of the horizon represents new opportunities, for Janie as well as her men who brought new opportunities; the significance of the final sentence shows that she had a lot of opportunities in her relationships, but it was all crushed after a while. The horizon represented new opportunities. For example when her nanny died she said she hated nanny because she didn’t want to marry Logan Killicks. But when nanny died she started marrying people that she wanted to marry. When Janie got married to Logan Killicks the opportunity that he brought to the table was to take care of her and make sure that she doesn’t want for nothing else, by taking care of her. But Janie felt like she was being pushed around because Logan would make her do hard labor. Janie’s second husband Joe Starks told her that she would never have to do no work again for the rest of her life, because he had a goal set out for their marriage. But as their married life went on she realized that Jody only wanted her for her beauty, and how much attention that would bring him to make him popular. Janie’s third husband Teacake was only about love with her. Also he made sure that it wasn’t about money or anything with their marriage and that he would always love her. But as things were going good it started to go bad because Teacake he caught rabbis’ from a rabid dog and he started to go insane. So Janie had shot him because he was about to kill her. Things were crushed after awhile with Janie because every time she was able to get a new opportunity or the opportunity was giving to her it always went bad. So she was never able to keep those opportunities.—Theo Livingston
Now that Joe Starks is gone Janie finally realizes that it is important for her to show everyone who she really is deep inside, which builds up her self esteem. Janie’s self awareness depend on her increased awareness of others, for example the more she gets to know someone, the more she is finding stuff about herself. So when Joe Starks past away, Janie was determining to open up to everyone, showing her hair, letting it down and give that inner beauty of her that Joe Starks Stop her from doing because she was a mayor’s wife and she should look different, from the other women in the town.

The Eyes Were Watching God
Game Review
The following games are the most popular games among teens and around uplift.
Madden 2010, NCAA Football 2010, NBA 2k10 and NBA live 10.
First of all, if you have never played a madden game in your life; you need to get one. The graphics are way better than years past and the game deserves at least a solid 9. There are just so many major improvements than the years past. The difficulty gameplay and realism makes this one, just a few of the best game to ever come out. Fitzgerald and Polamalu make the game way better. The dynasty mode is way better than ever. You just have to pick up a copy of Madden 2010 before it too late. Now to NCAA Football 2010, the game is scary, it way advanced than ever. The hit stick is like the one in madden and it like a combination of fast pace game with the toughness of madden defense and techniques. The only bad part is that the players have no names and you have to auto name the roster. The playbooks are unbelievable; you have Alabama running the wildcat with mark Ingram and Boise state with the statue of liberty play and Oregon running their offense with Masoli and the defense stepping up and shutting opponents down. The road to glory mode is so cool, having the chance to start as a high senior to when you get admitted into a national powerhouse to winning the heisman and playing for the championship; also having the opportunity to opt out of the NFL draft and becoming the coach. The dynasty mode is astonishing, taking a weak team like Stanford or Oregon State to national powerhouse. NBA 2K10 is an excellent basketball game that does many things very, very well. Kobe is on the cover, he is the best player in the NBA right now and always in competition for a championship. The biggest addition to this year's game is easily its best feature: My Player lets you create yourself then puts you on the road to becoming an NBA star. You start off in the summer league, continue on to training camp, and then take a trip to the NBA's development league, where you must prove that you're ready for the big time; it's a long, but ultimately satisfying, grind. My Player mode is an excellent addition, but it's not without its flaws. Your player improves gradually. And the game penalizes you for seemingly insignificant things, like when your opponent scores on a fast break, but you don't hustle down the court fast enough, or for being out of position. During a regular season game, the announcers will reference current statistics and even what happened in previous meetings between two teams, a feature that also extends to My Player. The graphics make the players look realer than ever and the gameplay, environment and the updates make this one of the best basketball games ever. NBA Live 10 has Dynamic DNA seasons are a great addition to the franchise, but NBA Live is not quite a championship contender. The best part of NBA Live 10 is play along with the current NBA season from the comfort of your living room. Lives’ Dynamic DNA makes the players play the way they play in real life. The game is almost like NCAA Basketball; you run the play from your team playbook. It feels like you are playing with a fake ball. Despite a few faults, NBA Live 10 is a fun game and a strong addition to the franchise.

Why is there violence in the world now?
Why is so many people pissed?
The hate needs to die down.
Why do people gang bang?
Kids steady dying.
Why people do people say, “I got to go get that thang”?
People are always lying.
Some things just need to be dead and gone.
Why are so many people dead?
Why does things we do go so wrong.
Because they was making that bread?
We need to become as one.
So let the job be done.
Damonica Terrell interview
Well I have my own “They say practice makes you perfect but then they say nobody is perfect”
When did you fall in love with basketball?
I love basketball. I knew I loved basketball when I was seven, because I had a thing for Sheryl swoops. She splayed for the comets. My dad bought me her jersey, but it had her name on the back.
Why do you love basketball?
I love basketball because it teaches life lessons and it makes you stronger, not just on the court and in life lesson. It also teaches you how to make smart decisions because when you’re on the court you need to weather you’re going all the to the basket or if you’re going to pass the ball.
What was you’re best game this year?
My best game this year was when I had 21 points and six assist while playing against Senn and I was in the news paper.
What’s the best advice you would give any young girl basketball player?
The advice I would give to any younger girl basketball player would be kind of hard for me because I not really to the point I need to be but I would say to have a lot of confidence and even if you cant do something just keep telling you’re self that you can.

YOU SHOULD FALL IN LOVE
LOVE IS EVERYWHERE IN THE WORLD. YOU MIGHT NOT BE IN LOVE WITH ANOTHER PERSON, BUT YOU DO LOVE SOMETHING IN THIS WORLD. YOU LOVE YOUR PARENTS, YOUR PET, YOURSELF, YOUR FAMILY, AND ANYTHING ELSE YOU LOVE AND CARE ABOUT. WHEN PEOPLE FALL IN LOVE, THEY FEEL THAT THE OTHER PERSON IS THEIR SOULMATE OR THAT GOD PUT THEM ON EARTH JUST FOR THEM. WHEN FEMALES GET THEIR HEART BROKEN OR CHEATED ON, THEY BECOME DEPRESSED, LONELY, AND THEY FEEL LIKE IT WAS THEIR FAULT THAT THEIR RELATIONSHIP DIDN’T WORK OUT. WHEN MALES GET THEIR HEART BROKEN, THEY EITHER FEEL THE SAME WAY THE FEMALES DO, OR THEY FORGET ABOUT IT AND GET A NEW GIRL. PEOPLE GET INTO RELATIONSHIPS FOR A SENSE THAT THEY ARE LOVED, WANTED, AND NEEDED. OTHER PEOPLE JUST WANT TO GET A SEXY FEMALE, OR A SEXY MALE, SO THAT THEY CAN SHOW THEM OFF TO THEIR FRIENDS AND PROUDLY SAY THAT THEY GOT A SEXY PERSON. WHAT THESE PEOPLE EITHER DON’T KNOW, OR DON’T CARE, IS THAT PEOPLE WHO WEREN’T BLESSED WITH GOOD LOOKS, LOOK UP TO THEM AS THEIR HEROES. THEY BELIEVE THAT SINCE UGLY PEOPLE COULD GET BUETIFUL PEOPLE, THEN IN THEIR MINDS, THEY COULD GET ANY PERSON THEY WANT IF THEY JUST BE THEMSELVES AND PUT THEIR MINDS INTO IT.

Short Story
It depressed her the way her mother sat in the light of the computer all day. Why was her sister so embarrassing? I hated my sister she was always the one in the light. Me and my twin Tina we were totally different people. By the way my name is Tiara. She was the popular girl in school. While I was her shadow she thought that she was all that but everyone talked about her behind her back. The rumors that were going around the school about my sister were shameful. I didn’t believe them I use to stick up for her all the time until I saw the proof. James Parkins was one on the cool kids in school he was having a party. All of the cool kids were going including my sister. I knew she was going to drag me along because every party she went to she got messed and I would have to drive her home. At the party there were a lot of drugs and drinks. They had every drug and drink you can think of. My sister was trying everyone. I left because I couldn’t look at her any more so I left. When I left she did some thing with the football team and they taped it. It was all over the school. My mother had to transfer her out of the school. I stayed I didn’t really care what they was saying because I am not the other twin.

Lover is...
Love is when you feel the need for happiness in your life. Love is when you commit yourself to something or someone in the deepest manner. Love is when you cannot control your heart over a person or a thing. When you are in love with someone, you feel the need for them all the time when you are sad, confused, or lonely. When you are in love, you can never imagine a better future with someone else. Love is a great feeling that can only end with sadness. Love is something deep that is hard to get out of.

All these years they think we are so trickable
but really they're just despicable
taken the men of islam from their pillars
knowing they're the real serial killers
Making forners work these petty jobs to make their
lives look like a filler
They've been hurting our community
and breaking our unity
until they gained a certain point of immunity
All the brothas and sistas out there had their preperation

how about we enslave your people and mislead em
And show them how it feels to have no freedom

So what you did was rape out women and turned our babies into triscuits

what kind of Gods eyes of Hurstons characters watching???
Hurstons husbands were the God who were watching her. The names of her Gods are Joe S.,and Tea C. Each husband she had they marriage ended an a sad way.Joe had die by having kidney problems. Tea C. pass way when Janie shot him. She love them very much. Now they are in the Heavens with God watching over her.
She felt the nature of love because she love each one of her husbands. Even though Logan didnt die she still loved him to. She feel the nature of the Gods because even though they are not here they still love her and guiding her through her life.
She started question God wondering why is this happening to her. she felt like it was all her felt because of there death and why Logan left her. She started to feel bad about her felt and couldnt put the pieces together on why things happen the way they did.

janie's life
The horizon reprsents the far-off mystery of the natural world with which she longed to connect to.the horizon was like the opportunities in janies life because she was aware of them, but every time she tried to get them there was something standing in her way. janie could of been very successful in life if she would of been more independent, she could have been known for more than just being someones wife. just like the horizon it was hard for janie to reconize the opportunities she had, and when she did start to see them, it seemed too, late.
Janie and each of her men widened her horizon because each relationship made her a better person. she learned something from every relationship, they showed her the raelity of how life really was. her relationship made her a stronger women, she learned how to stand on her own.
Through janies whole life, she never really got to make decisions for herself. she didnt pick her first husband, because her grandma made her marry someone who she thought was best for janie. she didnt get to pursue anything she wanted to do, because her husbands had her doing what they felt women should be doing. she always had to clean up around the house, work in a store, or cook. if janie would of been able to control her own life, she could of been a more happier person, and she wouldnt of aged like she did.
The god of hurstons eyes
The god was mean because he took tea cake, the love of janies life away from her. that god didnt want janie and tea cake to be together becase god gave logan her 1st husband and he died and then joey her 2nd husband and he died to so that explains that she cant handle being a good wife. Thats the reson god is mean to janie.
Thats why janie question god why did she took the love of her life away from her when she was living happy with tea cake ....
janie finding herself
Eyes Were Watching God
She later meets tea cake. Amongst the crowd of future potential condidates for her love, he's the only one who seems to respect her and does not want to trap her her from herself and her brain. He shares her ambitions, and she enjoys his company. He even offers to teach her chess, which was something no one had offered to her because of being a woman. She knew that she could be independent and still be in love. They travel to southern Florida and eventually reach the everglades. There, they wed and join a group of people living along the shores. With their bondages, he yet ties her down, and is even reduced to beating her. They later reconcile and he still allows her to be a consultant of the conditions in which they are living in.
Unlike her first two spouses, and the cluttered town they occupied whislt with them; each town contributed to each others gossip. Something that didn't let her be dependand of herself. By the end of the book, she persues her jurney back to Eatonville more independant than ever. Each of the towns have their number of tradiotial black cultures. When Janie is born into her grandmothers custody, they're no black people inspired to live their lives customarily (according to their norms) because of sharing their community with other white people in West Florida. Here, Janie's independence is very limited, even badly influenced by her grandmother who pushed Janie to marry someone she isn't in love with. By the end she's alone and allowed to do whichever pleases her, whilst travelting through Florida.

Adherence So Special As This One{There Eyes Are Watching God
to the people in the community because people will
treat you well when you fit in, and when you dont fit in
you get treated badly.
It is important to janie because she deals joe
mess so she could be with him and if she dont she will
get treated bad. When janie was in the store she was
talking to someone on the porch and joe seen her he was yelling
at her demanding her to work and she did as she was told.
Also when Joe told Janie to tie up her hair because
he didnt want other men looking at her. Joe was inscure about him self
because he was getting old and he wanted Janie to get old with
him. Thats why it was so important to Janie because she wanted to get
treated well.

From generations to generations we have been taught ways to live our life, but when we break those traditions we get treated differently in our communities. Like in the book The Eyes Are Watching God the character Janie got treated differently after her Nanny died. When Janie was living with her grandmother raised her to be respectful, grateful and helpful and that’s how her community viewed her. But when her Nanny passed she started to live her own life. Like when Janie’s second husband Joe Starks died in 9 months later she started falling for another man named Tea Cake. People thought she should wait longer before getting in another relationship. People also thought she was happy that Joe died because of the way she was behaving. So in her community the town’s people would talk about her, but Janie didn’t care what the people thought of her; she was living her life. My grandmother was raised to do your homework before watching television, but I do the opposite I watch television and listen to music while doing my homework. My grandmother point of view is that im not learning anything. She thinks her way is better. But just because my way is differently doesn’t mean it’s the wrong way.

The kind of god Hurston’s character are watching is the god of love whom they have an unstable relationship with; Janie’s husband have doubts about god because at the end is bad. And Janie is the god of love because she wants to love to have that feeling of love to the special someone. The reason the relationship with love is unstable is because Janie relationship start off good and then end up bad. Take for example in the beginning off the story she dated a old man call Logan. She wasn’t happy because of her grandmother. Her grandmother told her to date Logan because he had money and acres of land But Janie wanted love. Her grandmothers said forget about love and to date a man for his money. Janie said she love her second husband Jody because everything was going good but the more she fell in love the more her husband disrespected her. She stuck with her husband until he died, but the love she had was a disrespectful love. They behaved like love birds at first, and then at the end of their relationship they exchanged hurtful words. Then Janie loved her last husband teacake at first sight because of his looks; he loved her too. Janie’s relationship was good at first, then when she fell deeper in love they was get bad. It was good because Janie and teacake was playing games and teacake taught Janie how to shoot and play checkers. Then at the end he starts acting kind of crazy. He kept touching her hair and stealing her money, but she was still in love. So when teacake got attacked by a dog and got rabies, she loved him so much she had to kill him. Janie husbands question the god of love because they use her for her looks and money.
