Do you believe in the death penalty? Why or why not?

In a way i believe and then again i dont. the reason why i do believe in the death penalty is because i feel if a person can take another person life without any problem it wouldnt be cruel to take his/her life. I also dont believe in the death penalty because thats kind of cruel against mankind even though they took someone life and a life is something you dont get back. so i think it is a 50/50 answer.
