Fort Dearborn was built in 1803, when the U.S. government gave white men permission to kick the Native American out of their land. It was in March 9, 1803 when the U.S. decided to put a Fort Dearborn in honor of the Secretary of was Henry Dearborn. It was the Indians there at that time, which they were forced to move. The Indians were not pleased by getting kick out. In August 15, 1812 the Indians destroyed the fort and the only thing that was still left of the first fort was bricks and pieces. In August 1816 the second fort was rebuilt under the supervision of Captain Hezekiah Bradley and all the waste of the old fort was removed from the site. The Native Americans was not please and a Native Chief Black Hawk was not settle still they started war which was called the Black Hawk War.
The Native Americans brought a great war by fighting the whites to get their land back, that their father laid their graves. Then Indians were not afraid of the whites but they knew that it wasn’t going to take a tribe to kill the whites. The Indians had brought to tribes together which were Sauk & Fox tribes and the Indians attacked the whites on August 15, 1812. That was not enough for the Indians so in 1832 Chief Black Hawk gathered an army and return to the land he was born to, but when the chief return he didn’t just bring a tribes he brought an army of 760 Sauk and Fox Indians to get their land back. The Indians burned Fort because they felt that it wasn’t fair that their father land was taken away from them. Back in 1804 a man named John Knize was settle in the region of Chicago and brought out property from jean Lalme Kinze and stated “it was wrong to be treated like that “ John helped the Indians fight the white’s .Today’s law you couldn’t come into someone’s possession and take it without pay. I want to know why the settler’s back then filled that was right. The U.S. government had no right to force the Natives Americans to leave their land. The U.S. government was wrong and had no right to force the Native Americans to leave their land. In 1831 the U.S. government had forced the Sauk and Fox tribes of the land that is now Chicago to the other side of the Mississippi river in Iowa the Sauk and Fox tribes move immediately but a group Natives fought back by chief Black Hawk, because he refused to move Illinois soldiers helped the whites fight in the war which was named the Black Hawk war and kick the natives out. Troops arrived in the area on August 17 and began building shelters and a stockade and they help the U.S. government take the Natives out. Lieutenant Swearingen was ordered to proceed with the company of Captain John Whistler to build a Fort on the Chicago River and you know what that means it was times for the Natives to go. A bunch of white men stated “we the white men kick the Natives out and their fighting to get their land back” That was the wrong thing to do because in today’s government of the U.S. the only way they can take your possession if you don’t pay the money due to the thing you own. I want to know and I’m sure others is Why the government back then was so different than today’s? The Native Americans were the first to find the wonderful of Chicago which means “stinky onions”. Chicago began with nothing but empty wilderness and open prairie. It first appeared on the maps as a region in 1684 as Chekagon but it was the Indians to help it form into the crops of the land. Jacques Marquette and Louis Jollet explored the region of that land but never stop to search the land. Although many Indians were all over the west coast they were all over the Midwest also they founded Chicago. John DuSable and Chief Black Hawk were the two people that founded Chicago. John DuSable was a Black pioneer and if you know anything about Indians Who would know a Chief of an Indians tribe. The Indians felt that their rights were not respected and they said, “We saw no sympathy being for us, for our love of home no respect paid to the graves of our father’s and their land” .That’s right because if I found something or a product I wouldn’t want someone to take my land. The Native Americans were the first to settle in Chicago; Therefore the United States government had no place to move them off their land they were born into. It was a great push for the Native Americans to fight and to stand up for their father’s land.
