Dear Durk,

Your music goes way too hard on everything. I bump to your music everyday when i get home from school. Just recently i seen you at the Open mike by cottage grove. Dear Oprah,

I read the speech you made when you won that award, I was truly inspired by the impact and the meaningfulness the speech. I watched the video and dissected the speech in class. I saw how the people in the awards were smiling and listening to you, they truly were listening and seemed so motivated by your words. It was a simple speech but still a really deep and thoughtful speech, that I don't think a lot of people can pull it out but you. After that speech, I think women got even more confident in sharing their stories.

Steven Seagal

Dear Steven Seagal,
Why have you become so irrelevant in recent years? You used to be one of the biggest actors in Hollywood, but now no one cares about you. I hope you get your career back on track. I don't want you to be a forgotten, washed up Hollywood actor. I wish you the best of luck.
Sincerely, Lisa.

Responding to someone's post- Daisy C

I think my role would have to be my mom as well. She has of course been with me since I was born so we are pretty tight. My mother is a such a strong, loving outgoing person. My mother is my hero. I may not know everything that she has been though but I know what we have been though and I admire her for that. My mom has always been there for me whether its breakups or if I need friendship advice. She wants to me strive in life and i know that when we have our arguments that she does mean well. My mom makes me want to do better for myself and others. When something is hard for me to get though, I think about my mom and what she gone though to get me where I am today, that I can do what I got to do.

A person that gives me strength and hope in the future would be my mom. The reason my mom gives me strength and hope is because she constantly makes sure i’m doing what i’m doing in order to suceed. Also, my dad because he motivates me and gives me confidence.
No matter how hard my mom is on me, I know she means well- although, it can be very irritating and annoying. My dad helps my mom out a lot with money, although my mom mostly pays for all of my neccessities. I appreciate both of my parents alot, especially since some kids, teens and just people in general don’t even have 1 parent in their life.
My parents are seperated and still manage to co-parent and make everything work, which is a very big and hard responsibility for each of them individually. I genuinely appreciate my parents and my life very much even though I may not always show it. I hope that I can suceed, give back and make my parents happy while I still can. I honestly owe it to them for everything i’ve put them through.

I also hope that one day, i’m so successful that I can give back to not just my parents, but also, my family and friends. In my family nobody went to college for all four years, so I know that me succeeding and becoming what all my family didn’t would make them all very proud. I hope that I can own the businesses I want and be a big boss with my own money so I don’t gotta depend on nobody, not my family, not my friends and desinitely not no lame guy. No matter how much I disagree, have attitude and argue with my parents, I love them to the fullestand couldn’t ask for anyone better.

Angel Cahue Response

There has been a time people would expect me to fail. That would be when I'm at school. People would always tell me like how would i get a 100 on a test or something like that. They would always expected me to to be failing all my classes and if i had a A they would be shocked. If i ever had a homework assignments done, they would also not believe me and tell me i didn't do it. Another thing would be that i would always be expected to be not doing good in sports. id always be told that i cant play any sports at all. That would be a big one. Even my own family would tell me that i wasn't good at it and that I'm never going to be good. Another would be that people never see me being anything in life. People expect my future to be horrible and not gonna be anything when I'm older.

I remember during school we would play basketball, soccer, volleyball softball and kickball. Most of the time I chosen to be captain and had to pick my group of guys. Now as many would, they will get the guys that give them the highest chance of winning. My picks were chosen differently  would pick the guys that always got past over  because we get a chance to play the game. I mean that's the point though isn't it to have fun but were so caught up in winning. Even my friends would call me out on it but to me it made it more fun and it could have even raised the intensity in some sports.
Another thing a lot of people still throw me under the bus for is and its eating mint chocolate chip ice cream. That flavor has been my favorite flavor for as long as I could remember. My family, friend, and peers tell me I might as well freeze tooth paste and eat it because that's what it taste like to them. They are all hating that they cant enjoy this flavor the way I do.
Now I've also been told that I'm short and wont be able to enjoy the game I love playing most. A lot of people assume that because I'm short I'm not good enough. Being only 5'7 I can understand it is somewhat short compared to other ball players but height don't define game its about heart. This is my sport and always will be playing it since I was about 9 years old. I learned to adapt to playing from Burbank to Marquette park area. The game is always in you as long as you have heart and love for the game nothing else matters.

A person who gives me strength at anytime of life; it being hard, good, or even bad times would be my mom. She is always there for me when I need her she is a true best friend who will always have the best intrest for me and give the best advise she could give. She motivates me to go further than she dud in life. Every time she tells me about her past I hear about how amazingly strong she has been, how much she had to go through to be strong. She inspires me to be tough, to stick up for myself, and to be forgiving. She gives me strength by telling to do my best in school everyday and to be the best  person I can be. She has really been someone who I can say has been there for me through it all and I really do appreciate that. She has taught me to care about others because I do not know what they are going through so I must be nice obviously not to people that i do not like or the ones who are mean to me. She has taught me to be smart by not giving everyone my heart, just because they say they wont hurt you does not mean they wont do it. I have to know when someone really does and when they just want to hurt me. She has made me emotionally strong by telling me to cry it all out because keeping it all locked in will only hurt me at the end of the day. She has been through so much in every way on her life that she makes me feel like I can get through things in my life because someone else has been through it and moved on.

A Day of a Student - Daisy C

I first start off my day by waking up around 6:00 am or a little early. I get greeted by my cat named Freddy. I usually play with him for a few minutes in bed before I get up to go feed both my cats. Then I will go upstairs use the bathroom and brush my teeth, then I walk back downstairs to get my makeup and if i feel like curling or straightening my hair that day i will bring that along. After I am done with that i go and pick out a outfit that I feel like wearing that day. If I have time i will make myself some cereal and chill on my phone while getting my shoes on, lots of the time though I am talking with my family. When it is around like 6:50 am I start getting on my coat and saying goodbye to everyone. I walk to school and that usually takes me 10 minutes. I sometimes meet my friend in the school bathroom then we scan in and go throughout the school day. After school sometimes I will have and that ends at 5:45 pm. If I don't have night school I will either go hang out with some friends or I go home. At home i will relax and eat for a bit. I will help my younger sister with any homework that she needs help with. After that i usually have to do chores and after that is dinner. After dinner I chill with my family and then i help my mom put my siblings to bed and the me and my mom chill and talk for a bit. After that it can be between like 10-11pm and I start to get ready for bed. I will take a shower, (if not I will in the morning) brush my teeth and wash my face. Sometimes my ears hurt so I take out my ear rings and out them in the morning or at school. After that I might chill with my mom for a bit longer or I will lay down and chill on my phone for a little longer and then go to bed.

Evan Tavares - Superman and me Essay

There has been a time where someone has expected me to fail. That time was when i was doing the pacer test, some guy that i didn’t even know told me that I was probably not even going to make it 30 laps, i just laughed and shrugged it off and said “whatever”. During the time period before the test and after he said that, I thought ‘Why would he say such a mean thing?’ But then the time comes for the test, and we start to run, it comes to the 30th lap and i feel fine and not tired at all. Then it gets to lap 50 and i was feeling fine and not that tired. After that it gets to lap 85, and i'm not that tired but my legs start to hurt a little bit but I still push it and try to get to 100. I try to get to 100 because you already know that everyone keeps it 100. When it gets to lap 100 i stop because my legs really hurt and im pretty tired. I already know i passed the guy completely, by like 40 laps he got like 50-60 something laps. So when i was expected to fail i didn't give in, and did not fail, but actually beat that guy, and i felt like i won in my head even though i did not surpass everyone, I felt like nothing stopped me.

But now, here is a story of when i did fail. This was basically last semester, and the reason why i am in night school. During the 2nd Quarter, I didn't like school at all and i wanted to give up on school, and that's what I proceeded to do. Almost half my teachers told me that i was going to fail if i didn't do anything. I wasn’t trying at all, and i was pretty good at school though, at school i would participate and know what is going on. I never did the homework though so that is the main reason as why i failed. I had a lot of detentions because i did not do my homework and i barely even went to detention too. I never wanted to be “that” person but i didn't want to do my homework because i was overwhelmed. I think part of the reason was because during the beginning of the school year i was never recognized for anything that i did good at, and at the time of the beginning i was very good at school and actually tried. I was barely stay after school and never get detentions. That's why I transferred, i felt that the school wasn't for me and i would never want to go back.

Soledad Garcia - Who gives me strength and hope for my future(300 word response)?

Someone that gives me hope and strength for my future is my mom and dad. The reason I've chosen my parents is because they've always been there for my brother and I. They've always told us to do the right thing and they've provided us with things we need even if we can't realy afford it. they put us first and despite their differences, they both would do anything for my brother and I. Through both of their mistakes, they teach me what not to do. They are who I look up to.

My mom makes me hopeful and strong for my future, because academically she provides me with support. She helps keep me on track. She also helps me with things I'm going through outside of school. She helps me with my relationships and big decisions. She helps me with things I can't really talk to my dad about, like if I'm having an argument with my boyfriend, she's the first person I go to. My mom and I tend to bump heads sometimes, but I can still go to her when it comes to certain things. There are time where I can't talk to her about so I go to my dad for advice.

My dad makes me hopeful and strong for my future, because extra-curricular wise, he provides me with support, tools and materials. He helps me with music I'm struggling to learn on guitar. When I need moral advice or if I need help calming down when my mom and I get into arguments, he is the first person I call. I'm really close with my dad, but at times he can be really annoying and that's when i go to my mom for advice. My dad supports my dream of being a musician. He has went as far as to get me my own instruments. He has gotten me a keyboard piano, two guitars, two guitars and a concert sized ukulele. I remember a time when I was younger, he had recently been laid off of a job so he wasn't working. My birthday came and he woke me up to a brand new tablet. He had been doing side-jobs to be able to get me something nice. That proves how far he would go to get my brother and I something nice. He's tried helping me get to my dream high school but my mom stopped him.

In conclusion, my parents will always be my biggest supporters, no matter the circumstances. They both know what it's like to not have a stable support system so they made sure my brother and I both have a proper support system. I know I can go to them for anything.

Lawrence Garcia - 300 Word Response

What gives me strength to push forward is seeing how hard everyone else around me is working, and so by seeing them work,it makes me want to work harder than them. I don't know why it pushes me to want to work harder than them, it just does. I can do whatever I want if I put my all into it.
One person that I can definitely say is pushing me to become a better person is my uncle Chris. He's always on my ass about college programs and wanting me to go to dual credit courses at Daley College. If it weren't for him pushing me as hard as he is, I wouldn't know what I would want to do in college. It's because of him that I started thinking about college early on in my high school years.
An activity that I enjoy doing is video games, and I know video games don't usually help people with life choices, but I've become a much more patient person because of them. I've also learned from video games that steady work over a long period of time can have a huge effect in the future. In the middle of sophomore year of high school, I started doing all of my homework because I finally realized the effect it had on my overall grade. The homework then was so easy to, I just thought of it as a waste of time. But once I started doing it, I started raising my grade steadily, and finished my sophomore year with all A's and B's.
Another huge influence on me is my mom. My mom can do whatever she wants if she puts her mind to it. My mom taught me the importance of working hard educationally so that I'm not a bum when I get older. When my mom was pregnant with me and my sister, she was still in college, and she knew that she couldn't take off time because she was almost done with it. She worked hard to reach her goal, and I learned a lot from her actions. What I also learned from my mom was making sacrifices. When my mom was pregnant, she had to stay home and not hang out with her friends or go out, and that taught me that I need to work on what's important now so that I can enjoy life later on.
The last person that influenced me was my dad. He taught me the importance of labor work, and how getting a job now can help me getting a job later on when I'm older. My dad also taught me how to treat my family and my elders. I treat everyone I meet with respect because that was the way I grew up, with my dad showing everyone he knew respect. All of these people and their actions formed me into the person I am today, and I wont let their hard work to make me into a good person go to waste by not getting an education and good job.

I think the one thing I'll miss is the people I went go to school with. I know once high school ends I won't see most of these people. Most are going to different colleges or military service or just working from there. So I think the people I got used to I will miss

The one thing I'll miss about high school is seeing all my friends in one place. Walking the halls and just saying hi to everyone you know. - Joseph Z

Bell Ringer - Jaqui

I'll probably miss how close it is to home. I've lived in Chicago for 14 years and I'm going to be sad to say goodbye to it. I'll miss my teachers (probably not my friends) for teaching me some cool life lessons.
one thing i'll probably miss about school is nothing

Bellringer

I'm going to miss the opportunities and the community. Yeah, I know I've babbled about how I don't particularly care about the whole demeanor of a lot of people here, the way they carry themselves through life, but I still would have like to have been more connected with people here. Maybe it's my fault for making friends with seniors in pretty much all 4 years. Since everybody I knew moved away, I was kind of up a creek without a paddle, since I had no social ability at the time. I can hold a conversation now, but I have so many things I have to focus on that I can't do much else.

It would have been nice to get to know my teachers better too. I feel like I'm going to forget everyone after a few years, and I find that idea a little disappointing.

The one thing I will miss about high school is the fun i had in all these 4 years. I will never ever forget the new things i learned from here. These were the best four years of my life YET. More coming soon...

Gerardo Hernandez One thing I'll miss is winfreys class. Your a cool ass teacher Winfrey real talk. Ill miss you saying "uptown" and "lets get to working people"

There isn't anything I'm going to miss about this school. I'm actually excited to leave. The only thing I'll maybe even miss is some of my boys. But hopefully I'll still stay in touch with them. Other then that there isn't anything to miss.

5/31/18 Samantha Arroyo The number one thing I thing I'll miss about high school would be the environment . College you don't have time to joke Around or slack off . You can't miss days or walk around. I don't think I'll miss the people i don't care about them, but I'll miss not having to be exactly responsible .
I'm going to miss basically being able to see you're friends before everyone goes on with there own paths

05/22/18 Samantha Arroyo Prom was such a good experience . I enjoyed it and it was fun. At first I didn't think it would end up good . I took my boyfriend and I thought we were going to end up fighting but instead it was such a good night I loved it and I would go back and do it all over again. It was good vibes only and everyone was just enjoying the time together. I was having to much fun to take many pictures to be honest
The #1 thing I'll miss about high school is coming to high school .

One thing I will miss about high school is watching fights go down every period.

It's been a long day. It's hot as balls outside today. Winfrey thinks it's nice out. But he's in jean's so once he gets outside he'll realize it's hot as balls himself. I like 8th cool people. I'll kinda miss this school. Not the school itself but the people I've had classes.

Bell Ringer - Jaqui

The end is near. Thank god. Jeez, I'm so excited to graduate. I don't really wanna go to my graduation, I just want my diploma, but my mom wants to see me in my cap and gown and all that good stuff. It's hot today, I don't wanna step out of the building, but I'll do it to hang out with my boyfriend. We can watch shitty movies and make good food.

YOOO im sick of school. i am tired of going to this lame ass school. I am a senior im done w this shit.
laters going to be lit! going to the beach later and it's going to be like 90 degrees today it's definitely the move. I'm hanging out with my friend today and we're going to be downtown for a while. hitting up spots enjoying the day. then after she wants to leave we'll split at the train and I'll go meet up with my friends at the beach and we're going to get T'D!!!!

Winfrey real talk your a real ass teacher, u cool as hell, when we playing basketball so I can bust your ass. I just want to graduate and not come to school anymore and start making that money.

Another bellringer.

I have too much homework to do. I have been doing homework and staying up until 2:00 am getting everything done for the last two weeks. Every day, it's "oh, can you help me figure out this?" or "oh, here's this assignment to fill up the dead time" or "Here's yet another essay to write because it's the last week and screw you." I hate it. I know that this is the final push and all, but I really could use some respite. I have to seriously consider if I can even spare two hours of an entire 3 day weekend to enjoy myself. 2 HOURS out of 3 days. 2 out of 72 hours is what I have to not be working. At the least I'll be able to sleep, maybe.
I can't even promise myself that at this point, the work just keeps on coming more and more and more and more.
Damn dude this year flew by so quickly. Just two more weeks and we're done and gone . The memories every single student has in this building is an life lesson or just cherished moment to them. Like I remember how I walked in the main entrance as a freshman and BAM! We just need two more weeks and some of us won't need to be around here .

Umang Prajapati

I just registered for my college classes. I am kind of scared, excited, nervous, happy, dont really know how i m feeling. But i am happy about one thing that i m graduating high school being 16 years old. I know it is surprising.

I'm excited that we're having a cake party in Winfrey's class. Winfrey has always been the best teacher despite the fact that he gives us a lot of work. The lesson we're currently learning about is very interesting. I like learning about dark things! -Horace

Bell Ringer - Jaqui

I have a doctor's appointment today, so I can't see my boyfriend until tomorrow. I'm bummed out. At least I don't work tomorrow, so we can spend the entire day after school together. Also, I'm dragging him with me to Starved Rock for the weekend, so that'll be super fun. I don't know what to wear though. Huh, decisions decisions.
But you want me to cling to you
And I ain't asking you to change
Cause I know I can't jingle you
I got my ways...
And you have your days...
And we gave it our best shot
But I just got grazed
I'm sorry-Joseph z
